Chapter Twelve

Rubab's POV:

We rushed her to the nearest emergency ward. Fahad opted to drive because Kamran kept panicking and looking back at her so I was sure he was going to drive us to our deaths instead. I wasn't ready to forgive him just yet but he seemed sincere when he said he didn't hurt her.

Plus Zoya was unconsciously holding onto his hand tightly so I couldn't really kick him out of the car either. There were no bruises on her body. In fact, her dilated pupils and blue finger nails and lips indicated that she had fainted from some kind of psychological shock instead.

In over ten years of our friendship, I had seen her like this only once before. Back then, if I recall right, she fainted because some of her repressed memories had surfaced due to old pictures she discovered in an album. I had to make sure it was the same episode though. I glared at Kamran with eyes that could freeze an ocean but it didn't penetrate much through his exterior.

"Before fainting, did she hold her head or scream?" Kamran seemed taken aback at this but he quickly nodded his head. So some of her repressed memories were coming back then. Was Kamran related to her past somehow? This can't be good for her mental health. "What did you say to her to cause this?"

"I-I just tri-tried to re-remind her th-that we used to be friends when we were little. I do-don't kno-know why...why she doesn't remember me." Kamran stuttered while holding her hand tightly and using both his hands to rub them against her hand. I guess he was trying to keep her warm. I simply blinked at his response. So he is related to her past.

I couldn't disclose Zoya's personal details to him, it wasn't my story to tell. It took years for Zoya to get back her bubbly, happy self after that incident. Misha and I vowed never to mention that part of her life again. It was a request from her family too. Anushay ceased to exist the moment she forgot her memories and it was struck off from all records.

God, I didn't know what to do in this situation. I knew the technique on how to revive her immediately but if she woke up and saw Kamran beside her, she would suffer another emotional shock again and I don't know how that would work in the long run because I still don't know yet if he is supposed to be a positive presence for her or negative. I can't trust this man's words at all.

Zoya saw something in her memories that caused her faint. It could be anything. I need to get her away from Kamran first. But how the hell do I do that? Do I just wake her up and let it unfold? Going to a hospital will just make everything worse. If her father or brothers hear about this, it will end really badly and that wouldn't be good for Zoya's mental health either. I frowned as I looked down at Zoya. I could feel her pulse but the blood wasn't rushing to her head just yet.

"What are you thinking Rubab? I can tell there is something going on. Come on. You can tell me." Fahad questioned in an assuring way as he looked at me through the rear view mirror. "Is there something we don't know? Tell me, we will help. It doesn't seem like it but we really care for Zoya too."

For once, his playful eyes seemed to comfort me, assuring me silently that no matter what happens, he won't let it get out of hand. He will help me out like he did in the past. That was one of the very rare good traits he had. Fahad Abroo always managed to calm my nerves in uncalled for situations. For a second, I remembered how he had helped me with Zohaib and reluctantly I closed my eyes as I decided to surrender once again to the man I promised myself I never would to.

"Fahad, I know how to treat Zoya. You need to stop the car." The moment our eyes connected, he stared at me for a few seconds before looking away and slowing the car down. He had that same look from that night when he knew I had given in and asked for his help. But this time I didn't phrase it out and yet he somehow knew. He always knew. Meanwhile, Kamran looked between the two of us.

"What? No way! We are taking her to the hospital." Kamran growled back but I threw a glare in his direction.

"I am a fucking doctor and you are the reason she is like this in the first place so sit the hell back down. Do you want her to be fine or not?" Kamran looked like he wanted to argue more but he held back when he looked down at Zoya whose lips were now turning purplish blue from lack of oxygen.

"She better be fine." He narrowed his eyes at me and I wanted to stab him.

"I should be saying that to you." I hissed back coldly.

"Alright, alright, you can do this to each other once she wakes up. What now?" Fahad rolled his eyes as the car came to a halt on the side of the road. I had to think of a plan soon. Something that would get these two out of her peripheral line of sight the moment she wakes up. There is no telling what would happen. I felt the wheels turning in my head. Ah, yes, that I could do. No matter how shameless they were, they would leave in that situation right?

"Both of you step outside now." Fahad didn't refuse as he opened the car door but as expected Kamran decided to bicker again.

"What? Why? No. I am going to stay beside Anushay." I sighed harshly as I looked at him again.

"I am going to take off some of her clothing items to loosen the pressure around her chest so she can breathe easily. Do you want to be here for that or do you have some human decency?" I was grateful that the windows of Fahad's car were tinted pitch black so you couldn't see anything from outside. Kamran looked down at Zoya and then up at me before his face turned pink and he stepped outside slamming the door shut behind him. Well, that resolves that problem. I turned to Fahad who was grinning at me.

"What are you smiling for?" I narrowed my eyes at him and he just gave me wicked smile before raising his hands up in surrender.

"Angry you is really adorable. I discovered a new side of the ice queen today. Show that to me more often." He winked before stepping outside as well. I decided not to let his words get to me since I had a patient to deal with.

Once they were far enough, I quickly rose her feet up in my lap so that the blood would rush to her brain and then resuscitated her by applying pressure to her chest. I also unclasped her bra so that it wouldn't suffocate her any more than it already had. It only took a few seconds for her to slowly come back to consciousness. I tried to cover the light coming from the front so it wouldn't blind her. The tinted mirrors really helped.

"Ru-Rubab?" She blinked at me, her pupils were slowly focusing on me. I warmed up her cold hands as I nodded slowly so she could pick up what was happening around her. This was taught to us in the first aid short course. "What happened? Ugh, my head is killing me." She tried to get up but I kept her down.

"Your legs need to stay up for you be fully conscious, just stay low like this." I explained and she seemed confused but didn't question more. I had to figure out how bad the psychological shock was. I had to tread carefully right now. Had she lost any more memories? Had she gained any instead? How much did she remember? I looked at her carefully while letting the warmth from my hands transfer to hers. "Do you remember the mall? Your heel hit Kamran's head and he was chasing you?" She blinked at me and then her eyes bulged out. Yeah, she definitely remembered that.

"Oh my God. The bathroom. The cubicle. He broke the door down." Zoya said slowly but surely.

"I knew he hurt you, I am going to kill him." I tried to get up but she immediately gripped my hand again to stop me.

"No, no, he didn't even touch me. He just tried to make me remember the time I was Anushay." Zoya assured me and I decided to sit back down again. "And then, all these images started to come back. It was memories I didn't know I had. There was a little boy. His name was Kamran but I called him Sher instead." I saw Zoya smile softly for a few seconds before frowning again. "At first there was this stabbing pain in my head and it was just so excruciating that I blacked out completely. The last thing I saw before fainting was Kamran's face. But then once I blacked out, there were other images. It was like seeing a dream except I knew it wasn't a dream because everything just felt so real in it."

"What did you see?" I was relieved to see that Zoya's speech wasn't slurred. It showed that the shock hadn't affected her brain as negatively as I had thought.

"I would tell you but before that, where are we? Whose car is this? And why do I feel so loose around my chest?" She touched her boobs in confusion while looking down at them.

"It belongs to Fahad. He and Kamran are standing outside over there. Kamran brought an unconscious you to us at the entrance of the mall. I lied to them and said that in order to revive you I had to strip you and they had to leave the car. I didn't know yet whether Kamran was good for you or not so I didn't want you to experience another shock." I explained and she looked around and peaked outside to notice their backs towards us. "Also I unclasped your bra to improve your blood circulation. We were going to rush you to the hospital but that would mean alarming your family and I didn't know if you were ready for that yet."

"God, how are you this smart? I am so proud of you. How did you remain calm in all this?" Zoya questioned and for some reason, my eyes traveled to Fahad's back immediately where he was trying to, I think, comfort Kamran awkwardly in some way. I had to admit, everything aside, he had the ability to calm me down without saying much. This was second time in a row that he able to do that.

"It just happened you know." I replied while looking back at Zoya but she just rose her eyebrow and gave me a knowing smile. Fortunately, she didn't probe any further.

"Alright, now we need to think of a plan because we might be in trouble." Zoya said it so calmly that I didn't process what she said at first.

"Why would you say that?" Whenever Zoya said that, it always scared me. Always. God I wish Misha was here. She was always able to lower the anxiety levels somehow.

"Because I remember parts of my memory from my childhood but I can't let Kamran know yet. Not until I have confirmed something first. No one can know except us." I was surprised to see Zoya so calm especially since her past memories were apparently traumatic enough to be repressed but now was not the time to think about that. "So what do we do now?"

That was a great question and clearly Fahad's broad back didn't have the answers I was looking for.
