Dinner night

Sig POV
I run faster letting the cool air hit my face. I have been ignoring Trenton for a week. For some reason, not a lot of people have been bullying me a lot. I've been staying on low profile. I'm doing my Saturday jog in the cool air of the night. I don't like going in the morning because too many people go in the morning. I stop at a park bench to take a breather and to drink some water. I look up into the night sky trying to find the answer to my problems. I get interrupted when I hear someone walk towards me. I look to see who it is. Just my luck. It's Hayden. He seems different though.

"If your here to rape me don't even bother. I got my phone on speed dial," I tell him holding out my phone.

He chuckles. "I'm not gonna rape you. I take my usual night run here."

"I never see you," I tell him.

"That's cause I took longer than usual," he says.

He takes a seat next to me and I scooch away.

"What happened to Trent?" He asked me.

I look at him confused. "What?"

"He's different now. I hardly have seen him since the party. And you left with him so I'm thinking it was a breakup," he explains.

I gulp. I didn't know Trent stopped hanging out with his friends.

"When was the last time you saw him?" Hayden asks in my silence.

"Uhh Umm..." I say not really wanting to tell him since we weren't exactly friends.

"You can trust me. I know I might've been a jerk. Well I was a jerk. But I'm sorry. I truly just wanted to be friends with you," he says sincerely.

I smile. "Ok we can be friends."

He smiles back. "Can you tell me what Happened?"

My mood automatically goes back down. "Trent and I decided to go to a trampoline park far away. And we stayed the night. We... we slept in the same bed and I thought we became pretty close," I blush from sharing my thoughts.

"We went to IHOP to get some breakfast and our waiter started flirting with him and he seemed to like her too. So I- I got jealous and was telling him how I thought she wasn't right for him and how I was jealous. He got mad that I was being jealous. I mean he had every right I guess to be mad. But then he called me some things and I got mad too because I didn't think he thought of me that way. So I left and I haven't talked to him since," I finish my story wiping away some runaway tears.

I feel Hayden wrap me in a hug and I embrace him back.

"He didn't mean those things Sig," he tells me.

"How do you know?" I ask him.

"Because when I was with him he wouldn't stop talking about you. And obviously if he won't even show his face to me, his best friend, he completely regrets it," he finishes smiling at me.

I think about it. Maybe he's right.

"Thank you Hayden. I think I'm gonna go talk to him," I say smiling and getting up.

He gets up and gives me a hug. "Good luck."

He runs the opposite way as me. I run back towards my house. When I get to the driveway of my house I contemplate on taking a shower or not. I decide I should so I walk inside and am greeted by my mom.

"When did you get home?" I ask her.

She's never home. She smiled at me. "Hi to you too," she walks over and hugs me.

"What's going on?" I ask confused still.

"Ms. Adams is inviting us for dinner tonight," she says playing with her eyebrows.

I gulp. Of course this has to happen. I mean I was gonna talk to him anyways but I was thinking tomorrow.

"You need to get ready," she tells me.

I start to walk upstairs. "Wear something nice, Trent is gonna be there!" My mom yells to me.

I roll my eyes. When I get to my room, I start to take a shower. When I get out I look in my closet. I find a yellow plaid pencil skirt and a plain white button up short sleeve. I leave my hair natural and don't put any makeup on because when have I ever? I put on my vans and grab my phone heading downstairs.

I see my mom already ready. "Where's dad?" I ask her.

"Right here," I see him walk out of my parent's room.

"Let's head out yeah?" My parents intertwine their hands and we walk out. We walk to their house and ring the door. I awkwardly go on my phone just checking my social media. Recently not a lot of hate.

The door opens to Ms. Adams smiling. She looks really pretty with her off the shoulder dress. She recovered fast from the divorce.

"Welcome! Please come in! We invited some other people in the neighborhood so don't worry Dave, you won't be the only guy," Ms. Adams tells my dad making them all chuckle.

"Hey sweetie," she gives me a hug and I hug her back.

" hi Ms. Adams."

"Oh please call my Lucy," she smiles at me.

And I nod. "If you want to go get Trent and tell him dinner is ready, that would be awesome," she smiles.

I push away my other feelings and smile at her and nod.

"His room is upstairs, last room in the hallway."

I make my way upstairs and walk to the last room. I see light creeping out of his room. I knock but there is no answer. I open the door and see Trent with AirPods in listening to music. My heart breaks a little at the sadness in his face. He looks to where I am and I see his mouth open.

"Sig... what are you doing in here?" He asks turning off his music.

I look down at my shoes. "Your mom wanted me to call you down for dinner."

"Oh... okay," he says sadly.

I look up and see he has come very close to me. I hold my breath. Before he could say anything I walk out the room leaving him there... alone. When I walk back downstairs I see the huge table set up. I take a seat and most of the seats around me become taken by adults or maybe even college students. I see Trenton walk down the stairs and look around for a seat. I look around too and realize the only one left is next to me. I quickly focus back to a conversation the people around me were having. I feel Trenton's presence next to me when he pushes his chair in.

"Ahh here's my son, Trenton," Lucy tells everyone at the table.

He awkwardly waves and goes back to swiping through his phone.

"Excuse me Trenton, put your phone away," Lucy tells him sternly.

He rolls his eyes but obeys and puts his phone in his pocket. I haven't dared to make eye contact with him but I can feel him staring at me.

"So, Signa, How has school been for you?" Lucy asks me.

I think about all the trauma I've gone through. I put on a fake smile. "Great, school's great."

I can feel Trenton staring at me when I say that. He knows I'm lying.

"Have you meet my son, Trenton? He goes to the same high school as you I believe," Lucy adds.

I think about us sleeping in the same bed. Us hanging out.

"I've seen him around," I say. I don't want his mom to know that we are in a fight.

"That's great! You guys would be soo cute together!" She smiles brightly at me.

I choke on the water I was drinking and I hear Trenton's fork drop on the floor.

"Are you okay dear?" Lucy asks me kindly.

"Oh yeah I'm fine I just drank too much at one time," I lie.

"Uhh may I be excused? I need to use the restroom," I say.

"Oh yes of course, Trenton show her where it is," she says going into a conversation with my parents.

I look at Trenton and we make eye contact.

"Follow me," he says leading the way to the bathroom.

We walk through the halls until we get to a door.

"That's the bathroom."

"I figured," I say sarcastically back.

I see a hint of a smile from him making me smile a bit.

"Trenton?" I say.

He looks at me. "Mhm?"

"I want you to know that I'm not mad anymore. And I'm sorry, I overreacted," I say honestly.

"No you didn't, I was being a jerk and I'm so so sorry for saying those things. I didn't mean it. I guess I was just so upset with my parent's divorce I took it out on you," he says.

I smile at him. "It's okay I understand. Just please, talk to me if you are going through something. I can help you. It's not good to bottle it in."

He smiles back. "I'll take you on that offer."

I feel myself lean closer to him. I can see how his brown eyes have darkened making my insides churn. He runs a hand down to my waist and pulls me in so close I could feel his breath on my lips. Before he could kiss me, I realize what I'm doing. I'm just falling straight back into his hands. I push myself away from him. I don't dare to look into his eyes.

"Uh I'm gonna go," I walk out leaving him in the bathroom.

When I get back, I already see all the parents drinking wine. I go to my parents.

"I wanna go home," I tell them.

"Okay but make sure to lock up because we will probably be coming home late. Good night sweets," my dad tells me.

I walk to my house and get inside. I lock the door and go upstairs to change into pajamas. I take off my clothes and put on a spandex and a sweatshirt. I lay in bed thinking about what just happened. I know we forgave each other and everything, but I don't want to be the person to fall back into his arms that quickly. I want to take this slow again. I'm interrupted from my thoughts by the doorbell. Huh my parents said they won't be coming back till later. I walk downstairs and open the door only to be greeted by Trenton.

"Can I come in?" He asks.

I think about it. I mean he's already here so I guess. I open the door wider for him to enter.

"What are you doing here?" I ask him.

"I want to talk," he says.

"I thought we already did," I say.

"No, I won't to talk about what happened in the bathroom."

I gulp. But before I can say anything he interrupts me.

"I want to apologize," he says surprising me,

"Why?"

"I should've known you probably already have a boyfriend and that me making a move was way out of line," he tells me.

I smile a little bit. "I don't have a boyfriend."

He looks at me shocked.

"Your not with Chase?" He asks.

"No me and him are just really close," I tell him.

"I didn't kiss you because I don't want you to think that everything can go back to normal. We said things and did things and we should both know that after that, our relationship has to change," I tell him honestly.

"Look, I know I messed up a lot. But can you please give me a chance? I like you a lot, and whatever I said wasn't even true. Can you please give me another chance?" He pleads.

I look into his eyes and see the sincere ness. I smile and nod. He grins. He hugs me tightly.

"Thank you."

"Your welcome," I smile against his chest.
