Chapter 15
MOONWATCHER
"Where am I?"
Darkstalker chuckled. You still don't know?
This is your mind. Every single thought, memory, and emotion you have ever felt is here.
And you can never escape.
BRIGHTNESS
Darkstalker seemed preoccupied; he was staring into space, and he was a lot of different colors, including amusement.
Brightness fiddled with a stick. There was something...off about her.
She frowned, snapping the stick in half.
The feeling of her own tail, ripping away from her body. The feeling of strong talons snapping her neck. The feeling of a dagger slitting her throat.
The feeling of being crushed with a huge boulder by someone she truly despised.
All of it was there. All of it never left.
It just dug deeper into her heart, as if every action was pushing a dagger into her soul.
The stick was nothing but splinters of wood.
Brightness noticed a loose pebble in the mountain. And paused.
She could see the rock molding into something she wanted. Something she needed.
She took in a deep breath and prepared to make her destructive spell.
STAR
Star could read minds and see the future.
Born on the brightest night, he was gifted with the strongest powers.
The only thing his mother had done right.
He could see every possible future. Every outcome to an action. Every single thing that could go wrong with his life.
Each day was a careful step to avoid terrible consequences.
And he had made the mistake to come to Jade Mountain.
We're all going to die.
TAMARIN
Tamarin watered the sweet-smelling flowers in front of her. The healers had explained that even a slight sniff from the beautiful passifloras would knock out a patient within three minutes.
She moved a few dragon-lengths away from the garden and took in deep breaths, finished with the job.
I heard that they looked beautiful, Tamarin thought. I wish that I could see them.
She sighed, her wings drooping.
I miss Brightness.
Tamarin missed the quiet companion she had in Jade Mountain. Although they had trouble communicating at the first few months, they had bonded a close friendship.
Brightness was a relief from the world, where she new that she wasn't the only one who was missing a sense.
And she's much less...overwhelming than others.
Tamarin found a small, fragile flower in the midst of the large, sweet smelling garden.
She plucked it with two claws, breathing in the mixed scent of lemons and watermelons.
One day, I'll visit her in Jade Mountain.
