Entry Three:
Now as the King reclined, soldiers burst into his quarters, and ordered him up. They forced him out of bed and into the hall in nothing but his sleeping garments. The King felt the shame and swore to kill them all as they marched him towards his throne room.
How dare they do that to their King!
Roughly, they shoved him into the room and shut the door behind him accompanied by the loud, clanking sound of the lock. As it was still dark, and the moon hidden behind the clouds, the throne room was dark and cold. He looked around for a servant to put the fire on, but there was nobody but him in the room. Bewildered, the King looked around and saw a shadow flicker at the end of the room, by his throne. He walked towards it slowly, curious, and slightly fearful as he had no armour on, was far into his years to be aware of everything, and had no weapon on hand.
As he looked again, he saw the shadow flicker once more. Now as he was closer, he slowed down, and looked around.
"Hello? Whoever it is, I suggest you stay right where you are!" He ordered, but nobody responded.
Perhaps it was just an animal, he thought to himself, just as he heard a slight whisper around him. Like the enemy's laugh, it was flimsy and mocking.
"I demand you show yourself this instance!" The King yelled, thoroughly angered.
"Oh, My Lord." A voice said, just as the figure stepped into the light. The old woman, with her gnarly hands and withered cane, stepped forward.
The King taken aback, widened his eyes in alarm. "You? It can't be! I had you killed, I saw the life slowly seep from you!" The King insisted, attempting to understand how it is she could stand before him just as he saw her, earlier in the day.
"And you sound so proud of this fact." The old woman spat, her lips snarling and her eyes shining with some strange ethereal light.
The King smiled in delight. "If I killed you once, I could do it again." He flicked his hand.
"Correction," The old woman said slyly, and walked towards him. "You had me killed, and now you don't have your guards to do it, so you can stop waving your hand around."
She stepped even closer to him and looked at him in disgust. "You had me killed; you took my children away from me! Who will they have now? They will be nothing but servants just like me when they grow up. How dare you!"
"How dare I what?" The King interjected, just as somebody began to bang on the door.
The old woman's eyes flicked towards the door once and they seemed to shine with glee from what they knew. "How dare you decide who is worthy of life and not!"
She took a deep breath and turned away from him. If the King had had his sword, he would've ended her life once more. Alas, he had no weapons, and so he stood still, as the banging outside the door grew louder. The old woman walked towards the throne and sat on it.
