THIRTY-SIX: Greta
Sebastian walked to the store. Ivy was working and the boys were in school. Football season just started and things were getting hectic. He just got off the phone. He didn't know what to do. Ivy was hanging fall decor. "Let me know if you need anything." She was turned around.
Sebastian smiled. "I need sex." He smiled.
Ivy laughed. "You are the first one to say that! I can help with that later, Sir." She turned and wrapped around Sebastian.
"Well, I just got a call from my mother. She wants to come for a visit which means she already has the tickets and will be here tomorrow." He sighed.
"Well, shit!" Ivy sighed and sat down.
Ivy broke the news at dinner.
"How does grandma feel about gay people?" Cooper asked Sebastian.
"I don't know. It never came up!" Sebastian sighed. "Ivy? Anything?"
Ivy sighed. "No. I don't know."
"She is on the plane now." Sebastian just got a text.
"Well, I had a crappy day today and this doesn't help! I don't want to make your grandma hate you, Cooper!" He covered his face and groaned in frustration. He dropped his hands. "I can't break up another family!" He was disappointed. This day sucked.
"First, Stupid English class. Man I hate that teacher! Then another anti gay person. It's not like we are doing porn or anything. I just love Cooper. Why is that wrong?" Jake was frustrated and left for his room.
Dinner was quiet. Cooper figured that Jake wanted to be alone. Cooper opened the bedroom door. "Hey, I can go sleep in my room tonight. I know you're upset." Cooper was worried too. Jake shook his head and pulled Cooper into his room and locked the door. He just wrapped around Cooper and sighed. Jake felt Cooper relax also.
"I have never met your grandma." Jake was scared.
Cooper nodded. "She is usually fun and I look forward to her visits. But this...I am terrified. This sucks. Why should it matter?"
Jake sighed. "I don't know, Cooper."
"Her name is Greta and her husband is funny. His name is Bert. He is military. He won't be pleased!"
Jake laughed. "They don't know about the baby either!" Cooper lost it. "We are destroying lives, one person at a time!"
Cooper smiled. "That is on Sebastian and Mom."
"Your Grandma will freak." Jake was watching this. "How would a normal person respond to this situation?"
"Jake, I have no idea. I am part of it. Not normal. Ask your parents!" He stopped. "Jake! I didn't mean... I meant they were normal!"
Jake smiled. "I got the joke, Cooper. It was funny. Easy. Okay? Are you okay?"
Cooper just laughed and shook his head. "No, no where close to okay, Jake. Love me?"
"Always." Jake slid his hands down his man's body and sighed. They didn't talk and Jake made love to Cooper and they fell asleep.
Someone was knocking on the door. "Greta is here." Ivy took a breath.
Jake cursed and Cooper sighed. Jake pulled Cooper closer and kissed his neck. "I'm staying. I'm here for you." He whispered it.
Cooper nodded. "Thanks. Come out when you're ready. I hate this but I have to get up." He rubbed Jake's arms. He slowly crawled out of bed. Cooper threw clothes on and left first. He stepped out and closed the door. He could see his grandma from the short hall. He cleared his throat.
"There he is!" Greta wrapped her arms around Cooper and kissed his cheek. "Good morning!"
"Grandma, how was your flight?" Cooper was nervous.
Greta scensed the nerves. "Good. How are you? Cooper. I know your dad passing is a loss to all of us and I am sorry. I wanted to give your mom some time to grieve. Are you okay?" She touched his hair.
Cooper nodded. "I am getting better." Jake walked in. He sat. He watched Greta. She was pretty for an older lady. She was tall like Cooper and thin. She had silver, grey hair and laugh lines by her eyes. He hoped she had a sense of humor. She was wearing a very nice pant suit.
"Grandma, this is my best friend, Jake. This is my grandma, Greta. Where is Bert?"
Greta smiled. "We are on a break. Just needed some time to think. You know, relationships are tough. Just wait until you start dating." She looked at Cooper. "You are a beautiful boy. You should have girls all over you!"
"I don't. They don't find me that interesting." Cooper wanted to just say it. His eyes darted to Jake.
"Well, there is college. Find a more sophisticated woman. One that knows how to please a man!" Greta smiled.
Cooper inhaled. "Grandma, I'm gay!"
Everyone was silent. Greta looked around. "What?"
Cooper stood taller. "I'm gay. I don't like girls."
Greta nodded. "Well, why didn't you just say so. Here I am rambling on about girls! Well, good for you! Any boys?" She wasn't shocked.
"You are okay with this?" Cooper asked.
Greta smiled. "I knew you were gay since you were...eleven.. Maybe eight. You hung out with that boy all the time. I just figured you knew."
Cooper laughed. "Oh, Grandma! I had no clue! Uh, I am seeing Jake." He pointed at Jake.
Greta smiled. "You're Jake. The best friend?" She winked.
"I'm his boyfriend." Jake stood up.
Greta laughed. "Well, of course you are gay, you are just gorgeous! What a delicious specimen of a man!" She touched his chest and rubbed.
"Grandma!" Cooper walked over. "Uh, he's mine." Cooper wrapped around Jake.
Greta smiled. "You are just the perfect couple and you have excellent taste, Cooper. Wow! If you weren't my grandson, I would hit on you too! You are both very handsome and I am getting a picture to frame!" She winked. "Is there breakfast?"
Ivy just laughed and shook her head. "We can go to a diner."
"Love it. Sebastian?" She looked around. "Where is he?" Sebastian walked in with luggage. "There you are!"
"Mom! This is a lot of luggage for a week." He dropped it in a pile.
Greta sighed. "I...we broke up and I walked out. I just need somewhere to stay for a little bit! I didn't want to be alone!"
Sebastian sighed. They were going to keep the baby news from her altogether. She is staying. No! Sebastian smiled. "Great!"
Greta smiled. "So, there are more secrets. I know that Cooper is gay. What else?" She glared at her son. "What have you been up to?"
Sebastian looked down. Greta laughed. "This must be good. Let's eat. We can dig through your mistake later." She grabbed her purse and Jake and walked out. Jake looked at Cooper and Cooper shrugged. He followed them.
Greta was staying in Cooper's room downstairs since Cooper clearly wasn't using it. Most of his stuff was in Jake's room and neither of them noticed. Cooper hadn't slept in his room since Jake came to live with Sebastian. Cooper was practically living with Jake. Jake was good with it. Cooper tried to reassure Greta that he would sleep on the couch but she just laughed. She knew better.
I absolutely love Greta!!!
