Background: Born in England to a family with a long history of being in the printing press business, Andrew Edward Thomas III had a modest childhood as apart of England's 18th Century merchant class. Using his family's connections, Andrew attended Kings's College, Cambridge, graduating in 1761 at age 22. He married childhood sweetheart Anne Fielding that Summer and the newlywed couple emigrated to Britain's American Colonies in August 1761. Andrew never saw his father or immediate family again, for he did not return to England until the outbreak of the First World Water in 1914. After arriving in Boston Harbor, Anne and Andrew made their way to New York City and then settled in Fairfax, Virginia, where Andrew followed the family tradition and opened a newspaper and printing press in Fairfax in January 1762. Andrew and Anne's first child, son Christian, was born in June of that year. Their daughter, Delia, was born a year later.

Tragedy struck Andrew when Anne contracted a serious case of influenza in 1765 and died of the illness a few months later, the children survived, leaving Andrew to raise them alone and run his business. The family learned to heal and eventually fell back into the rythym of life again.

Political tensions began to intensify between Great Britain and her American Colonies in the early 1770's By the mid 1770's these political tensions evolved into a full blown Revolution and this caused friction between Andrew and a now teenage Christian, who was becoming pro-patriot. Andrew, a moderate loyalist was not too sure the colonies could survive as independent nation states. 16 year old Ian enlisted in the Continental Army in 1778 against Andrew's wishes. It was around this time Andrew met a young English socialite named Kalen Mikaelson and the two men began a friendship, with Kalen investing money in the print shop.

In 1781, Kalen informed Andrew that the American and British armies were massing at Yorktown, Virginia for a great battle, and the two men and Delia went to find Ian. The Battle of Yorktown commenced on September 28th, 1781, Kalen and the Thomas's did not arrive at the US Army's camp (Kalen had a sire on the staff of George Washington, granting them access) until the evening of September 30th.

It was at the American camp that Kalen revealed to Andrew the existence of vampires and that Kalen was a member of the first family of vampires- an Original. Kalen also explained that he wants Andrew to be one of his sires. Andrew did not really know how to process this information, but pushed the info out of his mind until they found his son.

Kalen found Ian in a hospital tent, dying from mortal wounds, sustained in battle the day before. Kalen, fed Ian his blood saving him. Andrew then arrived and father and son embraced. However, Ian would not desert the army and leave as Andrew wanted. Kalen stated that they had to leave, now that Ian's wounds had been miraculously healed, the humans would know something wasn't right, having seen Ian as good as dead the day before, the secrecy of the vampire race would be threatened. Ian however, still refused to leave. So, Kalen snapped the young man's neck, forcibly starting the other's transition into vampire. Andrew was furious, but did not want to cause a scene in the middle of an army camp.

The group made their way to a cabin in the Virginia woods, where Kalen explained he had no choice but to do what he did. He had to get Ian away from the camp and if he did not come willingly, forcing a transition was the only option. Andrew realized Kalen was right and tensions among the two cooled. Ian awoke a while later and Kalen explained the existence of vampires and now that Ian had died with Kalen's blood in his system, his transition had started and he needed to feed to complete the transition in 48 hours or he would die. Enraged that he had this choice taken from him, it took some convincing from Andrew to get Ian to go with Kalen to feed, but the other agreed. The two left, found some poor British solider to feed from and Ian came back a vampire.

After some thinking, Andrew decided to take Kalen up on his offer of vampirism, not wanting to break up their family. Trusting her father, Delia agreed as well. So, father and daughter drank from Kalen's blood and then hung themselves from the cabin's ceiling. They both awoke and began to transition. Same as with Ian Kalen took father and daughter out and helped them hunt to complete their transition into vampires.

Following his split from Kalen around 1800, Andrew used wealth he accumulated to began buying up newspapers and nagezines around the world and brought them under one company: Thomas & Co. News Outlets. Once he helped found Oakridge, Alabama on the 1830's with other supernatural families, he headquartered his company there and founded Oakridge's local newspaper. With the advent of the telegraph, he extended his company's reach truly globally, setting up offices over the world.

With the advent of silent films, Andrew funneled money into Hollywood during its early days and helping finance film studios for Louis B. Mayer (of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer fame- MGM) and the Warner Brothers. He also began buying establishing radio statins worldwide as early as 1920.

In 1930, Andrew changed his company's name to Thomas Global Media Network (TGMN) and began investing in a brand new invention- television.
In 1968, TGMN quietly acquired The Walt Disney Company following its founders death two years earlier. TGMN purchased Viacom in 1990 and is today the largest media company in the world with offices in every major city.

TGMN's global headquarters is in Atlanta, Georgia. Andrew leaves the day to day running of his company to trusted humans and spends most of his days at his Oakridge estate with his family.
