Prom

The most wonderful of days for her in high school

Decorations in purple and silver

Friends riding in the limo next to her

plans to sneak out

plans to invite that special someone to that dance with her

are gone

She had no chance at being the unwritten prom queen

but that wouldn't stop her from trying\she was always a go-getter

and this was a chance to be with her friends

she was not going to give this day up for anything

This young girl had it all mapped out

wake up early and get dressed in the perfect dress she ordered months ago

wear perfume for the first time with contacts

check

make other people notice her for once 

check

pick up her friends and their dates in a limo

check

get that perfect dance with her date her mother knows nothing about

check

promise to that someone that you love them

check

get surprised by that someone showing up in person to do that promised dance

check

have their first kiss

check

everything was checked off her list for this day

the date was going to be May 2, 2020

she was going to have the time of her life

she was going to spend her last moments with her senior friends

she was going to be with her classmates, bandmates for the last time before they were gone

she never gets to

the day was stripped from her

she knew it months ahead

she had a plan for the perfect day

the perfect moments

the most memorable moments as a junior in high school

the last moments as a junior in high school

she had one more year, just the one

she wanted to spend time with her friends before they've gone

now shes in her room

her beautiful sparkling purple dress embroidered with diamonds and a train to cascade behind her

staring blankly at her phone

as her friends refused the idea of doing prom online

as her school refused to do it via social distancing because it would be 

"not as special or fun"

for the day she planned for is gone due to the pandemic
