Chapter 8
Error lay in the kennel silently. The house was quiet, like the Anti-Void, but every once in awhile, a creak could be heard from one direction. He sat there, feeling alone as he did in the Anti-Void so many years ago. What would happen to him now? Was he to remain a dog forever? If so, the multiverse is doomed. He knew that Ink will continue to create, and the multiverse would get so crowded, it would eventually collapse in on itself. And Ink? He would forever blame Error for the destruction because he assumes nothing he does can ever create this much carnage. Typical.
Error jolted as a portal opened in front of the couch. Out walked Ink, and Error watched as he knelt down in front of the kennel.
"Hey, Cinnamon. Thoughtcha might need some company! I know it must be hard to be alone. I should know; I hate being alone. It's.... scary."
Ink crossed his legs and opened the kennel door. Error remained where he was, fearful Ink would try to, like, attack him, or something. Ink's expression turned sad.
"It's ok, boy. You're ok."
He put his hand in the kennel and stroked Error's ears. 'Great,' Error thought. 'This is just great! I have no idea how to handle this situation, and Ink has no idea it's me! What will happen if he finds out?!'
"C'mon, Cinnamon," Ink said as he carefully picked Error up. "You must eat something. If you don't, you could die!"
Error rolled his eyes at that. He's never needed to eat before, so this should be no different. Ink, however, would not take no for an answer. He carried the pup to the dog bowls he set out and put Error down in front of them. Error looked down at the bowls, then back up at Ink.
"Here, Cinnamon. Have some food. It's delicious, you should try some!"
Ink patted the bowl, trying to coax Error into eating it. Seeing no other choice since Ink was stubborn, Error carefully approached the bowl. He sniffed it, hoping to detect any poison so he could avoid eating it. Smelling nothing, he took one kibble and chewed it.
'Hmm, not as bad as I thought...'
He ate some more, until there was nothing left. Ink beamed and clapped his hands in excitement. Finally! Cinnamon was eating! Now, to get him to drink some water.
"Here, Cinnamon," he said, pointing to the water bowl.
"Try some water. It's good, too!"
Error went over to the water bowl, and sniffed it cautiously. Is he serious?! How does he even get any of it in his mouth?! He looked up at Ink, but nearly bolted away at the excited look Ink gave him. He looked like a child getting a long-coveted Christmas gift before Christmas. Error started breathing heavily in a panic, his ears and tail turning down, and whimpered in fear.
Ink grew worried. Cinnamon looked like he couldn't get enough air, and his tail was between his legs. His ears were swept down on his head, and he was shaking. Ink reached a hand out to the dog, but Cinnamon immediately ran.
"W-wait! Cinnamon, come back!"
He stood up and walked over to the other side of the kitchen island. Cinnamon had huddled into a corner beneath the cupboards, still shaking in what seemed like a panic. Ink cautiously walked up to him, kneeling in front of the frightened dog with his hands raised in surrender.
"It's ok, little guy. I-I didn't mean to scare you. I'm sorry. Why don't we go and get some water?"
Ink held his hand out for Cinnamon to sniff, just in case he seemed dangerous to the tiny dog. Error just laid there in the corner, scared that Ink would try to hurt him.
'Ugh, this is stupid,' Error thought.
'I may as well get this over with if Ink's gonna be this persistent. Heh, he always was so stubborn."
Ink grinned as Cinnamon stood up and made his way over to him. Ink carefully scooped him up and brought him over to the water bowl, sitting down and placing the dog in front of the bowls again. Error went up to the bowl and stopped. Hmm, how to do this? He didn't exactly have any experience with eating or drinking, though he has seen others do it. First, he tried sipping it up, but ended up choking on it. Ink almost freaked out, attempting to pick Error up. But, the small dog jumped away from him, going back to trying to drink some water. Next, he tried licking some water up, and that seemed to work. At least he didn't choke on it, this time.
Ink sighed in relief.
"Phew. You drank some water, ate some food, and didn't die. You should feel proud of yourself, Cinnamon!"
He petted Error, then stood up. He put a hand to his head, feeling he's forgotten something.
... ... ...
Ink suddenly gasped, making Error jump.
"I've got a meeting to attend! I completely forgot! C'mon, Cinnamon. You can come with as a reward for eating!"
Ink picked Error up and made a portal to Dreamtale.
A few moments earlier....
Dream and Sci arrived in UnderSwap to get Stretch and Blueberry. They knocked on the door to the skelebros' house and was greeted by the blue-clad skeleton.
"OH, HOW NICE OF YOU TWO TO DROP BY! COME IN, DREAM, SCI!"
Blueberry stepped aside for the two skeletons to make their way inside. Stretch had been sleeping on the couch before they came, but awoke when he heard them knock. He got up and stretched, sticking his hands in his pockets.
"Hey Dream. Hey Sci. What brings you guys here?"
"We have come to invite both of you to a meeting," Dream announced. Stretch raised a bonebrow.
"Why not just me? I usually go alone."
"W-well, I need to discuss something with Blueberry," Sci interjected. Stretch narrowed his eyesockets at him in suspicion.
"Why?"
Sci gulped and looked to Blueberry. The two seemed to have a very brief, silent conversation as Stretch stared him down. Blueberry's smile grew strained, and he jumped in between Sci and his brother.
"I WOULD LOVE TO ATTEND A MEETING! WOULD YOU HELP ME MAKE TACOS, SCI? WE CAN SHARE THEM AT THE MEETING!"
Sci breathed a sigh and nodded. Stretch kept his eyesockets trained on the nerdy skeleton as he went into the kitchen with Blueberry. As soon as they were out of sight, Stretch turned to Dream.
"Why the sudden meeting? What has Error done this time?"
Dream turned to him with a worried frown.
"Ink simply felt that we should have a meeting. Apparently, ScienceTale Papyrus 'reminded' him to start one."
Stretch nodded. It wasn't the first time Ink has sprung a surprise meeting out of nowhere. He was a bit like a teacher in that respect; he could pull a pop quiz out of thin air. Pretty literally, too.
Blueberry got out some supplies to make tacos with, and Sci put down his briefcase.
"B-Blueberry?" he tried to get the short skeleton's attention.
"Uh, couldja maybe, settle down for a second?"
Blueberry stopped what he was doing, feeling a bit stressed because of how rarely he got to go to these multiversal meetings. He had had secret meetings of his own with the Bad Sanses, with Error helping him sneak in and out of his AU undetected. But, a meeting with the "good Sanses and Papyruses" was something else entirely. The first time he'd been to one of these meetings was when Error let him go after accidentally bringing him with him to the Anti-Void. The hundreds of Judges had bombarded him with questions, asking him how did Error capture him, how did he escape, does the destroyer have any weaknesses, blah blah blah. He had tried his best to get them to listen to him, but they only allowed him to answer questions. Any time he would try to tell them Error wasn't what he seemed, they would interrupt him or ignore him.
Well, except for Sci.
They both had met the destroyer without being killed. Both of them had seen him for who and what he truly was; a person with feelings forced to do a job he didn't like or even want to do. Problem is, neither of them had the guts to provide some proof that the destroyer wasn't evil. Besides, the "proof" probably wouldn't be enough, anyway.
"SORRY, IT'S JUST.... I HAVEN'T BEEN TO ONE OF THESE MEETINGS IN A LONG TIME." Blueberry sat down at the counter, and Sci followed suit.
"I know. But, I need to tell you something. Y'know how Error doesn't eat or heal properly?"
Blueberry nodded.
"HE EVEN REFUSED ONE OF THE MAGNIFICENT SANS' FAMOUS TACOS!"
"Mhm. I kinda... experimented. I made a potion that I hoped would be a good starting point for Error to begin healing properly, but... it didn't exactly... end well."
Blueberry gasped.
"WHAT HAPPENED?"
"I... I don't know. I haven't seen Error since."
Blueberry remained quiet for minute. Then, he stood up and began making tacos. Cooking helped him relax and clear his head. Sci watched as he did so, but eventually stood up to help. The two finished up the tacos and stacked them all neatly on a couple of large platters. They went into the living room where Dream and Stretch were waiting.
"Ready to go?" Dream asked cheerfully.
Sci looked at the platter of tacos in his hands, then realized he left his briefcase in the kitchen.
"Uh, I'll be right back."
He went to get his briefcase, then came back without the platter of tacos. He facepalmed, and got the platter of tacos.
"Ok, now I'm ready!" He huffed in annoyance. Everybody else chuckled in amusement, then headed to Dreamtale to prepare for the meeting.

Finally! It's been awhile since I last updated, but I got this part out and I feel accomplished. Thanks to a minor incident involving a dog and chocolate, I fell out of inspiration and motivation for over a week. I'm back, though, so yay!
