Life is full of conditions,

Memorising them is no easy mission.

If you want to learn them by heart,

Read this poem for a start.

If I eat more chocolate, I will become fatter.

If I drink more milk, my bones will be stronger.

If I jump more, I will be taller.

These are all realistic and can happen in the future.

If I were a mermaid, I would swim in the reef.

If I were rich, I would sit at home and eat beef.

If I were a fisherman, I would eat fish from a dish.

These things are unlikely to happen, however much I wish.

If only my uncle had not gotten cancer, he would not have died.

If only I had not broken my sister's toy, she would not have cried.

If only I had known the consequences, I would not have lied.

These things have happened are impossible to alter, we can only sigh.

If...but what if...if only.

These are the conditionals, all put down neatly.

Memorising these conditionals is a gift and not a burden,

So we should treasure it and make use of the present.
