[11] Pre-Party.
"What are you wearing?" Shelby asked me as she sat at her dressing table and started applying her make up.
"I don't know yet." I replied honestly.
I'm not really the type to pick out an outfit a week before the actual event, let alone the day before. All I usually need is the short space of the time after I take a shower and before I leave.
It was quite dark outside and I needed to hurry up so I could be on time for when Miles comes to pick us up. Speaking of Miles, I was still annoyed by what happened last night. She called him before going to sleep and they talked for almost an eternity!
Imagine how difficult it was being in the same room. I left the room, claiming I was going to get water about four times during that entire l was listening to them say their goodbyes. The phone speaker was so loud, I could hear their entire conversation.
And if I know Shelby, she probably did it on purpose just to rave about how much of a good boyfriend Miles is.
I remember it like it was happening right at this moment.
"Bye Shelby,"
"Bye Honey bear! I love you, okay?"
"Aww, Shelby..."
"No, I really do! I love you more and more each day!"
"Shelby..."
"You don't have to say it unless you mean it, Honey bear. I've reached that point in our relationship. You'll get there eventually, and I honestly can't wait! See you tomorrow, Love."
"Bye,"
"Bye Honey bear!"
Jeez!
I don't know if it was Shelby's I love you's or the pet name 'Honey bear' that drove me insane.
Probably both.
"Hellloo!" Shelby suddenly broke me out of the stance I was in.
"Yeah... what?" I said, making it obvious I wasn't paying attention.
"I said," She huffed and shook her head disapprovingly at me. "I could borrow you an outfit before you embarrass yourself and wear all that shit you normally wear on a daily."
"I think it would have been better if you didn't even tell me that," I said with a roll of my eyes. "You're really mean for a so called best friend." I teased.
Her face softened. "Sorry, I didn't mean it that way," She said. "I was just looking out for you, that's all."
"It's okay. I know," I assured her.
Again. I've become used to it, so I really wasn't offended anymore.
I made my way to the bathroom and allowed the water to run as I stripped. A couple of seconds later, I went inside and let the hot water run all over my body while I used a sponge to wash my body with soap. I reached up and pulled my hair out of the bun it was in so I could wash it. Putting on some shampoo, I started massaging my scalp and cleaning my hair thoroughly before rinsing it.
I turn the water off and walk out of the bathroom with a towel around my wet body. I open the bathroom door and step into Shelby's bedroom, hardly paying attention to my surroundings.
I finally look up as I close the bathroom door. Clutching the towel close to my body, I scream when I meet the widened eyes of Miles Kramer which are raking my body from head to toe.
"Ahhhhh... what the fuck?!" I said loudly as I scrambled backwards, only to receive a hard blow to my back when it hits the bathroom door handle. "OW, SHIT!"
I look around the room to see that Shelby isn't here at the moment. But forget that, Miles looked sexy! I can't bring myself to understand how he makes such a simple outfit work so well for him. It's just a white t-shirt with black jeans and a black jacket but he looks like the most deliciously hot guy on the planet.
I quickly straightened up my body, feeling way too embarrassed. "What are you doing here?!"
"I—I... uh, I'm sorry." He gulped as he tried to look anywhere but at me and scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "Shelby said I could come up."
Suddenly the door burst open. "Tyler, what? Are you okay? You scared the shit out of me." She said, putting a hand over her heart dramatically.
"I scared the shit out of you?" I gave her an incredulous look, "Yeah... right." I folded my arms over my chest with a huff.
"Okay, Miles... go chill in the study or something, we need to get ready." Shelby said before turning to me. "Just dry your hair. I will work my magic when I get back."
She winked at me and then left, Miles following after her, but not before he silently apologised for making me uncomfortable.
I just waved it off dismissively, letting him know it was okay.
---
"You know," I started. "I could just wear my tracksuits and save you the extra work of having to look through your entire closer in order to borrow me an outfit?"
"Not happening!" She shouted.
I groaned and fell back on the bed. Her sudden loud and excited squeal had me flinching.
"What the..." I looked up at her questioningly.
"Give a round of applause for the ultimate perfect dress of the season!" She finally held out the dress for me to see while she was jumping up and down in excitement. I just raised my eyebrows at her. It was a sleeveless black body con dress that would undoubtedly enhance my body shape.
She saw how far from excited I was and she let out a huff. "Tyler, you need to look sexy," She argued.
"Yeah," I nodded sarcastically. "I think jeans would be sufficient."
She groaned and leaned back in an attempt to throw herself back on the bed. Her eyes widened and she held herself up with great difficulty. "Shit, I almost ruined my hair!"
Shelby was ready all right, even made her hair into a neat bun. She was wearing a simple but elegant red dress which was cut off by the shoulders. A bit too formal for a party. The dress she picked out for me was perfect for the occasion but I really wasn't that fond of dresses.
"Come on, I didn't turn you into a total Betty just so you could wear tracksuits as if you're going to take a fucking jog outside," She said with a roll of her eyes.
"Ugh, they can put two and two together!" I argued. "Who goes for a jog while wearing make up?"
"Well yours, honey—"
"Not that Honey bear nickname please!" I stopped her, already annoyed.
She scowled. "What the hell is your problem today? You fight with every single thing I say or decide!" She crossed her arms over her chest defiantly. "Anyway, I was just going to call you Honey. Honey bear is only for Miles."
"Good," I shrugged.
"Anyway, what I meant to say was that your make up looks pretty non-existent since you wanted to look natural," She said, mimicking my voice in that last part.
"I prefer it that way," I smiled sarcastically at her.
"Come on, now... put this on!" She handed me the dress and I finally put the dress on with a pair of my black Vans, since I can't really walk in heels.
I seriously don't understand the sense behind wearing heels at a party. What if you want to jump and dance around freely? I can imagine the pain you go through after jumping up and down in those heels for a long time. If you're wearing heels, I feel like you're planning to just sway to the music the entire night.
Talk about boring.
"Holy smoke!" Shelby gasped as she looked at me from head to toe, a large grin settling on her face.
"What?" I questioned, looking down at myself nervously. "Is it too skimpy? Too short? Shelby what?! Tell me!"
"You look amazing! No, you look hot! Who knew you had legs like this?! I'd kill for those!" She turned me around so she could look at the whole thing. "Shit, forget making an impression... you are so getting action tonight!"
I made my way over to the mirror. My eyes widened at what I saw. Shelby was good—No, AMAZING at giving me a make over tonight.
My long hair was straightened and flowing down my back in smooth and thick waves while the dress was a perfect fit. My hips were enhanced perfectly and the dress was a bit low cut but it wasn't too bad. It came down halfway my thighs and still looked far from skimpy. Bottomline: I looked really good.
