Chapter 4

Roman looked around. His head hurt and so did his stomach. He groaned and tried to sit up. A red hot pain tore through his body and he yelped. Patton rushed in. He grabbed the prince's shoulders and pushed him back down onto the bed.

"No, no, no. You're not going anywhere!" Patton cried. He checked the IV next to Roman and sighed.

"It's a good thing Virgil saw it happen, if he hadn't been there you might have bled out. It was a really deep wound and you had to have surgery. I had to give a statement because Virgil could barely move from shock and, well... Logan..."
"Was the one who stabbed me" Roman finished off. He remembered everything clearly and couldn't bear the idea of lying to Patton.

"Logan has been caught by your royal guard and is awaiting trial right now. They said that, if you were better you could attend and you would be a 'damning piece of evidence' whatever that meant."
"It means that if I attend and show them the scar they will be able to provide any verdict they choose... including the death penalty. And I planned on outlawing it, hence why I was in the imagination in the first place."
"How ironic" Patton murmured. He looked at the prince with tears in his eyes.

"I told him where you were, Roman. I told him without a second thought and I nearly lost you and I might loose him too." he sobbed. Roman held the side of Patton's face and wiped his tears with his thumb.

"Patton, you didn't know. He had me fooled as well. He acted like he was going to kiss me and I didn't know what to do so I moved in, I agreed and I felt horrible because I wasn't thinking about kissing him, I was thinking about kissing y- someone else..."
"B-but I can't help but feel like... I-I've done something wrong..."
"You haven't, I haven't, Virgil hasn't. This was Logan. He tried to kill me, not you, not Virgil, not even Deceit. This was Logan and we have to accept that."
"It just doesn't add up. When your guards found him, he was crying and he looked panicked. He was terrified, Roman. He tried to resist at first but then he just... gave up. He just went limp. He didn't fight or beg. He only said one thing, over and over and it terrified me"
"What was it?"
"He said our mantra: It's just an nightmare. It isn't real, if it isn't real it can't hurt you. He repeated it, again and again and I can't sleep because of it. What was he thinking, Roman? What was he seeing?"
"I don't know that, Patton. It goes without saying that you have to be pretty messed up in the head to try and kill someone so that could be it. The thing is, Patton. I'm worried. What happens when a side dies?"
"I didn't want to tell you this, but it seems I have to now... we die and then we get... reborn? We are exactly the same, except we have no memory of our death, or the death of any of the others. I haven't died yet so I remember the time you died before. I don't want to go into too much detail but you died really horribly and then, while you were dead... Virgil... starved to death. He refused to eat. He died and when you both came back I was overjoyed, Logan had already accepted it but he cried when he saw you both there..." Patton's voice faded off as he sobbed more. Roman had tears in his own eyes.

"That must've been traumatic, Patton. I... I'm sorry." He grabbed Patton's hand and placed his lips to it. Patton smiled and blushed.

"Thanks, Roman. I owe you"
"I owe you. If you hadn't have been there, I wouldn't be here. You're the real hero, you're my hero."

"Logan Logic Sanders, come this way please."
"Anxiety."
"Pardon?"
"I'm not logic anymore, I might not even be anxiety. I don't deserve to be a side, I don't deserve to be a part of Thomas. Just kill me already, I don't need to go to trial if I already know the verdict." Logan's voice was broken, the kind of voice a person had when they hadn't spoken a word in days, when all they had done was cry. He looked up at the guard, his eyes were puffy and red from crying until he had run out of tears to cry. The bags under his eyes touched his cheeks and were as black as his clothes, which were unwashed and crumpled. He was thinner as he had turned down every meal and had paced nervously for the first two days. In short, he was a mess. He stood up on shaky legs and stumbled to the door, tripping on his own feet. The guard opened the door and put handcuffs on the broken side. Logan didn't protest when they cut into his wrists, he only hissed slightly but when the guard went to loosen them he pulled his wrists close to his chest

"It's fine, it only hurts a bit. I deserve it. I don't know what I did but I'm probably guilty as charged. Anxiety has always been the villain. I'm not surprised that I was arrested."
"Okay, enough deep talk. Come with me." The guard grabbed the cuffs and pulled Logan along. He didn't protest, he only stumbled and tripped after the guard. He saw the wide double doors and he panicked. He knew it would be a big trial, half of the imagination's kingdom would be there and he couldn't stand the idea. He felt tears slip down his face and he cried as he was lead into the room. He stood next to the defence attorney and felt the presence next to him shift slightly away from him.

"What am I being charged for?" Logan murmured, to himself rather than anyone else.

"Attempted murder..." the attorney whispered as she looked away from him.

"WHAT?!!" He yelled, terrifying both the woman next to him and himself. He hadn't attacked anyone, when had he blacked out lately? Who had he even tried to kill? Was it even really him? What was he even asking about? His mind spiralled down into the hellhole of a panic attack for the third time that week. He fell to the floor and began pushing himself back, trying to clasp his hands over his ears. It was a useless action, but it made things seem slightly better. Logan's mind was still reeling and he heard voices but he could only focus on a few words.

"Logan.... okay?.... breathing.... calm down....."

"Stand.... you... right....cry, murderer"

"Breathe with me, come on Logan" He heard a familiar voice and, despite his blurred vision, he recognised Patton. He breathed deeply, calming himself steadily. He looked up at Patton. The man before him was caring yet cold. He looked like he wanted to walk away but he didn't. Logan stood and brushed himself off. He stood next to his attorney and waited, not saying a single word for fear that he might break down again.

"After careful deliberation the court deems Logan Logic Sanders guilty of attempted murder and sentences him to death via electrocution."
