FIFTEEN: Ed
Cooper was tied to a chair in the middle of an empty room. It was carpeted. He had no idea where he was and he was getting worried. No one had hurt him yet but they did knock him out on his way to the party.
He never made it and his driver didn't know either. It had been a couple of hours. Other than a headache, he was unharmed.
No one talked to him or answered his questions. He had no idea why he was there. He overheard something about his uncle but only his name. He figured they just wanted money.
He looked around. There were seven guards with guns and one guy bossing them around. He was the leader, clearly.
Cooper was worried because these were big guys. Strong and muscled. He wondered what would happen. Maybe the cops would charge in, guns blazing or sneak in through the vents to rescue him, like James Bond.
Probably neither of those things. A horrifying thought hit him. He could die here. He would die tied to this chair and he would never see Jake. His mom! Shit. Jake was his first thought. He was scared for Jake now. He wanted to see Jake one last time. He loved Jake.
Ivy had a question. "Do they know for sure that you are a vampire or is this a guess?"
"We're not actually sure, Ivy. They could be guessing. They asked for it and they are getting it." Sebastian was pissed. They just fucked with the wrong vampire when they fucked with his nephew.
Ivy tried to calm him. She gave up. "Just get Cooper back alive and unharmed, Sebastian or I will pull your teeth out!" She glared at him.
He took her face in his hands. He just fell in love with her. He kissed her. "That is a promise, Ivy."
"Maybe try to be normal first. Try to convince them that you aren't a vampire first? If they don't know for sure, they may not kill a regular person! Maybe." Ivy saw his expression. "Then, if that doesn't work, do it your way."
Chase smiled. "This is so sweet!" He looked at Sebastian in the mirror. He could tell his friend was smitten and ready to try things Ivy's way, anything for her.
Sebastian glared at the mirror. Chase laughed as they pulled into the parking lot.
The address was in a business office. Rows of them. Suite 112 was a dentist office and Ivy thought that was ironic because she just threatened to take Sebastian's teeth. There should be a tooth joke in there somewhere. She wanted to laugh at that and tried to push away all of the bad images she had of Cooper. She was scared they killed him or worse.
They parked and walked. Ivy stayed with Sebastian as promised and Chase went around and waited. They wouldn't be expecting two vampires. Chase was back up.
Two men were guarding the door. Sebastian was going to try Ivy's way. No teeth. He walked up with Ivy. His hands were up in surrender. "I received a call? I'm Sebastian."
The guards opened the door and one ushered them both inside. He walked them to the back room at gunpoint. Ivy saw Cooper tied to a chair and forgot everything. She rushed to him and hugged him.
"Mom!" Cooper was relieved to see her and scared she would get hurt. His uncle was there. He looked calm.
"You hurt, Cooper?" Sebastian asked.
"I'm okay." Cooper was better now.
The bad guy stepped between Ivy and Sebastian and he didn't like that. He had to push the vampire back. He was out for blood at the second. This guy was in danger and had no idea. Sebastian noted that all of the hunters were armed. Ivy and Cooper were in serious danger.
Sebastian would have laughed if his family wasn't here. Bullets did nothing to stop him. He hated that humans tried to step beyond what they were capable of, it was just trouble.
These people had no idea what a vampire could do, clearly. That was to his advantage. He really didn't want to educate them.
These crazy fanatics didn't know anything and had no interest in learning either. Regina, their boss, had tried to teach them but it was a failure. They just wanted war.
"You're the vampire?" The leader asked.
Sebastian shook his head. "No. You should be careful what you ask for, you might get it!" He took a breath and looked at Ivy. "You should know..."
"Enough!" The bad guy just interrupted. The vampire didn't like that either. "I will kill both of them. I need to speak with the vampire. Where is he? I asked for him. Are you him?" The leader wasn't sure. This guy looked normal.
Sebastian looked past the leader to Ivy. "Honey, I tried your way."
"Try harder." Ivy almost had Cooper lose.
"Look man. There is no such thing as a vampire. Really. It's all movies and makeup. I had vampire makeup on for seven hours today! What makes you so sure they are even real?" He watched Ivy. Cooper was free.
"A vampire killed my brother and someone gave me your name! Did you kill my brother?" He was pissed.
"How do you know that it was a vampire?" Sebastian had to ask.
The man glared. "He was drained. No blood was found in his system."
Sebastian sighed. "Fucking movies! Man, what is your name?"
"Ed."
"Ed, vampires, if they were real, don't drain a person dry. That's stupid. They are not hunters and not animals. They siphon energy from people, not blood. Nothing that would kill a person. Vampires don't kill." Sebastian tried harder.
"You have the wrong species. I'm a vegetarian and I'm sustained on energy only. Someone is framing vampires badly. Surely you see that?" Sebastian was trying to be gentle. Ivy's way.
"I don't want to hurt you. I have never harmed anyone. This is my family and I will hurt you to save them and keep them safe. Release them and we can talk. Maybe work together to find the real killer." He tried.
Ed sneered. "Them?" He cocked his rifle. "I will kill them both!"
"Bad move, Ed." Sebastian was ready to let the vampire go. "Ed, you should have let them go and there will be an investigation into your brother's death. You have my word. You can help once you wake up." Sebastian smiled.
Ed shook his head. "Vampires lie! That is what they told me!"
"Probably true. Humans lie also. Right?" Sebastian smiled. Ed looked stumped. "But I won't lie. It's a choice. I choose not to lie! You will meet some good people once you wake up."
Ed pulled the trigger and Ivy knew they were dead. Sebastian was between them and took the bullet. He would be fine. He took the rifle and knocked Ed in the head with the butt of the rifle. He was sprawled on the floor, knocked out.
Chase was there. He took out the two guards at the door. He took their energy and left them sleeping. Sebastian had four left on the inside. He just took their energy to stop them. They would need an IV and some electrolytes. They would be fine. He wouldn't be able to be human for a while, a few hours. This was a lot of food.
Ivy was holding Cooper behind her, she was ready to take the bullet for her son. Sebastian was there. She was sure he was dead and she was scared. She saw him rush two guards and put his hand on their faces, they turned pale and slid to the floor.
The other guards fired at Sebastian but he was there and the men were down like the others. She didn't see Sebastian move but he was standing by the men.
Ed had started to move. He moaned. Sebastian looked at Chase. "Chase, your mind. I'm full!" He smiled.
Chase touched Ed and he was out.
Sebastian sighed. He had to deal with Ivy and Cooper. They were going to be terrified and freaked out. He turned to face Ivy. She rushed him and jumped on him. She wrapped around him in a huge hug. "Thank you!" She kissed his face.
Cooper followed her with a hug. No kiss though. "That was awesome!" He smiled at his uncle. He looked awesome. "So, not all makeup, huh?"
Sebastian laughed. "No. You okay?"
"I'm fine. They took me before I could make it to the freaking party!" Cooper was more mad about that more so than being kidnapped and threatened.
"Are you okay?" Ivy was worried about Sebastian.
He looked shocked. "What? I'm fine! Are you okay?"
Ivy nodded. She turned to Cooper. "Are you okay, Honey?" She was checking him over.
"I'm okay, Mom. Don't call me honey!" Cooper hated that word.
Sebastian couldn't help himself. "Why? Does Jake call you honey?" He smiled.
Ivy laughed.
Cooper turned red. "No! Shut up!"
Ivy had to hold her stomach she was laughing so hard.
Chase was just staring at these people. He didn't get the joke. He was shocked that they were laughing. "So, are we good?"
Sebastian nodded. "Yes. You okay, Chase?"
Chase smiled. "Hell yes! I won't have to eat for days!"
"Me either." He gave Chase a half man hug. "Thanks." Sebastian smiled. "Oh!" He pulled his phone and pushed a button.
"Regina. Ma'am." He paused. "Good. Emily informed you. Thanks. We have a different situation to discuss. Ed's brother was drained of blood and killed. Ed was sent to me."
Sebastian nodded a couple of times and agreed. "Yes. We need to clean up. Thanks." He pushed the end button. "They are almost here and they are looking into Ed's case."
He looked at Ivy. "I'll explain later." He looked around. "Oh. They are fine, just knocked out. Nothing that an IV of fluids can't fix. I mean they will have wicked a headache when they wake up but they're otherwise unharmed." As promised. He looked at Cooper on purpose. "Vampires never kill people, Cooper. Okay?"
Cooper nodded. "Okay. So, Vampires are real?"
Sebastian smiled a very sharp smile.
"So cool!" Cooper smiled. "So, on set?"
Sebastian nodded. "Real. Not many know. There are a few vampires on the crew."
"The makeup lady?" Ivy smiled.
Sebastian nodded. "You are perfect, Ivy. Yes. Her and Emily, you know that. I'm not going to out my coworkers. Just know that we are out there and there is no danger from us." He wanted to restate that.
Ivy nodded. "I should have brought my pills!"
Cooper nodded. "I need one!"
Sebastian smiled. "Me too!" Ivy just shook her head and smiled.
