I took my first steps today

it was very hard to do

The steps were very repetitive,

taken one at a time

Everyone cheered my name

As I took my first steps

and then I fell,

but there was no shame

I got back up and walked

as if nothing had happened

still trying to balance my toddler feet

While Mother praised and others gawked

She was so proud of me

when I made it into her arms

She tickled my belly and kissed my nose

she was so proud that I took my first steps today
