Four
Everyone let out a breath of relief when they saw the immediate less shallow breaths come from Chase, but Skylar then gently patted his cheek, in a failed attempt to wake him up, sending her into a state of panic.
"Chase, Chase!" She cried out, trying to shake his exhausted, unconscious body. "Why isn't he waking up? What's wrong?"
"Skylar, he's fine. He just needs some rest." Oliver told her, gently pulling her away by the shoulders while Kaz draped a couple blankets on Chase's legs and chest, since the plane was getting increasingly colder, and even with the doors closed, they knew it was gonna be freezing when the sun set.
"How's Chase doing?" Dr. Moore asked with a tense voice.
"He passed out." Bree replied. "But the tube is in place and his breathing is a lot less shallow."
"Good, that's very good. But, we're not out of the woods yet. Do you have a thermometer to check his temperature with?"
"No thermometer." Oliver replied. "But he's burning up. We couldn't find syringes with medicine in them, the out was only half full."
"There needs to be more. Even a private plane should have much more medical supplies then that."
"I'll go look again." Kaz replied, standing up before heading to the back of the plane.
"His fever is making me really worried." Bree admitted. "I'm afraid he'll have seizures if we don't get it down."
"Agreed." Dr. Moore replied. "You need to get that fever down. Do you have a source of water?"
"I have half a bottle of water left." Bree replied as she glanced at the half empty bottle just a few inches behind her.
"Is there anything you can use to keep him cool?"
"No, just the water." Oliver sighed.
"Just keep him cool. See if you can find a few washcloths or paper towels and get them wet, and try not to cover him up so much."
"It's getting really cold in the plane, what if he gets hypothermia?"
"That won't happened." Dr. Moore assured. "Just keep his clothes light, but not enough to catch a cold. His fever is troubling me more."
"Found it!" Kaz emerged triumphantly with a third medical kit, setting it beside Bree as she opened it.
"There's a saline drip in here." Bree realized. "I could try to get it in, and at the least, it should keep Chase's strength up."
"Have you ever inserted a IV before?" Dr. Moore asked in concern.
"No, but I've never stuck a needle in anyone, let alone my brother's, lung before."
"Well, if you're up for trying, I'll guide you through it. You want to find a good vein, either in his hand or the crook of his elbow. Do you know how to do that?"
"Well, from what I've seen before on Untold Secrets Of The ER and read on Google." Bree started before looking g at the looks on her teammates faces. "What? This stuff is interesting."
"Well, as long as you save Chase, I won't hold it against you." Oliver replied as Bree returned to the task at hand.
"I've got one. I should be able to put it in, plus, since he's unconscious, if I get it wrong, he won't feel it."
Dr. Moore laughed quietly in the background. "Good bedside manners."
"Hey, unconscious patients can't complain." Bree smiled back before putting the IV in Chase's hand on the first try, Dr. Moore's calming voice guiding her in the background.
"Good job." Skylar whispered, making Bree blush as she placed the medical tape over the needle.
"I'm still debating on whether or not to become a doctor when I get older or not." She admitted.
"Well, you're always welcome to come work for me, Bree." Dr. Moore replied, making her blush more before turning her head to her unconscious brother.
"Only if the patients aren't friends or family." She replied in a whisper before she realized what just took place, feeling her stomach cramp up. "Oh gosh."
She leaned up against the seat, breaking into a cold sweat as Kaz sat beside her, rubbing her shoulder as she took in the IV and the tube she just put in her little brother.
"You're OK." Kaz whispered.
"I could've killed him." Bree chocked as Kaz helped her to one of the seats, knowing that she needed to be supported if something happened.
"But you didn't. Are you in any pain?" He asked gently, since she was the only one who was also right beside the explosion as she shook her head.
"Just my head and ears a bit. The blast."
Oliver draped a blanket over her, trying to calm her down while reclining the seat. "Why don't you get some rest? We'll make sure Chase is OK."
Bree nodded as she fell asleep, holding Skylar's hand to keep her hand in her sleep.
"Is Bree OK?" Dr. Moore asked.
"I'm not sure." Oliver admitted. "She's moving on adrenaline right now, but I think she's hurt too, even if she won't admit it. But we'll keep a eye on her."
"Her head? Ears?" Doctor Moore asked.
"I think so."
"Just don't let her sleep too deeply, she might have a concussion." Dr. Moore explained as Kaz knelt down beside Chase before asking quietly.
"Will Chase be OK?"
"If his fever goes down." Dr. Moore assured him. "Why don't you get some rest as well, Kaz? You sound like you need it."
Kaz smiled, but sleep is the last thing on his mind, with his girlfriend and best friend only second to Oliver were down. He knelt down beside Chase again and gently places his hand on his forehead, checking for a fever, only to look up at Oliver's troubled face.
They were far from OK.
