Chapter One

~No One's POV~
It had been a year since the German doctor married the southern belle from North Carolina. The world finally turning to pure chaos; meaning that the virus that had been reanimating corpses begun to spread. The disease begun in major cities such as New York, Los Angles, Chicago, and many more.
The armed forces have been desperately trying to contain the panic and mayhem within the country. In other countries, it was just the same. Countries that were in poverty had it much worse than the others. The military base where the heroes reside at are pondering the idea of dispatching them to areas where their expertise is needed the most.

~Doctor Richthofen's P.O.V~
I stared at my wife who was currently sitting on the windowsill of our quarters. She was cleaning her shotgun quietly and thoroughly, making sure every nook and cranny have been polished. She cocked the weapon once before setting it beside her on the cushion she was perched on.
"Liebe?" I broke the silence with a hushed voice. "Yea?" I watched the blonde spin around and rest her back against the window pane that was covered with rain. I walked over to her and sat down beside her, wrapping an arm around her smaller shoulders. "What's on your mind? You're usually not this quiet and focused on anything for a long while." I spoke, squeezing her shoulder a bit. "It's nothing really, also what is that supposed to mean? Just because I can't keep still doesn't mean I can't relax once in a while!" She shouts and slaps my thigh. I grinned and leaned in to ruffle her hair a bit. "You're so childish sometimes liebling." She sighs, shaking her head. "Do you think we will be able to leave the military base soon? I would like to return home and see how things are." I open my mouth to reply but close it as I begun to think about all the things I have endured along the way.
A knock at the door draws my attention away from the shorter girl. "Who could it be? I thought everyone was settling in for the night." Savannah says, leaning forward to slide off the soft cushion she was on. I raised my wrist to look at my watch and back at her. "Liebe, it's only 5:00pm..." I muttered and lowered my wrist down. "Couldn't tell with how gloomy it is." My wife sassed back at me.
I stifle a chuckle as I walk with her and wrap my arm around the small of her back and open the door with my free hand.
Mason was standing there wearing a tactical shirt and pants along with a helmet. "Hello there, hope I wasn't interrupting anything. I've been ordered to start training y'all to fight. I mean of course if you are rusty on skills that is." The younger man rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.
"It's no trouble at all, I could use some practice. What do you say liebe?" I turn to face Savannah who looked from mason towards me. "Yeah, gives me something to do." She said with a nod of her head. "Im starting to get cabin fever." She chuckles nervously and rubs her arm in a shy matter. "I'll leave you two so that you can get dressed for the practice. I need to make a few more rounds to gather everyone together. Practice is at 6." With that, Mason turns and leaves us, shutting the door behind him.

~Tank Dempsey's P.O.V~
I drove in silence with my hands clutching the steering wheel of the green Jeep I had been using. I had been visiting Isabelle Glendale almost every weekend ever since I found out she was still alive.
Mason granted me permission to leave the base after I had explained what I had found out. He didn't seem too happy about the fact that an old lover of mine was still in the picture but he understood. I drove into town which had guards placed along the outskirts, making sure to keep the peace and panic to a minimum.
I pulled into the parking lot of the nursing home of where Isabelle now resides. "Tank... you came just in time... it's granny..." Her great grandchild Rebecca spoke with remorse.
"I know..." I sighed and swallowed the lump in my throat. Isabelle didn't have much time left, for her illness she was battling with for years was finally taking its toll on her heart. I quickly walked into her room to rush by her side. "Tank...   My sweet and handsome Tank. I am glad I will be around you one last time. It is I who will be taking leave from you my love." The old white haired woman chuckled weakly. She always had a bizarre sense of humor to her character but never the less, she was still charming.
"I know. I will join you once again and I won't leave you when I do." I grabbed her tiny and pale hand, giving it a small squeeze. "Please do take care of Rebecca and make sure she finds someone like you... I am getting very sleepy and must rest now." Isabelle whispered in a hush before closing her heavy eyes.
"Granny... I love you." I looked over at Rebecca who had tears falling from her eyes. "I love you too... I am so proud of who you have become." Her great grandmother smiled one last time before her breathing stopped. I slowly released my grip on the older woman's hand once I felt her pulse was gone.
I couldn't cry, not now anyways, I had to be strong for Rebecca. "Come on, it's time to go." I muttered, turning to face Rebecca who was biting her lip and trying not to cry.

~Time Skip; Training, Savannah's P.O.V~
I looked at the door of the training facility that we were in to see Tank walking in with a grim look on his face. He joined us at the lineup in front of the range.
"Hey..." I whispered to him barely audible to not draw attention. "Hey there." He muttered not looking up at me. "I'm so sorry, I had a feeling it was coming. I'm glad you got to spend time with her once again. I'm here if you need to talk, okay?" I placed a comforting hand on his shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "Thank you." Tank nodded and fixed his gaze at the weapons that were laying on a metal table.
"Attention everyone, today we will be focusing on blades. So everyone grab a weapon of your choice and we will start sparring." Mason grabs everyone's attention with a clap of his hands. I looked at the table and picked up a Ka-Bar USMC combat knife with a leather holster.
"Nice choice liebe, it suits you." My husband leaned over and whispered into my ear, sending shivers down my spine as his warm breath tickles my ear. I gazed down at the blade in my hand and I adorned a grim look on my face. It looked like the one my father had used multiple times when we would go hiking. He never told me where he got it from. Come to think of it, there was a lot of things dad never told me.
My mind started thinking about a lot of things regarding my parents. "Liebe? It's time to start sparring." Edward waved his gloved hand in front of my face, snapping me out of my thoughts. I nodded and quickly joined the world again, taking a look around the gymnasium that we were in.

~Mason's P.O.V~
I looked at Tank who was standing beside Savannah and frowned. I could tell he was saddened about the loss of his first love. I guess I'd probably never experience what those two had which to a degree, it makes me jealous but I'm glad he had someone.
"You may all choose your own sparring partners. Now, these are not toys, they are weapons so do be careful. Put on the protective gear that is sitting on the table next to the weapons please." I announce, not taking my eyes off of Tank. I watched everyone pair off with each other and start practicing. I walked away to have a seat by the main doors. I looked out the window, watching the steady rainfall. Why is the weather always rainy lately? There wasn't a call for a hurricane or any tropical storms...
I grabbed a chair and sat down to look at my tablet. I scrolled through the news to see if the weather changed any. This didn't make sense at all. The only tropical storms were in the pacific.
I shook my head and sighed, maybe it has something to do with what's going on around the world, that could be the only logical reason. "Dr. Richthofen, can you come here for a moment?"

~Takeo's P.O.V~
I didn't need any blade training so I sat next to the window watching the clouds roll by. "Dr. Richthofen, can you come here for a moment?" I listened in as Mason called over the German.
I know as a noble warrior it isn't right to eavesdrop but I couldn't help but think it has something to do with our situation.
I watched the lanky man walk over to the younger one, taking a seat next to him. "Doctor, I've been thinking a lot about the weather here lately. I'm not sure why it has been raining a lot but I have a theory..." Mason scratched the back of his neck nervously as if he was worried about what the German would say. "Well, let me hear what you are thinking." Richthofen shifted in his seat. "I have a feeling that the bad weather we have been having lately since you all arrived here is associated with the dark world." The younger man finished speaking and looked to the ground. "Your theory makes sense but I'm not sure why it is coming in this sort of way and what exactly is to happen." The doctor noticed how nervous the younger man was and grinned whilst putting a hand on the latter's shoulder. "Do not be afraid to share hypothesis, science is based around theory and questions."
Edward has calmed down a lot since he married Savannah. I smiled to myself and shook my head. I looked over at the girl who tamed the nazi scientist. She was standing next to the door and peering out the window, not too far from me. "Savannah?" I got up and walked over to her. She seemed to be stuck in thought or if she sees something that no one else does. "Hello?" I called to her again, no response.
She moved her hands towards the door, opening it and stepped outside into the gloomy evening. A bright flash engulfed her and she disappeared. I ran out to where she was but all that was left in her place was the outline of her boots imprinted into the wet concrete.
"Tak? What the hell was that?" Tank ran out and joined me. I pointed towards the ground and then to the sky. "The American girl was devoured by a light. I never seen anything like it before." I looked at the American who had a face full of concern. "We need to tell the kraut immediately!" Dempsey shouts and grabs my arm, pulling me back into the gymnasium. "RICHTOFEN! SAVANNAH IS GONE!" Dempsey shouted as he pulled me to the German in question. "Gone?! What do you mean gone?!" A look of pure worry appeared on the man's face. I begun to explain what I seen and how she was acting. "This is not good. I hope she is okay... I need to go to my lab and run some tests." With that, we all watched the doctor get up from the chair he was residing in and walked out of the building.
