Baking

Damian hadn't dabbled in baking much, but when Marcy came running up to him asking if they could make brownies he couldn't refuse. After a quick stop at the nearest grocery store, the two entered the house with a box of brownie mix.

"Alright, Marcy, I'll preheat the oven and get the pan ready. You get the ingredients, got it?" Damian asked, getting a thumbs up as the answer

Then the work began, Damian put the egg, oil, and water in the bowl and quickly mixed them together. After, he gave Marcy the box of dry mix and told her to dump it as he was mixing everything together. The two made quick work of that, and after pouring the batter into a small pan, Damian gave Marcy the spoon he used to mix.

"You can lick the rest of the batter off," he said, as he walked over to put the pan in the oven, "Alright, twenty-five minutes and they should be done."

To wait, Marcy explained everything she knew about different types of animals. He enjoyed listening to her talk, even if he knew little about what she said. He enjoyed spending time with his sister. Looking back, Damian wished he had savored those moments more.

Twenty-five minutes had passed quickly, and after letting the brownies cool. Damian cut them into squares and transferred some to a plate. Damian smiled, as he got two glasses and filled them with milk.

"Here ya go," Damian said as he placed the small plate in front of his sister, "Enjoy."

Marcy took a bite of the treat and instantly her eyes widened, as she stuffed the rest in her mouth.

"Good?"

"Mhm! Super good," she smiled, "Can I keep talking about animals again?"

Damian chuckled at the question, "Of course, you can, Marcy!"

The two sat at the table, Damian happily listening to his sister talk, as they ate their treat. He really did miss those moments.
