Chapter 7: The Escape: Part I
Kai's P.O.V.:
I was still in the hospital with my parents. I had the TV on the news channel, watching for any kind of information on Jay or Nya or any of my friends, but so far it was nothing I didn't already know. I was worried for them.
"I'm sure they'll be ok son." My dad looked at me.
"Well I'm no help if I have to stay in this stupid bed." I groaned. "How much longer am I going to be stuck here?"
"Patience firebug." My mother kissed my forehead. "You have to heal before they let you go."
"Aren't you worried about Nya?" I asked them.
"Of course we are, but this is something she has to deal with on her own." Mom sighed.
"Have you heard anything from your girlfriend?" My father asked me.
"Last I heard she was headed for her father's old island to look for Zane and Pixal, but there's no service over there so I won't hear from her for a while." I frowned.
"Did she say where Nya was going?" Mom asked.
"Nya found Cole who said Lloyd and Kira might be in the cave of despair. She went there to check it out." I told them.
"Is Cole with her?" Dad asked.
"No, he stayed there so Nya wouldn't get caught." I told them.
"At least you know where everyone is and that they're ok." Mom smiled.
"Yeah but I don't know where Jay is." I frowned.
"Jay has some nerve tricking your sister like that." Dad grit his teeth.
"Ray we don't know the full story. Maybe Jay was turned evil by someone."
"That's still no excuse for leaving our daughter heartbroken."
My dad was as overprotective about Nya as I was. To be honest I always thought that Jay loved Nya more than anything and nothing could break them apart. I didn't know if he was possessed or under some sort of spell, but one thing I do know is that he wasn't himself, I just didn't know how or why.
My mom came over with another ice pack for my leg. I don't like my parents babying me, but they weren't around much when I was growing up so they were just trying to make up for lost time. To be honest I missed them a lot and I didn't want to disappoint them.
"How are you feeling son?" She asked.
"Better, I'm just bored." I frowned.
"I know, but there's nothing we can do for them now." My mother sighed and put her hand on my shoulder. "We just have to trust that Nya figures all this out."
As much as I hated to admit it, my mom was right. All I could do was hope that they find a way out.
Lloyd's P.O.V.:
I woke up hoping that it had all been a dream, but it hadn't. Kira and I were still stuck in that cage inside the cave and my arm was still hurting.
"Oh good, you're awake." Kira said to me. She looked tired like she hadn't slept at all.
"Kira?" I looked at her. "Did you get any sleep?"
She shook her head. "I was up all night worried about the others."
"I'm worried about them too." I frowned.
"We need to find a way out of this cave and help them." Kira insisted as she stood up. "Come on Lloyd."
I held out my good hand and Kira helped me to my feet. My legs were numb from sitting down too long but we had to find our way out of here.
Kira and I spent hours trying to solve the lock combination. It was a slide puzzle which neither of us were good at. And of course the cage was vengestone so my powers didn't work.
"Ugh, where's Zane when you need him." I complained as we tried to solve the puzzle.
"Come on Lloyd, we can't give up." Kira smiled. "A ninja never quits, right?"
"Right. You're getting good at this ninja thing." I smiled at her.
"Oh here, I have a better idea." She took a bobby-pin out of her hair and used it to unlock the cage.
"Clever." I said. "Come on, let's find a way out of here."
We started walking through the cave. It was so dark we weren't able to see anything. I tried my powers but they didn't work very well because I had been exposed to too much vengestone. I had enough stamina to get a small flame of energy going, but it was draining me.
"Are you sure you should be doing that?" Kira looked at me. "You seem exhausted."
"I'm ok for now, the vengestone just weakened my powers a little." I told her. "Besides, we need the light from my powers to see."
"I guess." She sighed and looked at how tired I was. "How's you're arm?"
"It feels a lot better now."
"How do you think the others are doing?" She asked.
"Hopefully better than us." I frowned.
As we continued down the cave we heard screaming coming from the area we had just escaped.
"No! How did they get away?!"
"Hide!" I whispered to Kira.
We ducked behind a rock as we heard whoever it was getting closer. As they approached, we heard them shouting.
"Kira? Lloyd?"
I looked from behind the rock and saw Nya. It felt so nice to see a friendly face.
"Nya?" I questioned. "How did you find us?"
"It's a long story but we don't have time. That djinn is right on our tails and we have to get out of here." She said.
"What's a djinn?" Kira asked.
"It's hard to explain, just come on."
Kira and I nodded and started to follow Nya. We went in the opposite direction of where we came from, and we were going deep into the cave.
"So did you find anyone else?" Kira asked Nya as we were walking.
"No, you guys were the first ones I saw. I have no idea where anyone else is." She replied.
"Then how did you know where to find us?" I asked.
"Lucky guess." Nya shrugged and kept walking.
Kira and I looked at each other. It was obvious that she didn't believe her, and I didn't either. The last thing I wanted was to lead Kira into more trouble so we kept our mouths shut, but we kept our guard up just in case.
As we were walking, it was becoming more difficult to keep a flame going with my powers. I was getting tired and my arm still hurt. Kira gave me a look of concern.
"You ok?" She asked me.
"I'm good." I nodded as I caught my breath. "Are you?"
Kira nodded and yawned. I could tell she was tired because she didn't get any sleep last night.
"Nya I think Kira needs a break." I called to her. "She seems really tired."
"And Lloyd needs to rest his arm too." Kira yawned again.
"We can't stop if we want to make it out of here before that djinn catches up with us." Nya said and then kept walking up ahead.
Kira and I looked at each other again. Nya wasn't usually like this. We assumed she was just stressed about Jay being missing and we just dealt with it.
We stayed quiet for the remainder of the walk, becoming more exhausted with every step we took. It got to a point where I had to stop using my powers and I set down on the ground catching my breath. Because that was our only source of light, it was completely dark now and we couldn't see anything.
"Lloyd?" I heard Kira call out to me.
"Sorry I... I couldn't hold it." I frowned and caught my breath.
"It's ok Lloyd, I think we're far enough ahead to rest a bit." Kira said as she set down next to me.
"Guys we need to keep going." Nya insisted.
"Nya we've been walking for hours." Kira huffed. "Just a little break and we'll be moving again in no time."
"You guys are such wimps." Nya rolled her eyes and set down finally.
Nya's not the nicest person when she's upset, but it's never been this bad. Something was definitely up with her.
As our eyes adjusted to the dark we could see a bit more than before. My sling had come loose a little and I was trying to fix it but that made my arm hurt more.
"Here Lloyd, let me help." Kira came from behind me and tightened the bandana around my arm. I flinched at first but then it felt a lot better. "Better?"
"Yeah, thanks." I smiled.
We rested a few more minutes before we heard footsteps coming from the other direction. Nya immediately jumped up and began panicking.
"We need to leave, now!" She demanded.
"What's going on?" Kira asked as she got up.
"He's coming, we gotta go." Nya insisted. "I can here footsteps."
"I've only seen the djinn once but I don't remember him having feet." I recalled.
"Maybe it's one of our friends?" Kira suggested.
"We can't risk it we need to leave." Nya screamed.
"Guys!" We heard someone shouting from a distance. The weird thing was her voice sounded exactly like Nya's, except more distraught.
As she got closer, we saw Nya running from the direction we just came from. We looked at the other Nya confused out of our minds.
"Nya?" Both Kira and I questioned.
"Lloyd, Kira, get away from him!" The second Nya pointed to the one we walked here with. "He's an impostor!"
We looked at both of them, not sure what to do.
"It's the djinn! He shape shifted and tricked you guys to going deeper into the cave." The other Nya told us.
"I forgot how cleaver you were Dilara." The first Nya's eyes glowed a dark red and their voice sounded completely different. "I should have locked you up with the rest."
"Well that was your mistake." Nya pulled her weapon. "Now tell me what you did to my fiancé you monster!"
"You'll find out soon enough." The djinn laughed and teleported away.
After he left, Nya dropped to the ground. She looked exhausted like she had been running the whole way just to catch up with us. Kira and I went to help her up.
"Nya, are you ok?" Kira helped her up.
"Yeah I think so." She brushed herself off. "Thanks."
"Where have you been?" Kira asked her. "Did you find the others?"
"I'll explain everything on the way. We don't have a lot of time." Nya said.
Kira and I nodded and we followed Nya as she told us what had happened to our friends. I hoped we could all get out of this somehow.
