Chapter 18 ━━ Better Man

Caroline's mom is now turning better and Lorna didn't see Kai after the merge. Stefan and I are now on good terms, thank god for that. 

She throws herself on the couch, after decorating the house for Bonnie's birthday with Damon according to Caroline's commands. Stefan slipped himself out, but Damon and she got caught for the decorations. 

"Hey." Elena walks inside.

"Hi." Damon and Lorna greet in unison.

Elena takes off her jacket and sees the cupcakes. "Ooh. You think we could sneak one before the party?"

"I think Caroline might fry us in the sun." Damon says, making the blonde chuckle.

"It's worth the risk." Elena takes a bite of the cupcake Damon is holding out to her.

"Come here." Damon wipes some frosting from her lips and licks his fingers.

"You know, we never talked about the fact that you kissed me." Elena says.

"And you kissed me back?" Damon takes a bite of the cupcake. "Yeah. I know. That's the whole point of kissing so you don't have to talk about it."

"Right. Well, I just wanted you to know that I'm good with that." Elena says.

"Yeah?"

"Yeah. We-we're good. Really good. Ha." Elena smiles.

"Was this the talk?" Damon questions.

"Pretty much." Elena replies.

"Perfect." Damon leans in to kiss Elena.

"No PDA, please." Lorna requests even though she knows that they're going for the show off anyway. As she expected, they ignore her and continue their leaning in, making her groan and bury herself into the sofa, hoping it'll swallow her whole.

"Hello?" She hears Kai calling from the front door. She must be dreaming. Damn her. Why can't she think about something else other than that sociopath?

"No. That's impossible because why would he..." Elena trails off, making her assume that she heard it too.

Damon is still closing his eyes hoping. "He didn't. He's all merged, he's packed, and he's on his way to Portland!"

Kai walks inside. "Ooh! Forgot how massive this house was." He smiles as he notices the cupcakes. "Yum! Cupcakes!"

"Hi." He smiles up at the blonde and turns to Damon and Elena who are still in the on-the-way-to-kiss-eachother position. "Sorry. Am I interrupting something?"

"Yeah. We're going to have a threesome party. Wanna join?" Damon asks Kai annoyingly.

Kai smirks and looks at the blonde. "If Lorna's joining, I'm in."

Lorna gives Kai a disgusting look, making him smirk wider. 

"Alright. What are you doing here?" Damon asks.

"Funniest thing. I need your help." He takes out a letter.

"Why would we give a letter to Jo?" Elena asks.

"I haven't been able to find her using a locator spell, and, you know, good on her because under normal circumstances, I'd be super jazzed to gouge out her belly button." He eats the frosting on the cupcake with his finger.

"Why would we help you, Kai?" Elena asks.

"Well, in case you haven't figured it out by now, I'm a sociopath." Kai says and Elena pretends to be shocked.

"I know. Shocker. I like being a sociopath. You know, I'm not burdened by things like guilt or love. So then this merge happened with my brother Luke, and I won, which was great because I absorbed his ability to do magic, but now I can't stop thinking about how Luke died, how Liv's life is ruined. For some horrible reason, I can't shake how badly I feel about it." Kai sighs in frustration.

Elena looks at him surprised as the blonde. "You feel bad?"

"Yes. So when I absorbed Luke's magic, I must have gotten some of his qualities or something like empathy. So I googled how to process emotional pain, and they said if you write everything down in a letter and burn it, you'll be healed. So I started writing, and this water literally started pooling in my eyes. Has that ever happened to you, like-like water just-just oozing out of my eyeballs like I'm some alien creature excreting fluids." Kai explains.

"You mean you cried." Elena asks.

"Yes! And after that was done, I burned the letter, and the feelings-oop- were still there. So, I really feel strongly that Jo needs to know how sorry I am for destroying our family, but let's face it, guys, all right? I mean, Elena, you of all people should be willing to look past the questionable things that I've done to see that there's-there's good somewhere in me. You did it with Damon." Kai explains and glances at the blonde like he's making sure that she's listening to him as well.

"People don't just change like that." Elena says.

"People usually don't merge with their siblings either." Damon adds.

"Uh, for the record, I would have been fine with any of Luke's qualities, you know, the hair, the whole gay thing... you know, maybe not the height actually." Kai says and Elena looks like she's thinking deeply about Kai's pretty little explanation. 

"You seriously buy this?" Lorna asks her, shaking her head. "I have seen this side of him before, Elena. Don't let him get into your head. Don't trust a guy that changed personalities overnight, especially when he's good at faking it."

"Think of it like Elena in reverse." Kai argues. "You know, she was human, pure, dating the good Salvatore. Then she became an undead blood vacuum, stopped caring about right and wrong, and started dating the bad one."

Elena looks irritated. "It's not how it happened."

Kai says and takes a bottle of bourbon. "Hmm. I'm sure I missed a detail or two, but I'm just paraphrasing what Damon told me in the prison world."

Lorna gives him a look and he sighs and looks directly at her. 

"Okay. You know that I don't have the best when it comes to the whole being nice thing. Can I talk to you? Alone?" He requests her nervously.

"No." Lorna answers, making his face fall. Ignoring Kai, she turns to Elena and Damon. "I'll be back on time. I need to make sure that Bonnie's gonna be getting dressed up for a party." 

Kai looks surprised at her. "Is it Bonnie's birthday?"

Lorna rolls her eyes, ignoring Kai and gives Damon and Elena a smile, turning to leave. But she stops as she hears Kai groaning in pain. She quickly turns back to discover that Kai's shirt starts having blood on it. Elena and Damon look shocked as well. "Kai?"

Elena tries to walk to Kai, revealing that she's trapped by a boundary spell along with Damon. "What's going on?" 

Suddenly, Liv appears behind him with a fire iron in her hands and she drives it through Kai's stomach.

Kai yells in pain and drops into the floor.

"No! What are you doing?!" Lorna yells where Liv uses her magic to throw both her and Kai across the room.

Kai laughs. "Dang, sis. That was harsh."

"Shut up!" Liv yells angrily and she starts using a pain infliction spell on him.

"Aah! Agh!" Kai yells in pain.

"Phasmatos." Liv begins her spell. Before Liv can do anything, Kai quickly uses his magic to throw a fork into her throat. "Aah!"

Kai stands up and grabs a bottle. "Haha. Ha. Ahh. It's all coming back to me, Livvie poo."

She pulls out the fork. 

"You know, the charge..." He casts the liquid in the bottle out of her.

"Stop it, Kai!" Liv yells.

Kai continues. "That races through your bones..."

Liv shouts. "Stop it!"

"At the prospect of watching someone burn to death?" Kai throws the glass bottle away and smiles. "I really missed that feeling." He takes a burning candle and walks toward her.

"Just kill me, Kai. You already killed my best friend. So just do it. Get it over with." Liv says.

Kai struggles to kill her. "Why can't I do this? I don't care about you. Why can't I kill you? Come on. Kai, do it. Do it." He slaps himself on the head repeatedly and shouts. "Come onnnnn! Kill her!"

"Motus!" Liv uses magic to throw a fork into Kai's chest.

"Ugh!" Kai falls to the ground.

Lorna grabs a butter knife and throws it into Liv's shoulder. And quickly help Kai inside the kitchen. Kai wheezes wounded. "I'll take care of her. Get yourself out here."

"Lorna, look at me. I'm half-dead. I can't go anywhere." He complains of being the annoying baby he is.

"Heal yourself, you moron." She glares at his stupidity. "Use your shit of magic."

He smiles even though he's in pain. "I'm too weak to use magic."

Lorna observes his wounds as he stares at her. She sighs and cups his face. "Fine. I'll heal you."

He suddenly takes her hands into his and begins to stroke her palms from his hands. "You have really nice palms."

She gives him a confused look, and Kai smiles at her once again making her roll her eyes.

Liv searches for Kai around the house. "Kai! Get out here!" She pushes a table on the floor. "You can't hide from me!" 

"Stay here, okay? I'll be back." Lorna demands him, making him nod. She gets up from the hiding spot and walk back to the living room revealing herself to Liv. "Hey there. Just a fact here. Gemini coven people suck." 

"Motus." She spells, making Liv throw backwards and hit her head on the wall, making her fall to the floor unconsciously. Elena walks forward and finds out that the boundary spell is down.

"You okay?" Damon asks.

"Yeah." Lorna nods, but as she remembers about Kai, she vampire speeds to the kitchen as Damon and Elena follow her. She sits in front of Kai who is on the floor unconscious. 

"Oh, Kai. Kai. Hey, Kai. Wake up." She slaps Kai's cheeks, trying to wake him up. "Kai, hey! Damn it!" 

She places her shaking hands above Kai and recites a spell to revive him.

"En Dugas, Tuas, Animos!" She chants the spell and his wounds start to heal completely. But he doesn't wake up.

"Come on, I have done this spell before. You have to be okay now." She starts to panic and shake him.

"You can't die! Get up!" She begins to pound on his chest as he remains unmoving where she cries out. "Kai!"

Damon places his hand on my shoulder, giving her an assuring look.

Suddenly, Kai starts to laugh, making them look at him. This moron has been faking all this time. 

Lorna's anger starts to boil inside her, making her want to rip his throat out of him, so he won't be able to laugh anymore. She gets up and kicks him several times with her vampire speed, making him groan in pain.

"Hey, wait! I'm sorry!" He yells, but she ignores him and walks away.
