Chapter 2

Kendra's hair stood on end as she heard yet another twig snap. Her breathing quickened and she moved to the doorway of the large hollow tree trunk, she was fairy-struck, she could handle whoever was there, right? When she heard the footsteps grow closer, she prepared herself to be able to move in case she needed to. When she first caught a glimpse of the person, the first thing she did was send a fist to their stomach, then kicked their knee, forcing whoever it was to fall to their now damaged knees. Her eyes widened and she knelt in front of him when she realized who it was.

"Kendra! You evil little Imp!" Seth yelled as he gripped his knee tightly.

"I'm so sorry!" Kendra said at first, but then felt a twinge of anger. "But next time don't sneak up on me Seth!"

"Hey! I was looking for you! You're the one that ran away!" Seth yelled.

"I didn't think you would find me! Let's just go. I need to tell Grandpa something anyway." Kendra said simply, helping Seth to his feet and walking towards the only way out of the forest area.  The two ran back to the house, Seth jogged upstairs and Kendra knocked on Grandpa Sorenson's study room's door. She opened it after being invited in, Seth walked in with her.

"And what can I do for you Kendra? Seth?" Grandpa asked curiously and absentmindedly as he stood by a bookshelf and read a book.

"Umm, well. . . " Kendra glanced at Seth next to her. "Don't freak out ok?" She whispered to him. She mumbled the words under her breath and the book came out of Grandpa's hands, he stared at his hands for a moment in shock then looked at his book floating in mid-air for a second, and then it dropped to the ground.

"Woah! Do it again!" Seth yelled, Grandpa was still staring at the book, he swallowed hard and looked at the stiff Kendra. She thought it only worked with leaves, she was just gonna tell him the words and stuff, but, it seemed to work on anything, she held her breath.

"Kendra, where did you find this ability?" Grandpa asked, motioning for them to sit down as he paced behind his desk.

"In the woods, isn't it just another fairy ability?" Kendra asked, Seth was practically jumping up and down beside her, probably thinking about all the things they could get into now thanks to her being able to move rocks and such.

"No, it's not, where exactly in the woods?" He urged further.

"South-east from the naiad pond, in a hollow tree stump? Why? Why is all this important?" Kendra asked as she got to her feet. There was a knock on the door behind them. Grandpa sighed but answered the knock.

"Come in!" He called, Kendra could hear a deep breath being taken on the other side of the door. The door slowly opened and Warren pocked his head in with his eyes closed.

"I may or may not have lost the kids." He began, Seth snorted.

"Warren, open your eyes," Grandpa ordered dully. Warren opened his eyes and they widened to the size of saucers.

"Next time, can you two please inform me that you're alive so I don't worry!?" Warren shouted. Kendra shrugged and mainly focused on Grandpa.

"Ok, Kendra, I'll think about this, as of now, leave me to do some work," Grandpa ordered. Kendra nodded and grabbed Seth's arm, leading him out of the room. Warren followed close behind.

"Ok I get that you two are usually better on your own, but you two get into a lot of trouble and it would be really nice if you two would just stay where I can see you and NOT run away?" Warren said. Kendra nodded and ran upstairs with Seth close behind her. Kendra sat on her bed and Seth sat on his.

"Can you do it again?" Seth asked, he was obviously trying not to sound too excited and eager, but he wasn't hiding it too very well. Kendra shrugged and looked at a book on the end table.

"Do you want it to land in your hands or in front of you?" Kendra asked Seth seemed to think about it for a moment.

"In front of me for now, I don't need you taking my head off by accident. . . . . . Or even not by accident." Seth chuckled. Kendra smiled and whispered the words. The book floated up and she forced it to move over a little bit. It was really hard to make it fly in a certain direction. But after a moment she figured out how and made it go quickly at Seth and then stop suddenly in front of him. She was going to have it land on the floor in front of his bed, but she found it funnier to have it land in his lap. She could tell Seth was excited as the book landed on his lap.

"Cool?" Kendra asked. Seth nodded gleefully and then furrowed his brows.

"How come you get to do all the cool stuff!?" Seth asked grumpily all the sudden. Kenda laughed and there was a knock on the door, telling the two that it was dinner time.

~

The dinner table was quiet that night until Granpa spoke up.

"Alright, so earlier today, we discovered that Kendra has a new ability. I once knew a young girl with this same ability, it's very rare in this world-"

"-In this world!? There are other worlds!?" Seth interrupted. Grandma hushed Seth and then let Grandpa continue.

"Yes Seth, I know of many, but one of these is called Lyrian. In this land, there are many odd people with many odd abilities, one of these Abilities is called Edomic. Edomic is the new ability of Kendra's. People with this ability are very rare, and levitating things isn't the only thing you can do. I have called the girl I knew and her friend over, they will be here momentarily. There are portals, that lead to this world, but they are one-way. I want Kendra to go." He finished. An uproar arose, everyone immediately spoke against it until Grandpa stood up to silence them to hear Kendra's opinion.

"What will you tell mom and dad?" Kendra began with questions instead of answers.

"That you've been sent on a Knights of the Dawn mission for a few weeks," Grandpa answered simply.

"How will I get back?"

"You will figure out as you go, my friends should be able to help you with that."

"Who are these friends?"

"Rachel and Jason."

"Can I trust them?"

"Yes, they are very trustable. And I have even sent word to the people on the other side of the portal." Grandpa answered her final question. Kendra was silent for a moment.

"Let everyone say something, but one at a time," Kendra said, everyone seemed Eager to throw their own thing into it. Grandpa looked to his left where Grandma was sitting.

"I don't think it's wise to send our Granddaughter to another world with two people I have never even met. And I don't think her parents will be very pleased if she doesn't come back untouched, or if they find out that we lied to them." Grandma said her part about it and Grandpa looked to his right where Warren was sitting.

"I believe she shouldn't go alone, not without an adult, I have met these two people, and while I trust them, I don't think they're responsible enough to take care of Kendra as they aren't even adults yet. I think Seth should go as well, because who knows, he may be of help with his abilities. And I volunteer for myself to go as well. I'd protect her and Seth with my life if it comes to it." Warren offered.

"I also volunteer to go." Dale chipped in. Seth seemed to light up with glee next to Kendra.

"If it's ok," Seth began calmly. "Id love to go." He said, no longer able to contain the excitement.

"Then it's decided, Kendra goes, and Seth, Warren, and Dale go with her, Along with Jason and Rachel," Grandpa said. Kendra nodded but she couldn't help but feel this bad feeling in the pit of her stomach.

And then the door was knocked on. . . . .
