Chapter 33 - Celebrations begin

Ab toh dukh bhare din beete re bhaiya!

Biro, I'll miss these memes so much!

Happy Reading!

Flowers, blessings and colourful curtains adorned Sonakshi and Dev's houses. All their loved ones had gathered to celebrate their wedding. Their union became a festival in itself. After all they had gone through, they deserved their share of happiness.

Din shagna da chadheya
Aao sakhiyon ni vehra sajeya
Haan..
Mera sajna mileya
Sajna milan vadhaiyan
Ni saajan doli leke aauna
Ni vehra sajeya

In Sonakshi's house women were getting mehndi applied and sitting in the centre of the celebrations, she could see that all her materialistic achievements never made the home as happy as this blessed atmosphere did.

Mera sajna mileya
Sajna mileya Sajna mileya
haan..

Wo ho...

Naina, Preeti, Swati, Nisha, Samayra, Shefali, Nikki and Elena were dancing for the bride to be's entertainment.

Din shagna da chadheya
Aao sakhiyon ni vehra sajeya
Haan...
Mera sajna mileya
Sajna milan vadhaiyan
Ni sajan doli leke auna
Ni mera sajna

Asha, Bela Chachi, Manju Aunty, Radha Rani, Ishwari and Jyotsna basked in the happiness radiating everywhere.

Dholna ve,
Dholna ve
Ranjhan Mahi dholna
Dholna ve, dholna ve
Heer jogni dholna
Dholna ve dholna
Tu mera naseeba dholna
Dholna ve dholna
Main jugni teri dholna

Jaavan na main bin shehnaiyan Satrangi rubaiyaan Sunaa ja tu harjaiyaa (x2)
Shamiyaana sajavan
Doli leke main aavan
Aatishbazi karaake
Tenu leke main jaavan

Giggles and gossips filled the hall as the ladies got their designs selected, told the mehndi wali didi the length of the mehndi they wanted and compared and complimented each other's hands.

"Sona! sun na! Dev ka naam kaha likhwayegi?" Elena nudged her.

"Cheee!! Kitna creepy aur cheesy lagta hai mai nahi likhwa rahi." Sonakshi made a disgusted face.

"Accha?" Nisha said. "Mere saamne to ban mat! Wo kone me D likha hua dikh raha hai mujhe."

Elena searched for the alphabet and was about to clap her hands in excitement when she realised that her mehndi was still wet.

Sonakshi looked away and blushed.

"Aaayee Hayee!" Nikki joined the little group.

"Yeh dulhan ki friends ka usse chedna zaroori hai kya?" Sonakshi asked.

"Haq hai bhai!" Nisha said.

"Tu mehndi nahi lagwayegi?" Sonakshi asked her.

"Naaaa I HATE the smell !! The room is smelling of mehndi. I think I'll faint." Nisha dramatically got up and made faint-ish expressions.

She was going out of the house for a breath of fresh, mehndi-free air when all of a sudden three fans (used to create unnecessary storms in daily soaps) stood in front of her. Three hands waved at her from behind the fans. She waved back.

"Kaun hai?" She asked

Sameer, Munna and Pandit's heads emerged in response.

"Ye pankhe kisne mangwaye hain?"

"Kisi ne nahi." Munna said

Asha spotted the boys standing near the door.

"Sameer? Munna? Pandit?" She called them.

The boys dragged the fans inside too.

"Munna!!!" His mom screamed. "Ye padhai likhai chod ke kin kaamo me lag gaya hai tu!"

"Wo kya hai na Aunty" Sameer stepped on Munna's foot to stop him from saying anything stupid. "Humne socha baarish ka mausam hai, garmi bhi badh gayi hai, ye pankhe chalenge aapki mehndi jaldi sukhegi aur fir aap log jaldi jaldi khana bhi kha lenge."

"Haye! Haye! Ishwari ji ... Kitna samajhdar ho gaya hai humara Sameer! Ek number ka Bholuram hai, warna iss gareeb ki beti ki itni chinta kisi ne ki hai kya kabhi?"

"Bhagwan jhooth na bulaye Radha ben inn teeno ko mai acche se jaanti hu pakka koi khichdi pak rahi hai inke dimag me." Bela Chachi said.

"Accha tum log ek ek fan teen side par laga do... Itni bhi garmi nahi thi, beta aur ek kaam karo iske baad na hum sab ko juice pila do." Ishwari requested.

"Ji?" Pandit hadn't expected this.

"Ji." Preeti smirked.

The boys stationed each fan in a direction from where they could see their girls properly. Sameer was standing right beside Naina. The strong winds from the fan were blowing her hair haywire. She was trying to remove a strand from her face but both her hands weren't free. Her design was still not complete.

Sameer, without drawing any attention to himself sat beside Naina and in a sly move of his hand pushed her rebellious hair behind her ear. Nobody noticed except Naina. She blushed a little and then scrunched her nose.

"Khujli ho rahi hai." She whined.

He brushed the tip of her nose gently with his finger.

Nazar milne se shuru hoti thi
Kahani pyaar ki
Din dopahar guzarti thi jab
Gali me yaar ki
Patang teri chato par giraya karte the
Tumhe Ramayan ke bahane dekh aaya karte the
Dekh aaya karte the
Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai
Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai

"Bhaiya ka naam kya hai? Mehndi par likh du?" The mehndi artist teased them.

"Haa likho na! Bada bada likhna. S.A.M.E.E.R." Sameer said.

"Kya tum bhi! Asha Aunty ne dekh liya na toh seedha mere ghar par phone jaayega!" Naina was tensed. She was about to stop the mehndi artist but she had already written S.

"Bas aage mat likho." Naina said. She couldn't take her eyes of the S in her hands. It looked so perfect! The whole design had a new found beauty because of it.

She turned to show the S to Sameer but he was ready with a glass of orange juice in his hand. The mehndi artist couldn't help but say awww to the cute, little couple. Taking full precaution to not let a drop of juice spoil his girl's attire, he quenched her thirst.

On another side of the hall Pandit was making sure that the fan comforted one particular girl.

Shefali.

Preeti had been expecting Pandit to be atleast 1% like her Jijaji but he was busy somewhere else! She felt like she would blast with anger, so she went and stood beside him.

"Kitni sundar hai na?" She said.

"Bahut." Came Pandit's reply.

Preeti stamped his foot and crushed it angrily.

"Ouchhh!! Preetii."

"Koi zaroorat nahi hai meri di ki shadi me aane ki. Get lost!" She was about to leave when Pandit stopped her.

"Aree!! Yaar!! Preeti!! Suno to." Pandit stood in her way.

"Hato. Niklo tum mere ghar se."

Preeti looked at him, her eyes were teary.

"Ro kyu rahi ho?" Pandit laughed.

Preeti pushed him but he stood in her way.

"Kya kiya maine?"

"Listen Mr. Pandit whatever your last name is! If I find you even thinking to think about someone else I will I will ... Tumhari aankhein nikal ke kanche khelungi. You are mine and you get that straight in your head."

She didn't let Pandit reply and left the hall. Pandit wanted to follow her but the aunties wanted the special juice treatment so he had to stay.

Nisha sat next to Sonakshi and was giggling without a reason.

"You know, everytime I think you can't get more insane, you prove me wrong." Sonakshi said. "Kyu has rahi ho?"

"Ye autorickshaw ke teen wheels ko dekh ke." She pointed at SaMunDit. "Waise ... Jijaji nahi aayenge Mehndi gate crash karne?"

"Wo Dev? He's a lazy, fathead! Usko khud ki shakal mirror me dekhne se fursat milegi tab aayega na." She looked at SamAina. "Ye nahi ki kuch special kar de."

"Oho! Sun teri shadi me na hum jijaji ko..."

"Ye ho gayi na mehndi?" Sonakshi asked the mehndi artist.

"Ek minute aur"

She did the final touches and Sonakshi was free to leave. She stormed out of the hall in frustration.

After Dev proposed Sonakshi she couldn't set her feet on the ground. Pragati and Dev's divorce was wrapped up quickly and DevAkshi were engaged in a quiet affair. After three months from the engagement DevAkshi's wedding was finalised.

Dev didn't change a bit. He was his same usual self absorbed self. He treated Sonakshi like they were classmates. They had fun filled chats and their coffee sessions together in the canteen. They had late night phone calls and long texting sessions but Dev wasn't giving her the pre wedding, special treatment that every bride deserved!

What was that treatment?

1. Dev should climb the pipes and enter her room.

2. He should jump from Munna's balcony to meet her.

3. He should tell her that she shouldn't diet and she was perfectly slim.

The list went on and on.

"Kaisa ladka hai ye!!" Sonakshi said and fell backwards on her bed. She looked at the fan for a while and then her view was blocked.

"Dev!!" She got up with a jolt. Their heads collided.

"Aah!" Sonakshi whined. Dev rubbed his temple with one hand and with the other he rubbed Sona's forehead.

"Tum kab aaye?" She asked.

"Jab wo teeno ... Sameer, Munna aur Pandit ... Pandit? Yahi naam hai na?" Dev asked her.

She nodded happily.

"Wo log wo fan leke aaye the tab." Dev raised his imaginary collars.

Sonakshi couldn't help smiling.

"Toh maine kaunse acche karam kiye the jo aap yaha padhare?" Sonakshi batted her eyelids.

"Kuch nahi. See, we've made such amazing pre wedding memories. I wanted to add more to them." Dev slid next to her.

"We've had pre wedding memories?" Sonakshi asked

"Yaa. We undid all the bad memories regarding the coffee, talks on sets and in the canteens. We chat for such long hours, we talk on the phone! We're practically together all the time and what could be better than that?" He said.

"I ... No, nothing can be better than this." Sonakshi smiled and slapped herself mentally for expecting unrealistic foolish things.

"Here is something for you." Dev handed her a parcel. "Open it."

Sonakshi tore open the wrapper with enthusiasm. Inside the wraps was a pink banarasi sari.

"It's mom's. I was wondering if you'll wear it for the sangeet. I understand that it's kind of old and you won't be able to dance with this. So, even if you don't want to it's okay." Dev looked at her with distinctive hope.

"It's beautiful. I'll wear it." Sonakshi said with authority.

"There's this gajra that could go with it." Dev took out a string filled with mogra flowers.

Sonakshi took it happily.

"Mom had taken this sari out for Pragati's sangeet but everything happened in a hurry and we couldn't have elaborate functions. I guess, the sari was waiting for it's rightful owner." Dev said.

"I am it's rightful owner." Sonakshi shifted closer to Dev, linked her arm with his and rested her head on his shoulder. She closed her eyes. This was peace.

Badle se din hai
Meri badli si raatein
Kayi dinon se meri
Mehki hain saansein
Pehli dafa hai
ki mujhme tu chalka hai
Mere rango me kuch rang hai
Tere jaise bhi
Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi
Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi

Back in the hall, Swati had just taken off her mehndi and was admiring the deep colour of the henna. She had scribbled a microscopic 'Munna' in a corner. She was admiring her mehndi was someone cleared his throat behind her.

"Ye meri report card hai. 40% marks aaye hai. Mai pass ho gaya." Munna handed her his mark sheet.

"Are waah Munna! Maine kaha tha na tumhe thoda aur serious hone ki zaroorat hai." Swati was looking at his marksheet. She looked up but Munna was gone. "Munna? Munna?"

She saw him running out of the main door. She ran behind him.

"Jai ho Dev Baba ki!" Munna screamed while running. "Unhone kaha tha ki serious ho jaao ladki peeche peeche aayegi!! Jai ho! Jai ho!"

Munna kept running ahead and Swati ran behind him with his marksheet.
