Chapter 3
Chapter 3:
What has she done? My chest hurts, it hurts. It's caving in. I wanted to throw up. I wanted to thrash. I wanted to kill her. I pushed the door open. She turned with a gasp but didn't move from her spot, nor dropped the knife. Tears stained my cheeks, scanning the scene. I wasn't dreaming. This was real: father on the floor immobile, blood pooling around his lifeless body, Andrea's hands covered in his blood. "What did you do?" I asked in a quivering voice.
"You stupid little girl, why are you still awake?" Andrea's face was red, gripping the knife between her palm and fingers.
"Why? What have you done? Father-" my voice came out in a croak, coughing and sobbing. "Please get up." I was frightened to move. If I did, it could be reality. My eyes blurred from my tears. She killed him.
"You need to get out of this room, this has nothing to do with you," she warned me, stepping forward to my side and grabbing my elbow.
"You killed him, you killed him." I repeated when she tried to drag me away, I removed my arm and ran to my father's body. I shouldn't move him, I could hurt him. He's dead. I wept and called his name again. I looked up to her, she smirked and wiped his blood from her blade. She actually thought she would get away with this? I stood up and said, "you killed him. My father. Your king. How could you? You think you could get away with this?" I moved forward, staring straight into her eyes. "You won't live to see this sunrise."
Her eyes widened, jaw dropped as she was speechless. Good, let her shut up for once. Her movement was quick, the blade sliced my cheek before I could utter another word. I winced, panting from her action. I touched my cheek as I saw I was drawing blood. The same cheek she slapped me.
"You are threatening me?" She scoffed, squaring her shoulders.
"No." I squeezed my fist, she gasped out, holding her neck. "Not a threat. I should kill you." She let out a choked noise from my strangles. Mother used to tell me not to use my powers to harm others. I couldn't bear the thought of disappointing her, but this had gone too far.
"You've made my life hell since you came into our dwelling, you don't deserve to live." I gritted my teeth with every word I spoke. Her eyes bulged, tearing up, she tried to speak but words failed her. The fire in my belly urged me to take her last breath, just like she took my father's. My mother's. She stole my family. My eyes burned from grief and hate, two had a fine line. My sister has no idea what happened. My sister. Oh, my god, my sister. I released her, she coughed as I dropped to my knees. My sister, Ana, how would I tell her? "You're not worth it, Andrea. Your heart is filled with sludge and maggots. You have to leave," I told her in a shaky voice.
"I'm not leaving my castle," she said confidently.
"This is not your castle! It's my family's castle! My name! My blood! Which has been spilled by you!" Her eyes widened again when my voice turned into screams. I didn't care if the whole kingdom heard. She will pay for her crimes.
"Yes it is! As far as you're concerned, it belongs to me if my husband dies."
"From natural causes, not murder." I knew exactly what she was talking about. The door slammed open again, Cassandra and Amanda rushed in, they were already in their nightgowns and night cream slathered on their faces.
"What's with all the noise? I'm trying to get my-" Cassandra's rant was cut short when she witnessed father on the ground, bleeding out. She let out a blood curdling scream. Amanda followed, stumbling and mumbling.
"Who did this?" Cassandra asked in a wobbly voice, sounded like she was crying. Father gave them everything, of course the spoiled brat was devastated that the man she relied on extravagant things was gone.
Andrea coughed and yelled, "I found him like this. Can you believe she was so evil to kill her own father?!" My head snapped up, what did she just say?! Before I could speak, the ground shook, cracking the crevices of the castle. The roof breaking apart, the hardwood floors cracked all over the house. This was it, the balance of the kingdom have gone off kilter, destroying the land.
