Chapter 10
Sci told Ink which AU he needed to go to, and the creator opened a portal to MedicTale. Unlike Sci, the inhabitants of this AU specialized in health issues of all types, helping both sides of this "Creation vs. Destruction" conflict. They viewed it all as unnecessary, but helped those who came to them in need simply because it was the right thing to do. One could not see an injured being as a threat if said being was asking for aid, right?
Regardless, Sci was good friends with both the Toriel and Sans of this AU, the Sans' nickname being Med, who ran a large hospital on the surface. Frisk was one of the nurses, and Asgore was in charge of balancing the checkbooks and handling expenses of the hospital. However, Sci needed to see Sans and Toriel for another reason.
The four skeletons and the puppy arrived in the AU and headed for the hospital. They went in and were greeted by Sans himself, who had just finished helping a patient.
"Ah, Sci!" He said cheerfully. "What can I do for ya today?"
Sci cleared his throat and motioned for Ink to come forward. Ink brought Error within sight, and Med cocked his head to the side in curiosity.
"W-well, my friends and I were wondering," Sci began, putting a hand on Ink's shoulder. "D-do you happen to know any veterinarians? This little guy needs some proper, medical attention."
Med tapped his chin in thought. Just as he was about to say he didn't know any, Toriel popped her head out of her office. She was the medical administrator of the hospital, but also took care of patients when they were short-staffed. She strolled up to them in her usual lab coat and put a folder on the counter next to Med.
"Sans, here are the records for your patient. I happen to overhear about your problem, and I know a vet, two actually, who might be able to help. I'll get you in touch with them."
Med smiled.
"Heh, thanks Tori. Welp, I've got some patients to attend to, so cya later, Sci."
Sci chuckled and waved as Med headed over to the elevator with the folder Toriel had gotten for him.
Soon, Blueberry, Dream, Ink, Sci, and Error were on their way to a veterinary clinic on the other side of the business district. Error was very nervous, and was starting to feel funny in his lower body. Almost like a pressure on his stomach. At first, he thought it might be a stomachache, but it didn't get any more painful than a mild and uncomfortable pressure. What did Ink feed him?
Speaking of, the creator was drowning in worry. It would tear him apart if his little Cinnamon was injured badly. He could've prevented it, and he should've smarter. Dream was probably right. He should've taken into account how Cinnamon could react with all the people around him. And he should've left him at home where he could rest so as to not overwhelm him. But, maybe it won't be so bad. Perhaps he was making too big of a deal over nothing. Then again, he's no expert, but he could always hope.
They arrived at the veterinary clinic and walked in. A few people were there, waiting with their pets in the waiting area. Ink went up to the reception desk, and the receptionist looked up.
"May I help you?" She asked. Ink nodded and cleared his throat.
"Y-yeah, uh, th-this is my dog, Cinnamon. I-I need someone to take a look at him."
The receptionist looked at her computer and noted there was an opening in half an hour for Dr. Chara Dreemur.
"I've got an opening for Dr. Dreemur. You can wait in the waiting area and she'll be with you in thirty minutes."
Ink smiled a bit, then turned to leave. The receptionist stopped him.
"Hold on. I need some information about him, first. Do you have some medical records for him?"
Ink looked back at her, confused.
"Uh.... N-no.... I basically just found him like a couple of hours ago."
"Oh, does he have a tag or chip?"
Ink shook his head, once again looking Error over for anything that looked like a tag or a chip. The receptionist sighed.
"Ok, I'll have to ask you a few questions, then. What breed is he?"
"I don't know. What does he look like?"
The receptionist glanced over at Error. He perked up at the attention, feeling slightly selfconscious. She nodded her head, deciding he's some type of Yorkie. Entering the information, she turned back to Ink.
"I'm guessing you don't know his age?"
Ink shook his head. This was weird and almost scary. With so many blanks to fill in, he was scared if he didn't give enough information, the doctor couldn't treat Cinnamon. What would he do, then?
"Alright, I've got the initial info in. Anything else can probably be obtained through a checkup. Is there a specific reason you brought him here? Any complications you've noticed?"
Ink breathed shakily.
"H-he sort of fell off a t-table..." he muttered, looking down and petting Error gently. The receptionist smiled sadly.
"Well, that's certainly good reason to have him checked. Alright, I'll go tell Dr. Dreemur. You can go wait over there." She pointed to a row of chairs and stood up. She disappeared through a door to the back rooms, and Ink went over to wait with the rest of the skeletons.
"SO, WE ARE JUST GONNA WAIT HERE?" Blueberry asked. He had left Stretch to do what he wanted, and his brother is probably wondering where he was. Knowing Stretch, he'll probably freak out until Blueberry got back.
"I could take you back if you want, Blueberry," Dream said. "If you're worried your brother will be wondering where you are, I can open a portal for you to get home."
Blueberry shook his head.
"OH NO, THAT'S QUITE ALRIGHT. I'M SURE PAPY WILL BE FINE WITHOUT ME! BESIDES, I WANT TO MAKE SURE CINNAMON IS OK, TOO!"
Dream grinned and nodded. The rest of their squad sat in silence, waiting. Error looked over at all the over pets as they were taken in to see either Dr. Asriel, Chara's business partner, or Chara herself, the one who started the business in the first place. In a way, Error felt relieved to be seeing a Chara. It brought a sense of normalcy and almost security to this ordeal. He knew Charas weren't specifically evil, they were just a bit... eccentric. Overconfident. And maybe a little crazy. But, this Chara shouldn't be any different from the rest; in fact, she should be nicer, considering she works alongside both humans and monsters to treat their pets.
Finally, it was their turn. Ink stood up, stealing a nervous glance at Dream. The positive guardian nodded to him reassuringly, and Ink nodded back. A new burst of confidence flowed into his bones, and he followed the receptionist to the exam room.
"Dr. Chara will be with you shortly." She said cheerily and left. Ink sat down in a chair and looked around. There were advertisements for medicines and topical ointments for fleas and ticks lined all around the walls. A few cupboards took up the rest of the wall space, situated on the opposite wall of the door. A counter was set up beneath the cupboards, and medical and examination supplies were lined up on it. Ink was grateful for all the stuff in here. If the room wasn't filled with all the different pictures and stuff, it would all be white and bland. He couldn't stand the white, and would rather have it all as colorful as possible.
The door opened, catching Ink and Error's attention. They both looked toward the door as a lady in her thirties walked in. She wore a long, white lab coat chock full of medical supplies, notes, pens, and what looked like a chocolate bar wrapper. She smiled, and Ink stood up with Error in his arms.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Chara," she said, holding her hand out for Ink to shake. He did so after adjusting his hold on Error, and introduced himself.
"H-hi, I'm Ink. This is Cinnamon."
Chara took one look at Error, and furrowed her brows. She motioned Ink to set the dog on the counter. She sat in her rolling chair and scooted close to the counter. Taking out an ophthalmoscope, she held it up to Error's eye. He flinched as she gently put a hand underneath his chin, scanning the eye and frowning. Ink nervously fidgeted with the hem of his sleeve.
"I-is there something wrong?" he asked, watching Chara check Error's other eye carefully. Chara put the device down and turned to Ink.
"Has he had any major injuries recently?" She asked, turning back to feel around Error's tiny body. As uncomfortable as it sounds, she was being gentle, so Error felt at ease. And he was repeating to himself in his mind, over and over again, that Chara wouldn't hurt him even if she knew who he was. It was sort of helping.
Ink rubbed his cheek.
"He sort if... fell off a table. Does that count? What happened?"
"Here, look at his eyes. I was told you found him not that long ago. Were they always like this?"
"I-I think so. They haven't changed since I found him. I-is that a bad thing? Why are they like that?"
Chara sighed quietly. She hasn't seen a case like this in quite awhile. And never with both eyes.
"From what I'm seeing, it's a bleeding eyes. Except, I can't see the blood vessels. It's all red, but, thankfully, it's not swollen. It could have been caused by some sort of trauma to the eye. It doesn't look like it's been there for very long, but I'd like to run a few tests. Is that ok?"
Ink nodded, and Chara carefully picked Error up. She exited the room, leaving Ink alone with his thoughts. Chara said it might've been caused by trauma. Where had Cinnamon been to cause trauma to his eyes? Wherever it was, it had to bad for Chara to be concerned. No matter what, Ink would do everything he can to keep Cinnamon healthy and happy!
A few minutes later, Chara returned. Error shook his body a bit when she put him back on the counter. She sat back down, and examined Error again. She had noticed during the tests that his leg was bothering him. She checked both his hind legs, and the right one he whimpered when she touched.
"Oh, boy..." she muttered, catching Ink's attention.
"What is it?" he asked worriedly. Chara glanced at him, then back at Error.
"He fell off a table, correct?"
Ink nodded, and she continued.
"I figured as much. He's got a luxating patella. It's not too severe, but it may get worse. Look, he's limping again."
Sure enough, Error was trying to walk around on the counter. He was trying to get away from being touched again, since Chara had run some really weird tests on him. She seems to think he has some disease called "subconjunctival hemorrhage," so she did some stuff to his eyes. Now, they were probably enormous from those drops of... water, he thought it was, she put in them. He hated it, but he could do nothing to prevent it. He would look too suspicious if he were to bite her, right? He certainly didn't want to hurt her, but it was self defense, is it not? He winced again as his right hind leg stung in pain. Yep, he must've dislocated it. But, as with his skeleton monster body, it should heal up in short order. Riiiiiiight?
"Oh, Cinnamon," Ink said as he petted Error's head. "I'm so sorry."
Chara gave a sad look, but grinned.
"There's good news, though. We caught it early, so the prognosis is good. Especially with a bit of rest, therapy, and me putting that dislocated knee back into place! Sound good?"
Ink beamed, and Error sighed in relief. Ok, maybe that's not as bad as he's had in the past, but the fact he's actually getting proper help for it this time really threw Error for a loop. It just seemed unfathomable that Ink of all people would be so desperate to heal him. Not to mention he hasn't needed help so far, so this should've been no different. However, Sci had warned him to act like a regular dog, so he had no choice but to go along with everything they want to do to him.
Chara instructed Ink to keep Error still while she fixed his knee. A pop sounded as she shifted it back into place and, luckily, it stayed in place. It truly wasn't as bad as it seemed.
"Now," Chara said as Ink picked Error up.
"That's everything I could think of. Has he been eating well?"
Ink's eyelights lit up.
"He ate some food before we came here, and I think he was starving before we found him. He didn't eat much though, because I was unsure how much to actually give him, heh heh..." He rubbed his skull awkwardly.
Chara hummed, then petted Error.
"Well, as long as he's eaten something, I think he'll be fine. Has he been urinating more frequently?"
"Uhhhhh........ Noooo....?"
"Hmm," Chara thought a moment.
"Just hitting all the bases. If there are any more concerns, feel free to come back. Me and Azzy are almost always available, so either he or I can check little Cinnamon for you. This might be especially important if those bleeding eyes persist. Come back in, oh, maybe three days, and we'll see if he improves. The tests were inconclusive, so if you bring him back, I may have to rerun them. He didn't like the tests, but he was good nonetheless. You've got yourself a peach of a Yorkie, there."
Chara smiled, then handed Ink a baggie with treats in it. He thanked her and left the room, Error in his arms. Waving back at her, he said goodbye and thanked her, and went over to Dream, Blueberry, and Sci.
"Guys, Cinnamon is gonna be ok!"
They collectively breathed a sigh of relief, Sci especially. He met Error's little eyes and smiled. Error looked back at him, his ears drooping slightly. Oh boy, when he gets back to normal, he is so getting Sci back for this. He's lucky Error was a dog right now, or else he'd be strangling him for being stupid enough to make more than one potion. Then again, perhaps Error shouldn't have been so hasty in taking any which one he wanted. But it wouldn't have killed him anyway, so would it have mattered?
"That's a relief, Ink," Dream said, standing up. The rest followed suit and were about to leave, but once again the receptionist stopped Ink.
"Oh!" Ink exclaimed. "Of course. I probably have to pay for this, don't I?"
The receptionist nodded, and Ink did so.
Yes, Ink is rich.
Asked nobody ever.
The four skeletons and Error finally left. But they didn't notice somebody had been watching them.

Well then. Hai. I'm not dead. I was gonna make this chapter longer, but I decided it was long enough already. Sorry for the wait, but I had a whole bunch of scenarios for this single scene planned out and I couldn't decide which one I liked best. Plus, I had to look up the word "ophthalmoscope" so I got it right. Also, you're welcome for all the fun facts about what the hell is wrong with Error. He doesn't actually have bleeding eyes. We Undertale fans know that's just the way he is, even in dog form.
:D
