So as you all know by now, I'm in my school magazine(the bubble(don't ask, I have no clue XDD)), and a while ago I (somehow) convinced Ben(the guy who edits the bubble) to let me have an interview with Adam Katz, the creator of inanimate insanity. It wasn't the big old video chat interview that I wanted, it was literally all done through emails, but it was still the best interview of my life, and it finally got uploaded to the bubbles website. As The Bubble's official reporter on the wackier reaches of cyberspace, she caught up with its creator, Adam Katz. Here's what he had to say. How would you explain Inanimate Insanity to someone who has never heard of it before?
I had to have that question because let's face it, literally no one I know irl has ever heard of it before they met me, and I'm probably not the best at explaining stuff XDD

Inanimate Insanity is an animated web-series on the AnimationEpic YouTube channel.  The story centers around inanimate object based contestants battling it out for a million dollars in a game show setting.  They will have to face bizarre challenges, stressful elimination time, and most importantly, each other.

Did you ever think you would come this far when you first started inanimate insanity?

Absolutely not!  I was thrilled to get even 100 views on the first episode, let alone millions upon millions.  If I told my previous self about where the series is at now, I probably wouldn't believe it.
Yeah, it's hard to remember that the show has millions of views when LITERALLY NO ONE I KNOW IRL HAS HEARD OF IT UNTIL THEY MET ME!!!!!!!!! Seriously people, please just watch it, you won't be disappointed

How did you come up with the idea for inanimate insanity?

I had been a huge fan of Total Drama Island and Battle for Dream Island, and wanted to begin to learn animating and found the object show style to be very approachable.  I wanted to give the objects qualities based on which objects they were and just wanted to create stories and character interactions.  So, I utilized the reality show format but put my own spin on it!

How did you come up with the ideas for some of the story lines in II?

A lot of it stems from just creativity, shooting ideas around with the other writers, and life experience.  Go out there and experience life, challenge yourself, push yourself!  It'll improve your stories and your sense of pride!
Yeah, I can agree with that when it comes to storylines. Yesterday and this morning I figured out the perfect way to end a NAOS storyline based off my new favourite anime, Angel beats(highly recommended to watch if you haven't already)

We've had songs two episodes in a row, as well as one in season 2 episode 7, and all of the season 1 songs, so can we expect any more songs in future episodes, and what characters are we likely to see singing in the future?

You can expect songs in the future!  Episode 12 had "Just Like Me" as well, and as for which characters... you will have to wait to find out!

We know that all of the characters have many layers to their personalities, but who would you say has the most layers?

The "most layers" is a little bit tricky, but right off the bat... I'll pick Lightbulb for now.  Lightbulb tries to brighten the mood constantly but in doing so comes off as inauthentic and not empathetic, which turns people away from her.  She just wants everyone to get along, but doesn't quite have the pull to make it happen.  I think this is very apparent in Ep.12
Yeah, if before episode 12 someone told me Lightbulb has loads of layers, I by far wouldn't of believed them, but I do agree with this

Would you ever do a season 3, and if you would, which characters that we already know would be competing?

There will not be a Season 3.

What do you plan on doing after you've finished Inanimate Insanity?

It's hard to say, I'm just not sure!  I definitely want to be working in cartoons!  Whether it be for an animation studio for a television series, or just being on YouTube, I want to keep making fun content for you guys!  You guys are the reason I continue what I do.
It may not be ii season 3, but I still look forward to it!

Not counting Taco, how often do you think we will see the past players and eliminated contestants?

More often in the future!

Does Paintbrush still want people to know its gender, or has it just given up on that by now?

As confirmed in Ep.12, Paintbrush identifies as non-binary.  Paintbrush is not a boy or a girl, they are neither one!
I mean, I was asking if they wanted people to know, but oh well. I mean I guess they did tell Bulby, but at the same time they did mention that not many people know there's a C so they don't bring it up. You can definitely tell I wrote these before episode 12, and if I could go back and update these questions, I would

Who has your favourite character relationships and interactions come from?

I like the contrast between Knife and Suitcase, and Paintbrush and Lightbulb.  They're chemistry is super unique and hard to define, and it plays out on screen well in my opinion.  Baseball and Nickel also had some heartfelt moments!

How does it feel to know that you have inspired so many people?

Well, I'm not sure how many people I have truly inspired, but I'm thankful if it is anyone!  I just want kids to know that if they want to make a show, or really do anything, they don't have to wait to be given an opportunity.  We live in a world now where you can make it happen at any time, anywhere!  So DO IT!

If Mic was eliminated before/in episode 9, who do you think Taco would of chosen to work with instead?

Taco chose Mic because she saw her as someone she could use, so I'd assume someone that is desperate for an alliance.  I'd say Suitcase or Balloon, likely.  But who's to say?

I can't quite answer this... I'll just say keep watching!  More will be revealed about ALL of their backstories in the coming episodes.

Would you ever reanimate/redo any of the season 1 episodes after you've finished II?

No.  Part of the fun and beauty of those episodes is that it showcased the mind of 12-year-old Adam just making a little show, and updating it would seem inauthentic to me.  Plus, I'd rather animate new stuff.

Would you ever do any spin offs  like how you did the Taco show back in season 1?

Not likely, no.  All of my effort is being put into Inanimate Insanity S2, and my future in the industry.

What's the weirdest thing and/or the best thing an II fan has ever done that you know about?

One fan, Cooper, sent me a plush cheesy that he made, that was unbelievable!  Probably the most floored I've been.  Also all of the fans who made it to our VidCon fan meet-up truly made my year, what a great group of people!
I really wanted to go to VidCon but couldn't because it's in America and I'm stuck in England. But hopefully I will be able to go one day

This is more of a joke/reference to one of your livestreams, but what is going on in the life of Knife?
Has anyone seen that stream? It's great. Honestly I love all of their streams, but should maybe go into the next one without being a shipper because after that last 1 I now ship Justin and Brian because of that 1 part when they was saying about them staying at Adams house' and how he wakes everyone up is with this animatronic doll thing that does a mini dance and makes a sound or something, and apparently this was Brian's first time staying, so he didn't know about it, and he and Justin were in the basement together, and Justin knew about it, and Brian said in the stream that he was lucky that Justin was there to protect him, so they are my new irl otp. Then I realised that Adam and Taylor would be lonely, and then realised that they are also pretty close. And then I realised Ben(Ballons voice actor and the guy who writes the songs (and sang just like me)), and Lauren I think his name was(the guy who voices Traffic Lights, and who is an animator), would also be lonely. Then I realised that I doubt all of them would be gay for each other, or even gay in the first place, and I realised how awkward it would be for them if they found out I'm now shipping half of the ii cast with each other. So yeah, someone teach me not to ship everything
Anyway, back to the question XDDD

Knife's just chilling!  He's playing this fun game for a million dollars and finds himself surrounded in utter chaos.  Between Suitcase/Baseball's feud, Mic/Taco's secret alliance, Lightbulb's antics, and Fan's alien egg, he seems to be the only rational person left!  Can he use that to his advantage?
