Entry One:
One night, just as the King had gone to rest in his chambers, soldiers, their weighted chainmail and heavy boots sounded down the hall as they headed directly to his quarters.
The King was exhausted and not alert as he should've been, as the day had been tiring. He had sent for the witches and wizards in all the Kingdom to come and advise him in the way that he should go. His son and royal adviser, Philip McDowell was a splendid adviser, but he simply had no knowledge with the ways of the ancient powers.
All of them, the best of the best arrived that day at noon, ready to be of service to the King. The first that the King saw added no new knowledge to him, he found them useless and he had the guards send them away. This went on for a few more of the sorcerers, until the King had almost lost faith. But alas, an old woman with gnarly hands rested on an old wooden cane stepped forward and bowed before the King.
"May I be of service to you, My Lord?"
The King nodded, and the guards marched her into the room. The Throne Room was large and spacious, and the King sat upon the high throne at the very end of the room. The old woman stepped forward and went directly to the King's feet, unlike the other sorcerers who stood before him much nearer to the doors. Behind her, a long red carpet sprawled and led to him, much as a trail of blood or tears would.
"What knowledge do you have that I deserve?" The King's voice boomed through the throne room, and the guards behind the door shivered in fear.
The woman bowed her head respectfully and murmured, "My King, oh so gracious and merciful, I have some troublesome news for you."
"What is it that you find troubling?" The King asked gruffly.
"My Lord, today morning as I was preparing for this journey, I received a message from the higher powers. They came to me in a vision and this is what they said."
The King watched as the woman's head rose and her eyes shined bright- brighter than they were before. In a much stronger and demanding voice, she opened up her mouth and spoke.
"Oh ye King that does not take heed to our warnings. The opposing forces are upon us, and they mean to destroy this kingdom. If you value your people, you shall listen to my commands:
On the eve of the Sabbath, before the sun sets, you are to take your firstborn son and take him on a journey to the forbidden forest. You shall not tell him where you are going, and in the case that he sees and is afraid, you are to tie him up and bring him into the forest. With you, you will have a knife and a newborn lamb. If you do not kill your son, and leave the lamb to die, there will be consequences for your actions, and you and your Kingdom shall truly suffer.
Take heed to our warnings, Oh Great King. For we do not frolic."
The woman's eyes dimmed, and her mouth closed as she dropped her head once more.
