Thousand Years (3)

I woke up to the sound of the phone ringing at 6:30 in the morning. Irritated, I got up and answered the call. "Hello." My voice was still groggy but the receptionist sounded cheerful.

"Ms. Asia Sablan, Mr. Christopher Dela Rosa is here to see you." I instantly woke up and told her send him up. I quickly hung up and got myself ready.

Just in time, the doorbell rang. I opened the door and welcomed him inside. He shook his head, not wanting to come in. "I'm sorry for coming again without notice but..." He gave me a serious look. "There's something I need to show you."

We headed down to his car. I asked where we were heading. "Secret." He said. The drive felt long, but silent. To my surprise, he brought us to his own home.

The house was still the same. The garden gnomes still stood at its place, only it was a little worn out. Christopher opens my side of the door. I thanked him for his kind gesture. We walked towards the doorstep and a beautiful middle aged woman with short, blonde hair answered. "Hi!" The woman said.

She had a very welcoming expression which made me felt at home. Christopher hugged and gave her a kiss on the cheek. "Hi mom." Mom? I looked questionably at him. "Where's grandpa?"

"He's upstairs." She pointed the direction.

"Thanks." He took my hand and brought me inside. It's been quite a while since I've been here. Nothing's changed, except everything looked a bit old. The paint on the walls lost its color, but the place was fairly clean. "Wait right here."

While waiting for his return, I decided to look around. Everything here was very nostalgic.

A picture on the wall shelf caught my attention. It was a picture of Christopher and I. The same picture I had on my phone. "Asia?" The sound of his voice made my heart skip a beat. It was the same as when Christopher would say my name, but this person's voice sounded old. I turned to see who it was.

A man stood there with a cane. His face was wrinkled and there was a little twinkle in his eyes. I felt a pull towards him. It's something I can't explain. Behind him was Christopher. "Asia, I'd like you to meet my grandpa: Christopher Dela Rosa."

I was surprised. "You were named after your grandfather?"

"No, Asia. This man, my grandfather is the Christopher you've been looking for." I started getting confused more. I looked at his grandfather. He had the same pale expression Chris had.

"How is this possible? I thought you were dead?" He said.

What? Dead? I glared at Chris. "Is this some kind of joke?"

"Asia, as grandpa said, we don't know how it's possible. Sixty years ago, you died on the day the both of you broke up." That's when everything came back to me. Sixty years ago, Chris ran after me but by the time he reached me, it was too late. My death was a hit and run case.

My knees dropped and I started crying.

The old man, no... Chris, my Chris, approached me and hugged me. My tears instantly stopped. That was the effect he always had on me. "Everyday, I pray to see you one last time. To hold you like this and tell you how much I love you. I'm sorry, Asia." His voice shook. I smiled and turned to him.

I held his face and examined it. Even though he aged, he is still the same handsome man I know and love. "I forgive you. I love you. No matter how many years pass, let it be a thousand or more, I will always love you." When the last tear fell from my eye, my soul rose from the body I used and went to heaven. Good bye, my love.

At Night

Christopher Senior sat in front of his window under the full moon holding onto the picture of him and Asia. He smiled. "Looks like I am ready to join you, my love." He took his last breath and welcomed darkness.

A spec of light illuminated from above where God and the love of his life welcomed him in open arms.

The love of Christopher and Asia, indeed, worked in mysterious ways. But their love is proof that no matter how long time takes, it always finds its way back.

The End.
