13. Past Comes To Life.

"S-Sister?" I stuttered, my hands sweaty from their grip on my phone.

"Victoria! Sorry, sweetie. There's a lot to talk about. Lena, come home, now." demanded my mother.

"Okay, mom." And with those words, I hung up.

I looked at Liam, who read my fear and shock. I shook my head tiredly, and stood up.

"Sorry Li, I've got to go. Family emergency." I said.

He nodded understandingly.

I gave him a quick hug, and ran to my house. A million questions were making my head hurt. I had a sister? How? Who was she? And if this isn't some kind of sick joke, why was she here now?

In front of my house, a flashy red car was parked. I took my time walking to the front door, and hesitantly unlocked it. I could hear two people shouting.

I entered the living room, only to see two women sitting face to face. One of them was my mom, the other one was a complete stranger to me. She had long, wavy, brown hair that cascaded to her waist. Her eyes were brown, chestnut like. She had delicate features, yet she looked familiar.

When her gaze landed on me, she immediately stood up, and shook my hand.

"Who are you?" I asked, averting my eyes between her and my mom, who looked like she was about to cry.

"I'm Victoria Winter, your sister."

Her words hit me like a cold, hard slap in the face. I was astonished, surprised and shock.

"No, I'm an only child. Right mom?" I hoped she'd exclaim: "Got you! You just got pranked!" Yet, she didn't, she put her head in her hands.

"No, Lena, I'm your sister." said Victoria. Her eyes flickered with fatigue.

"H-How?"

"I'm your half-sister. I'm older than you with approximately a year."

This didn't clear anything up.

"How?" I repeated.

Finally, my mom decided to answer, her voice was throaty :"Your dad had a daughter with his ex-wife, before he married me."

My face went slack, my mouth slightly open, and I felt all color draining from my face as I stared wide-eyed at my...my sister. I froze up to a point where I could hardly feel myself breathing, but when shock began to melt away, everything returns slowly.

I let out a sudden sigh, opened my mouth to speak. Then I snapped it shut.

I gulped.

"Impossible." I said, my voice raspy and barely audible.

Victoria and Mom stayed very still waiting for my reaction.

I regained strength.

"Mother! How could he? He had a daughter?" I bellowed.

My mom shrunk down a little, guilt taking over her. I knew what that meant?

"You knew?"

But the way she put her head down gave me the answer.

"How could you? How could you hide my own sister from me!"

Victoria advanced towards me and put her hand on my shoulder. I shook it off.

"She didn't know that I was going to be here. Every one thought I'd live in England forever." She explained calmly. That cleared up the fact that she had a thick, British accent.

"Why are you here now?" I struggled keeping my nerves collected.

"Well, my mom just died-"

I quickly said: "I'm so sorry for your loss." Mad or not, she'd just lost her mother.

"Thank you. Her will indicated for me to live with my father, but I just found out that-" Her voice choked up.

I immediately put my arms around her in a tight hug, she was my sister. She was an orphan.

I felt my shirt getting wet with her tears. I rubbed her back soothingly.

"It's okay, everything's going to be okay." I kept muttering.

Victoria pulled away and smiled through her tears.

"I now know why my mum used to say that Dad was kind. You inherited that from him, Lena."

Her words touched my heart, I gave her another hug. I already cared about her, I knew we would get along well.

I turned to my mom.

"She can stay here, right?"

"Yeah, but you two would have to share a room." My mom bit her lip. I shrugged, a smile forming on my face.

"Come on, Tori! I can call you that, right?"

Victoria chuckled and nodded.

"Yay! Now let's go, I'll show you my room." I took my hand, and excitingly hopped on the stairs.

"Well, it's perfect. Where should I sleep?" Tori said, observing the room.

"I'm getting a job, so I'll try to save up the money for another bed, for now, you sleep on the bed and I'll take my camping mattress."

The sleeping arrangements didn't please Tori. She wanted me to sleep on the bed. I'm stubborn, yet so was she.

"Tori! I'm sleeping on the mattress, end of discussion." She smiled shyly, and I was the one who felt like the adult.

My sister kicked her high heels off, and went to the bathroom to borrow some of my comfy clothes. I didn't mind. I imitated her, then she sat on the bed with crossed legs.

"Come on, we have a lot to talk about." She patted the empty place in front of her.

I obliged, then shyly admitted:

"I was about to get my first kiss today."

"Shut up! Really?" She exclaimed, quite loudly.

"Yeah."

"Who is it? Is he cute?" She blabbered curiously.

"He's my best friend." I said, playing with my sleeves.

"Did he tell you he liked you, does he flirt with you?"

"He's mute."

Tori sucked in a sharp breath.

"Wow."

"Yeah. He's the best."

"Aw, Lele's in love."

My mouth went agape. I took a pillow and hit her playfully with it.

"Don't call me that! And I don't love him! We're simply friends, nothing more." She raised her eyebrow, unconvinced.

"Oh yeah? Why are you redder than a tomato right now then?"

I hit her harder this time.

"Okay, okay, I'll close my trap. Do you have a picture of your "amigo"?"

"Yes, I do. Wait, let me look for my camera. We went to the park today."

"Aw." cooed Tori.

Where was the camera? I flipped through my scattered clothes, but it was nowhere.

"Where could I've put it?"

"Retrace your steps, that helps." She offered. I took a deep breath, trying to calm my frantic nerves.

"Well, I went to the park, took pictures with Liam. Then, the incident was about to happen. Mom called, I heard you, I left in a hurry..." Suddenly, I felt lost. Tori ushered with her hands impatiently, waiting for it to click in my head.

"OH! I left it in the park! Oh, no, no. It's the same camera Dad gave me, 8 years ago."

"Text Liam, you idiot." She pointed to her head, as if to say I was stupid. Psht.

I opened my phone and looked through my unread messages. They were all from him.

"Hey, Lenapoo. Is every thing okay at home? Text me when you see this."

"Lenaaa, well, you forgot your camera here, so I took it with me. I'll guard it with my ninja skills, pinky promise."

"Lenaaaaa, are you okay?"

"Why are you not answering meee?"

"I'm sorry for anything I did :3"

"Well, goodnight my potato. I love you as much as a unicorn loves a rainbow."

I blushed at the last time. He probably didn't really mean it like that. I glanced at the clock, it was 1:am. Tori who read the messages, started mumbling:

"Leliam? No, no. How about Leniam? Perfect."

That's how a huge pillow fight started.
