Chapter 2: A Twisted Tale and A Fourth Wall Break (Duh)

Briar swam through the dark light, not entirely sure what she was swimming to. Still, she kept going. She found that dark light was not unlike water, cool to touch, smooth and heavy to move, and blissfully unaware of anything else around it. It was still hard to see, but something instinctively told her where to go. Briar swam downward, down to the ground.

Wails and other miserable sounds echoed around her as she continued swimming. Briar ignored them, swimming onward. Then she planted her feet on the ground. The world tilted and shifted, and suddenly she was somewhere else.

Instead of a pool of dark light, what lay in front of her was a post-apocalyptic fairytale village. It had the innocent charm of a fairytale stripped away, where they should be castles and gingerbread houses, there were cracks in the seams of the wood and torn up streets. People walked the streets with a purpose, each searching for something. The people seemed unaware of her presence, in their old clothing of royalty that looked more suited for a haunted house than a castle. Briar slowly walked forward, seemingly unaware of how everything would make her appear apart from the crowd. Due to dumb luck or plot armor, no one seemed to notice that the person among them was not from there.

Briar caught whispers and snatches of conversation as she mingled through the crowd.

"A new one?'

"Indeed."

"Good for her."

"Good riddance I say. Once I find mine, they won't be as lucky."

"Hear hear! I can't wait to leave this god awful place!" Briar pulled away in concern, something seemed not completely right. She turned quickly, before bumping into another person. They smirked at her.

"Welcome to the Glass Grove dear. Its a pity you didn't show up sooner. But, my Lorena was a very smart girl. Revenge is rather fleeting when its just death." Briar's stomach twisted.

"I don't understand." The woman in front of her scoffed.

"Of course you wouldn't. You humans banish us here, and then have the audacity to never remember us again. Victors do write the history books it seems." Briar backed away, running.

The woman crowed after her. "Run all you want. This is one place you can't run from!"
