Chapter 9
Zynero POV
She left in such a rush that a bad feeling had rushed over Zynero.
The Prince of Stoynmonte went into the corridor which she was staying on. As he finally arrived in the second story, there was a thunderous stomping noise coming from the stairwell behind. Frowning, he turned around.
It was two of the guards, dashing towards him they huffed, out of breath as the first one said, "The girl. She... she's gone."
Ice-cold rage washed over his entire body from head to toe, "How could this even happen?" He shouted, furious as the guards warily took a step back, the other one replied;
"She just -- she just jumped out there, and we couldn't stop her."
They lowered heads in submission, still panting heavily.
Zynero stomped towards her room, holding his breath as he knocked. No response.
In a fit of rage, he kicked her door ajar. Peering inside, he saw she wasn't there.
"Where is she?" He yelled, knocking the trinkets from the armoire and turning back to face the guards. "How could you..-- you fools let her out?"
"But we didn't, your majesty."
"How could you have not let her out? Then where is she? Huh?" Zynero seethed in anger, seeing red.
Looking around, he saw that the balcony door was open, and there was a marking on the lawn below.
"Send the guards. All of them. I wouldn't be an imbecile to let that delinquent escape from here." To the guards, Zynero sounded mad, but he wasn't really mad because of her escape, he wouldn't know what his father would do when he found out that he let not just an ordinary elve, but the Princess of Elves escape.
Zynero knew what he was going to tell his father, that the guards had been slacking off on duty and then he would dismiss them. But what Zynero didn't know, was that at that exact moment around the corner, the Head of Guard was planning his revenge to knock the King off his throne. While he wasn't quite sure how he was going to do it, he knew he was going to kill him. The Guard's parents had died in one of the many wars that happened over the years and as such, he had never felt safe or had anybody take care of him. He had blamed all of this on the future King and hated the family since he was young. The first step in his plan? To trick the Prince and get close to the King. Which he had already done considering that he was the Head of Guard, whom the King would soon trust more than his own son. He fingered his blade, thinking about how easy it would be, but he had worked too hard to do it like that.
