Chapter 8, Hunted

Authors note:

To those who might be wondering you pronounce Surlue's name Sir-loo.

Recap

Before they could speak I let out a snarl, transforming into my wolf I charged their leader, nipping his leg then biting it, I through him at a rock, breaking his back as I already saw him turning inside out and screaming in pain.

Quickly ripping the throats, and insides out of the others, I spat one of their hearts out to see the leader dead.

Sighing I went over to the river to wash my face and paws off, then I continued my search for my brother after not smelling my mate anywhere.

End of Flashback

I looked back at the spirit of the last great wolf and shook my head, sighing I let out a whimper, “That would make sense I guess…”

I looked at the spirit touching her foot with my snout I shared the flash back with her.

Chapter 8, Hunted

I looked at her as she nodded her head understanding.

“I guess the legend is true then,” The spirit spoke to me as I watched her unsettled, her voice changed way more serious as she spoke the second time, “The legend is true, you will see your mate again, Internal Moonlight.”

I let out a sigh as I barked up at her, “Please just call me Tenna, and my wolf is Secret, and also please tell me, it’s not the legend of Spinet is it?”

My voice was full of fear as I spoke of the legend of Spinet; it was a legend my mother used to tell me and said I would be a part of.

Spinet was a Moon wolf, and a witch. Rare but possible, she was crazy, but respected; some said that she could read the future. All her respect was lost when she spoke of a legend of a great war, saying that it was the future.

I remember my mom telling me the legend one night years back, while tucking me in bed and saying that it had truth and was to come, and I would be in it. As the flashback rolled into my mind I didn’t fight it.

“Bed time Tenna, the humans will get curious if you stay up all night listening to tales of werewolves.” My mother spoke to me in her calming voice, she smiled sweetly at me.

It was 1562, January 9th; I was 6 years old, most people my age put to work during that time.

I sat on a pile of wheat, which I slept on. I looked at my mom as my face turned to a frown, tilting my head to the side I opened my mouth to speak to my mother.

“Why? The Elder said that she saw a man turn into a wolf, any child my age would be curious even if for different reasons, they might be wondering how it’s possible and how to kill it, although I wonder if it was a Moon Wolf or a normal werewolf. Anyone would be curious momma, and you and father never tell me stories of the past.” I pouted at my mom as she let out a heavy sigh.

“Tennlousia Moon Inmor, you and I have talked about this, jikno liperna subnorishlet, kilat sona lorat minlo, Jike lopa sonlue gijk Elder Cornak Ranfram,” She spoke in Ronna and said my full name pronounced, Ten-loo-sea-a Moon In-more. And translated to English her last part of the sentence would be, Humans are untrustworthy and will stop at nothing to harm you if found out, they have learned werewolves one weakness, and are only hope is that this blows over and science proves this wrong in humans eyes, the Elder in this village is crazy.

“Yanlou Momma! Canlou duna lko darnia lhu haio fido oj adjl Ronna?” I asked her with a heavy sigh, I was smart for my age, and already mastered being a Moon Wolf, Fine Momma! But won’t the humans get questions about of us speaking in Ronna?

“Very well smart child, but if you wish I will tell you a legend, the legend of Spinet?” She asked me as question filled her eyes but also humor, she knew y response.

“Yes Momma, Yes please! I love legends,” I perked up as my voice was full of excitement at the fact of being told a story, let alone a ‘great’ legend!

“Yes, yes, now what was it? Oh yes,” Mother spoke in her heavy British accent, “There once was a witch, werewolf hybrid, she believed that she was part Moon wolf but fact, and scent denied that, Moon wolves didn’t like her lies, legend, and trickery.

She believed that she could tell the future, although this was in 1207 her fortunes held truth. Her witch powers were strong although her wolf was weak; her wolf’s name was Pollen. She once went to a meeting of packs for she didn’t have one, she was close friends with the alpha of the strongest pack at the time.

There she spoke of a legend she was told by The Immortal Moonlight, in that legend it said that the next Immortal Moonlight would united humans, and wolves, in the time of war, only to start a new war between wolves, witches, and vampires. And that the legend would be passed down to the next Immortal Moonlight, and that the war would make her kill her mate, everyone she loved, and push the werewolf race into extinction and destroy the world, and…” Momma stopped as she stared blankly at me trying to decide how to tell me the rest.

“And what?” I asked excitement laced in my voice, only to be demolished by her answer to become horror.

“She didn’t get to finish, her best friend, the alpha of the strongest pack let out a growl and ripped her heart out and through it on the ground announcing that she was insane to think that was true. The next day the Immortal Moonlight was discovered only to be killed as well…” My momma looked at me sadness in her eyes as she gave me a deer pelt to wrap myself in for the night.

My face was full of unanswered questions as my momma kissed me goodnight.

Letting myself come back to my mind I shook the flash back away as the spirit in front of me smiled then laughed.

“No M- Tenna, not the legend of Spinet she was full of gibberish,” She smiled as she shook her head and motioned her hand for me to follow, I did.

We walked through my birth place as I admired the area, I would return and claim it as my packs territory, and that I knew.

I looked at the spirit before I could speak she did, “Please you can just call me Jenna, not spirit.” she let out a laugh as I figured she could hear my thoughts, considering we were in my mind.

“What legend then if not Spinet’s, Jenna?” I asked as I looked at her, we were at a fountain with stone around it and its clear water coming out of a howling wolf’s mouth.

“The legend of Wolves,” Jenna simply answered as she smiled, her figure starting to vanish along with everything else, I was waking up.

I began to panic that I wouldn’t get answers I quickly spoke in a frantic voice, “What legend is that? Where are you going? When will we meet next? When will I see my mate again?!?”

She looked at my with a smile of sympathy as she spoke, “Soon, he is looking for you, and your heart will lead you to him, you will find him, and he you…”

Her voice faded as I’ll I saw was black, distant voices speaking in the back of my mind as I let out a groan of exhaustion.

Wake up Tenna, they are worried,’ Secret spoke to me waking me up.

I opened my eyes to be met with leaves on my face as I was wet with ice cold, dirty, river water.

“Who. Put. Me. In. The. River?” I asked my voice laced with anger.

Jack let out a gulp as he stared at me and raised his hand.

“You little, Jack!” I snarled at him as I stood up shifting to my wolf to be rewarded with gasps as they saw my leg.

“I was trying to wake you up and… Your- Your, the Immortal Moonlight?” Jack asked trembling knowing my power, very much.

I simply snorted at his excuse as I nodded to say yes.

Sammy looked at me in total awe, then disbelief, then respect. Only to shake her head as that was replaced with fear.

Oh no she thinks Spinet’s legend is true just like we did! We have to tell her the truth!’ Secret whimpered as I nodded in my head to her agreeing.

We have to find out what this Legend of Wolves is.
