Chapter Twenty Two

Rubab's POV:

Fahad pushed hard on the brakes but it was too late, his car touched the two cars in the front causing a strong jolt throughout. Everything happened so fast. An airbag opened infront of me minimizing the impact of the accident. To my horror, Fahad's airbag didn't open and his head collided with the top of the steering wheel knocking him out cold. I had remembered that he had forced me to wear a seatbelt and forgot to wear his on. Shit. There was a bruise on his forehead. A cut that would definitely need stitches.

"Fahad? Wake up!" I shook him but he just groaned unconsciously. His eyebrows were knit tight and I could tell he was in agony. I slowly deflated the air bag and saw a sight that scared me shitless. Salman, Zohaib's younger brother stepped out of the Tundra we had smashed into. He looked at the two of us and then focused his eyes on me. This was their doing? The second car that was blocking our path also belonged to Salman's guards.

Shit, so Fahad was right. Zohaib, that fucking psychopath was back. I watched Salman cracking his knuckles before he moved to my side of the car. He opened the passenger door and grabbed my upper arm, pulling me out.

"Hey, hey! Hands off!" I slapped his hand off. I kept glancing from him to Fahad because I was scared he was going to bleed out. The wound wasn't deep but there was blood. Loads of it. Damn it, this was frustrating.

"Bhabhi, you need to come with me. Zohaib bhai wants to meet you." Salman said as he slowly let go of me. He seemed dead serious as he eyed me carefully.

"First of all, the engagement broke so I am not your 'bhabhi' anymore. Secondly, I have no reason to meet Zohaib anymore."

"Bhabhi, the engagement isn't over until Zohaib bhai decides it. I really don't want to drag you so please come with me peacefully." Salman took a step towards me but I held my ground. Calling the police wasn't going to work in this situation. I knew the influence these idiots had over the cops. Fahad was the one who was supposed to handle me but he is out cold too. The fuck do I do, now?

"What is Zohaib planning to do? There is nothing left to talk about." I stalled the conversation as I tried to think of a way out of this.

"He is hoping to continue the engagement and marry you. Make amends, you know." I gaped at Salman. The audacity to even think of this. Marry me? I would rather die. No wait, there was a better idea. I glanced in Fahad's direction because I sensed movement from his side. His hands were twitching. It was a good sign that he was gaining consciousness despite the injury. It meant that the head trauma wasn't deep enough to mess with his system.

"Look, Salman, there is something you need to know. More like your brother needs to know." I intentionally stepped towards Fahad. I noticed his eyes fluttering open while he groaned out in pain holding his head. I had to be very careful about this. I can't jeopardize this plan. Never mind that, I can't believe I am actually going to say this out loud. "There is no way I can marry your brother anymore."

"What are you talking about? Why not?" Salman had also noticed that Fahad was coming about. I felt my heart thumping in my chest. I hope Fahad takes the hint because he needs to play along to what is about to happen. Once Fahad had regained his senses, he snapped his head left and right, probably looking for me until he saw me standing beside the door. His eyes then connected with Salman's. Fahad opened the dashboard and took out a pistol before pulling on the door handle. This was the moment. Fahad had to hear what I had to say too. He stumbled towards me with a gun pointed towards Salman. I didn't give him a chance to speak. He might ruin it.

"The reason I can't marry your brother is because I am already legally married to Fahad. Humara nikkah ho chukka howa hai. (We have already signed the marriage papers.)" I made sure the words were loud and clear. I turned to look at Fahad hoping the idiot had taken the hint and heard me properly. He stared at me for a few seconds in silence until I saw the familiar twinkle in his eyes. That only meant one thing. He had caught on.

"What? How? What the fuck?" I could tell Salman was processing the information while Salman's guards had their rifles pointed towards Fahad. "Wait, I don't get it. When? And why?" Salman pinched the bridge of his nose as he looked between the two of us. I had to think of something to back this up.

"Humare nikkah ussi haftay hogaya tha jab menay tumhare bhai ka sar phora tha. (We married the same week that I popped your brother's head open.)" Fahad interjected as he stood beside me leaning against the car. I had a feeling he couldn't see straight because he kept blinking but he remained calm and composed. "Aur rahi baat ke kyun kiya hai tou khudi socho ke dou pyar karne walay nikkah nahi karengay tou aur kya karengay? Haina, begum? (As for why we got married, we are two people who love each other so isn't it natural to do so? Isn't that right, wife?)"

I had confirmed one thing today. Even if he was in absolute misery, he won't waste a second to mess with me. He thrived on this. I was pretty sure, Fahad was seeing spots but the smirk on his face concealed all his pain. When Salman didn't reply, I decided to add my points as well.

"Tell Zohaib that there isn't anything left of us now. The engagement is broken and I already belong to another man. This is for the best. There is no point dragging me to Zohaib now." When Salman didn't answer, I took it as our cue to leave. "Now, if you will excuse us, I have to take my husband to the hospital. Get in the car, Fahad." I whispered the last bit to Fahad. I knew making him back off was going to be a challenge but he seemed so smug right now that he just complied with my words. I had a feeling I wasn't going to hear the end of it.

"Agar koi shak hai tou men nikkah nama ki aik copy tum logon ko bhi bhejwa dunga. (If you still have any doubts then I will send a copy of our marriage papers to you guys too.)" Fahad boasted proudly and I wanted to slap the back of his head to shut up. "That's right, you fucker, she is mine now."

I sighed harshly as I pushed him into the passenger seat while he flicked his middle finger at Salman. How mature. I then nodded my head at Salman and walked towards the driving seat. I am glad it was Salman who had come to take me. Had it been Zohaib, I have a feelings shot would have been fired and we would have come out with more damage. Salman was the more level headed brother. He and I had developed a weird bond in the short time that I had known him. Yes, he was a flirt but he had set his boundaries with me, his Ex-Bhabhi and I don't think he was planning to cross them anytime soon.

Salman and his guards didn't stop me as I reversed the car and decided to drive to the nearest hospital. I had to think of an excuse for my family on why I was running late. I googled the nearest hospital and sighed in relief when I realized it was only 11 minutes away. I placed the phone in the phone holder as I started following the GPS tracker. I handed Fahad a couple of tissues without looking at him but I could feel his burning gaze on my side.

"Stop staring at me and press this on your forehead. Don't worry, the wound isn't deep and the max you are going to need are 2-3 stitches." I explained as I took a left turn from the signal. I had kept my eyes on the rear view mirror too incase Salman planned to follow suit but fortunately he had backed off for now.

"I don't feel any pain. Just Euphoria." I could hear the amusement in his voice. I knew he was enjoying this. He was crazy.

"Just how hard did you hit your head for you to feel joy?" I tried to mask my emotions but it was really hard when I could feel him staring right at me. I knew the moment I glanced in his direction, I would be in trouble so I focused on the road instead.

"I don't know but waking up to hear you say I am your legal husband definitely numbed any pain I had. Just how long was I out for? Did we sign the papers while I was unconscious?" Fahad chuckled and then seethed out as he gripped his forehead again.

"You really shouldn't be joking around right now. I know the wound isn't fatal but it is an injury." I told him sternly completely ignoring his last statement. I finally looked at him and he had the biggest smirk on his face. His eyes twinkled mischievously as he pressed the tissues on his forehead. "Close your eyes, focusing on things will strain your wound right now.

"Jaise ap hukam karo, begum. (Whatever you say, wife.)" Fahad settled into the passenger seat proudly as he grinned at me while closing his eyes. Did this man literally feel no pain? He looked so happy. The rest of the car ride was silent as I stopped infront of the emergency ward. Fahad had fallen asleep again and I didn't blame him. It was better to sleep in this state.

"Fahad, wake up, we are here." He grated in his sleep as he slowly opened his eyes.

"I don't think I can walk on my own now."

"I know. The blood loss probably made you lightheaded. I am surprised you are even conscious right now." I genuinely was impressed by his resilience. I had seen trauma patients before, they weren't conscious like he was.

"I wouldn't miss this for the world." He smiled genuinely at me as I walked around the car and opened passenger seat door. I offered my arm for him to hold which he gladly took. "You sure, you can hold my weight?"

"Not really. Should I call one of the attendants?" I answered truthfully as I carefully rose him from the seat. He stretched his arm and placed it over my shoulders, resting his entire body on me.

"Nope. I would rather lean on you right now. I can't miss this opportunity." He grinned and then flinched. I could tell he was feeling the pain more now. His apparent state of euphoria was wearing out. We slowly walked towards the ward and fortunately a male nurse decided to accompany us that Fahad glared at.

"You go with the nurse, I have to fill up some papers." I told Fahad who reluctantly nodded as the male nurse took him away. I went to the Emergency counter to do the proper documentation and pay the fees for the early services. Once I was done, I decided to join Fahad in the ward. He was on the third bed to the right with his eyes wide open. His eyes softened when he saw me. I handed the receipts to the doctor on duty who was supposed to administer his medicine.

"I am a doctor too, so you can tell me what you are planning to give him too." I told the doctor on duty. His name read Kashif on the name tag attached to his lab coat. He seemed taken aback at my reply but then smiled as he started explaining the medicines to me. From the corner of my eye, I felt Fahad glaring at us, not me, but him. What was he even doing right now? I decided to ignore him as I agreed with the medicines he had prescribed. I paid for those too as the nurse went to get them from the pharmacy.

Once Kashif left, I dragged a chair and sat beside Fahad who wasn't grinning anymore.

"Does it hurt a lot?" The bleeding had stopped but he was releasing a rather murderous aura. I am guessing the pain came in surges.

"Yeah, it does. In my heart. Did you have fun flirting with the doctor on duty?" I stared at him in shock. Was that why he was so grumpy? Lord, this man was bipolar. He then glared daggers in Kashif's back.

"I wasn't flirting. I was confirming the medicines they were going to give you." I then pressed my hand on his forehead to make sure he didn't have a fever. There were cases when your body goes into overdrive because of the accident causing a mild fever. The moment I pressed my hand on his forehead, he gave me a very intense look. "Well, you don't have a fever at least."

"Say, Rubab, I know we have averted the crisis right now but you and I both know that Zohaib won't back down without a fight. Once he finds out that it's a lie, he is going to come back with far more force."

"Yeah, I know. That's true." I sighed as I looked at my hands until I felt his hand on mine.

"Well then, how about we get married for real?" This time, I wasn't surprised at his statement. Instead I said something, neither of us expected.

"Can we do it without anyone finding out? Anyone apart from our families?"
