Chapter 12

JASMIN

Jasmin sat in her nest of soft sand, unable to sleep. Each time she tried to close her eyes, memories of her fight with Wasp kept overtaking her mind.

She had taken a total of seven pills to try and sleep, but their effects were getting fainter and fainter, until they actually made everything worse. Every passing yellow or black dragon looked like the huge, looming figure of the former HiveWing queen.

A noise near her cave made her whirl around, tail-barb raised.

"Who's there?" She snarled.

A dragon with silvery-white scales and strange black patterns on the underside of her wings peaked into her cave. She seemed to be a bit younger than Deathbringer.

Weird. I don't remember seeing her around here.

Jasmin frowned when she noticed the new dragon's eyes. A dark, piercing blue that was so familiar to her that she hadn't noticed sooner.

"Hey-"

"Jasmin!" The other dragon lunged at her, arms outstretched. Jasmin quickly moved out of the way, her scales shifting into a cautious and angry orange.

"What do you think you're doing?" Jasmin barked.

"Oh, right. I forgot to introduce myself." The silver dragon smiled. "Hi. I'm Eve. Formerly Eclipse. You know, your really awesome pet ocelot?"

Jasmin blinked, surprised. Then she shrugged.

"Well, hi."

"That's all you're going to say?!"

VISIONER

When Visioner woke up, he realized that he was encased in a thick, tight cage of vines. They crawled over each other until there wasn't a single hole in the barrier.

What in all of Pyrrhia-?

He sat up, dumbfounded. The cage was just big enough to let him sit and curl up. A stray vine twisted over his snout, tightening so he couldn't speak.

"MMMPHD!" He tried to call for Tide, searching frantically for an opening without any luck.

Perhaps fire would work...?

He built up fire in his throat, shuddering at the burning sensation. He blew a small plume of flame through his nostrils, burning the vine over his snout into crisp.

Visioner shook the remaining vine off his face, then shouted. "Tide!"

No response.

He waited until the fire in his throat was too hot for him to bear, then opened his mouth to blast the fireball at the wall of vines.

Boom.

He shrank away at the all-too-familiar feeling of scorching heat against his scales. Pieces of burning vine landed on him, making him cry out in pain.

When he opened his eyes, he was met with the sight of Clay, Sunny, Tide, Jasmin, and the strange silver dragon he'd encountered in the hallways.

"Visioner!" Tide yelped. Jasmin frowned, her bright green eyes fixed on the ground.

Tide ran towards Visioner, an expression of worry and fright clear on his face. "Are you alri-"

"WATCH OUT!" Jasmin roared, lunging forward.

"Wha-" Tide started, but the fiery hybrid dragon pulled him out of the way just as more vines erupted from the ground, swallowing Visioner back into tight, ever-moving cage of vines again.
