"Carlisle," Bella called out from the bathroom.
"Yah," I answered.
She poked her head out, a brush stuck in her hair. "After we had sex, you started panting. What was that about?"
I knew this would come up soon. I shrugged. "Not yet I don't."
Her head disappeared for a minute, then her whole body reappeared. She sat on the foot of the bed facing me.
"What if you're changing back to a human?" She suggested hopefully.
I shook my head. "That's not possible, Bella. Once someone becomes a vampire, they stay a vampire. There is no cure. No going back. Something is going on though."
I laid back against the headboard thinking. Bella then laid her head on my chest.
"Carlisle," she said astounded.
"What's wrong, Bella?" I asked tensing up.
She raised her head. "I hear a heartbeat."
I didn't say anything. I was too shocked to talk. Nevertheless, I strung together a sentence. "We need to talk to a friend of mine."
**
We had to catch a plane to get to London where he was. Part of me wanted to visit Garret too, but I needed to get myself figured out before anything else.
"So, who is your friend?" Bella asked on the plane.
"Well, I have a lot. That's what happens when you live for three centuries. He is the closest thing to a brother I have. He knows everything about our kind, from the rarest things possible, to the most common. I'll probably ask about your dad, too, but I don't think he'll be able to help about that." I answered.
"What's his name?" She asked.
"Milos Straustan, almost six hundred." I said. Milos became like my father when I was first turned, then quickly became like a brother to me a few years later when I settled in a nearby town with him in London.
"600 years!?" Bella repeated, shocked.
I chuckled. "Bella, I've known a few vampires to live almost 1000 years."
She sat back in her chair, clearly astounded. "Edward never told me that."
I smiled. I figured Edward wouldn't tell Bella more than she needed to know. For the rest of the trip, we talked about how our lives would be for the next three weeks. Neither of our theories seemed better than the other.
"Finally, I was getting stiff," Bella complained when we exited the airport.
"I know. Come on, we have to hurry. It closes in ten minutes." I said, pulling her along.
I went down a dark alley, looked both ways, and pulled a questioning Bella on my back. Then leaped up to the rooftops. Then I went to the edge of London, where Milos owned a small restaurant. We showed up at the door, just when a tall, thin pale man was about to lock the door.
When he saw me, the man opened the door with a big grin.
"Carlisle!" He greeted joyfully, throwing his arms around me.
"Milos." I greeted with a smile.
His eyes trailed to Bella. Then he took in a deep breath. "Who do we have here?" He asked flirtatiously.
"Bella, this is Milos, Milos, Bella, "I introduced.
They shook hands. Then I took Bella's hand in mine and lead her to a nearby table. Milos followed, staring at our hands.
"Do what do I owe the pleasure, Carlisle?" He asked.
"Well, Esme and I are divorcing, and Edward and Bella broke up. So now, we are together, but in the last few days, I've been feeling different. Almost human like." I explained.
Milos didn't say anything for a while. When he did, he said it slowly. "What I think, is that you are turning into a Vuman, a mixture of a human and a vampire. It's not like a hybrid of human and vampire that is so rare. Vumans happen once every century if there lucky. It only happens when a vampire finds their true mate and bonds together forever. Have you too...?" He trailed off.
I nodded.
His expression was unreadable. "How many times?"
I looked at Bella, clearly puzzled.
"Four maybe," Bella guessed.
"Well, I would suggest stopping for now. Because the more you have sex now, Carlisle, the more human you feel. So therefor, four times would mean you get tired, so you have to sleep. " He said.
"That would explain why you started panting." Bella commented.
I nodded thoughtfully. "If we don't stop?"
"Then you would be vulnerable, more like a human than a vampire. You would loose your strength of vampirism, gain it in speed, and maybe a gift, but it is dangerous. Your skin would also start feeling human like, and warm."
"Is there any way to refers everything? Like as if we never had sex?" I asked
"No, You can't change history."
I already knew that, but I was hoping there was a better answer.
I took in all what he said. Then changed the subject. "Bella's father has been bitten with Bad Venom, but he's in transition. When I saw him, his eyes were bright orange, and smelled of blood and decay, then in a flash, his orange eyes were gone and he was back to normal. We've had to leave to keep Bella away, but I want to know if there is anything I can do?"
Milos shook his head. "No, Bad Venom is, well, bad, but three weeks have to pass before the body decides what he will become. There isn't anything you can do."
I nodded. Slowly, Bella nodded too.
I spent the rest of that evening talking to Milos. However, I started to feel tired, so I had to put a stop to our catching up. We had to rent a room in London for the night because we both were tired and for the first time in over 300 years, I laid down beside Bella, my love, to fall asleep.
