Shelter
The previously sunny sky had been obscured by the clouds rolling in. Her brother had gone missing for three weeks, Ali shouldn't have tried to look for him, not after he ran off to rescue some girl who tried to get to the other side. The weather felt similar too, strong winds, pouring rain. Only this time the thunder grumbled, threatening to throw lightning at any given moment.
Stray pages of old newspaper flew im the air aimlessly, most of them were tumbling around on the ground. An article about the witness and the missing girl was briefly hanging on a post, then got blown away along with the current uncertainty that followed Ali. She didn't know where she was going, but she needed to find shelter. In a blink of an eye, Ali saw lightning flash.
In the midst of the thunderstorm, Ali sought shelter in the first building she could find-- a ramshackle old barn.
Ali jumped over the fence and ran to the old barn after opening the wooden door, she closed it just as quick. She barricaded the door with the crates she found, one of them was full of rusty farm tools.
Ali leaned on the wall and slid down to squat; raking her ebony, messy hair with both hands. Trying to think how she was going to get through this. Even where her brother was hekd hostage, the thunderdtorm was relentless.
Both siblings were in their early twenties, Aram was 24 and Ali was 21, neither them had spoken nor seen each other since the past three weeks. All because of the storm that separated them.
Not by the actual storm, it was their differing theories related to what caused the eye of the storm:
Aram's theory was that the scientist-- who now is cellmate-- had provoked an anomaly with a climatic altering machine to put the state in a major lockdown.
Ali's theory was that the weather altering machine was used as a prototype and used the scientist as a scapegoat for a man-made natural disaster or a portal to Hell.
Needless to say, they were half right.
Aram had grown a stubble since his stay at the cage. The scientist was coerced into maintaining the masive device running for the sake of his daughter. The pubescent girl became the unwilling test subject to test the machine.
For what purpose?
To open the portal.
The powersource?
A resistant mineral.
Where was it located?
Beneath the barn, the same ramshackle old barn Ali had hid herself in.
Ali had found a shovel in the corner of the barn and dug, originally to dig up a litrine since she couldn't get out with the violent weather occuring on the outside.
After a half hour of digging, she had found something solid. Fortunately, it wasn't a pipe.
"What is this?" Ali asked herself, digging up the strange looking mineral.
The scientist recalibrated the machine and tested it. The machine whirred and the platform where the missing girl stood vibrated. The blast from the machine had temporarily translocated the missing girl.
Of all the places the missing girl appeared-- why did it had to be in the same ramshackle old barn?
