"Miya, it's hot! Let's go!" My friend groaned, tugging my shirt sleeve.
"Hold on Mo!" I told her, "I need to find that watch!" I moved the detector from side to side, awaiting a beep, but nothing happened.
Mo-anna rolled her eyes. "Oh Please Miya! Maybe a dog ate it, lets go!"
"Well thats encouraging." I muttered under my breath.
The ocean breeze blew our way, which felt amazing in the summer heat! I wiped sweat off my brow.
Suddently Mo-anna gasped, "Look!" She pointed further down the beach. I looked, the sand blinding me, making me sqint.
"There's Jason!" She continued, then she sighed dreamly, "You had a crush on him in 7th grade."
I shook my head, Jason works as a life guard, monday through friday. Don't ask me how I know.
I smiled, "More like you had a crush on him." I shoved her playfully.
"Anyways, ready for school?" I joked.
Mo sighed, "They just let us out, and you're already thinking about school?!"
I shrugged, "Maybe."
"Well, well, well, who is walking on my beach this morning?" We heard a familiar voice say.
We both looked a little far off to the right, near the ocean, thank goodness it was low tide.
Laying on the sand, was our old rival, or should I say, my old rival. Mrs. Penelope Kazoo. But everyone calls her Penny, thank goodness!
She's the most popular girl in school, or should I say island. We only have one school on the island.
So we basically know everyone here. Her dad owns a big business, so she thinks everything is hers.
Including the beach.
"What are you staring at? Nerd?!" She said, rudely. Her perfect blonde hair gently swaying in the breeze.
"Nothing." I said quickly. Mo-anna, being the braver one, said, "We were looking at your face, now, if you'll excuse us, we have to go."
Her best friend Brittney, rolled her eyes, as they wached us leave.
"Geez, thanks Mo." I said sheepishly.
"No prob." She nodded in my direction.
I picked the detector up, and swung it on my shoulder.
"So, do you want to go to my house?" Mo-anna asked.
"Absolutly!" I replied, making Mo smile.
"Mom wants you over anyway." She added.
"And you don't?" I teased.
"You know I love having you over!" She grinned, I laughed.
We turned down the beaten up road, with a few hotels and summer houses.
"Is your dad coming soon?" I asked. There was silence between us, which felt uncomtrable. Mo sighed.
"He's staying another week," She said sadly, "I just think he cares about his job more than his family!" She huffed, "Or maybe he's having an affair."
Thats where I put my foot down.
"Don't put those thoughts in your heart."
"Oh yea?! How would you know?" I knew she didn't mean what she said, so she quickly apologized.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean too!"
I smiled, "It's okay."

We finally got into her small house. Her mom loves plants, so she literally has a greenhouse in their back yard. Where she has all sorts of plants and flowers, you name it.
The house smelled delicious.
"Mmmm..." I sniffed, "what is your mom baking?" I asked.
"Guess." She said, her eyes shining, "It's your favorite!"
"Cobbler?"
"Nope."
"That ice cream cherry thing?"
"Sundae," she corrected, "and nope."
"Strawberry..."
"Nothing with strawberries." She interuppted.
"What about the..."
"Vanilla waffles with m&m's overflowing with whipped cream?" She asked, "Close, but nope."
I thought for a minute, "Is it..."
"Chocolate chip Pizza!" We said together.
We walked into the kitchen, both smelling the aroma.
"Miya! So nice to see you again!" Mo's mom exclaimed.
"You too Mrs. Cora!" I grinned at her.
"Well then," she said, "sit down, the pizza's ready!"
"Mmmm...well we can smell it all the way in the living room!" Mo-anna explained.
"I bet!" Mrs. Cora nodded, "Making this, made me hungry!"
She put the chocolate chip pizza on the stove, and cut us each a slice.
I said a small prayer, and digged into mine first. The gooey, soft, dough oozing in my mouth. Making me have goose bumps.
"You knew I would be here, didn't you?" I asked, with my mouth full. Mrs. Cora laughed.
Mo shrugged, grinning, "Well, I knew you wouldn't back out of it."

About two hours later, I was saying good bye, and thanking them for the delicious pizza.
I turned on my familiar street, and walked home.
My house isn't very big. Why would it be? After my mom left us, the house was big enough for me and my dad.
Plus, the beach isn't too far, and thats the way I love it.
I opened the door without knocking. Took off my shoes, and went to my room, to put away the detector.
My room was a mess. Papers all over the desk, clothes in a heep in the corner of my room.
The dust is starting to collect on my small book shelf, which just has random books about the ocean, most of them are about whales or dolphins.
Then there is one story book about a mermaid, that my mom wrote before she left us. Dad kept insisting me to throw it away, but I refused.
The book is by far one of the memories I have of my mom.
I left my room. Once I did, I heard laughter in the kitchen. One, was my dads, and the other one was...a female's?
After mom left, Dad has never been interested in any other female.
I stepped into the kitchen, and my calculation were correct.
There was dad, and an unfamiliar women sitting across from him. She had dark brown hair, and hazel eyes, that seemed to bore into you.
Dad was laughing at whatever she had just said.
"Dad?" I interrupted, clearing my throat.
He seemed to stiffen a little, as he looked up at me.
"Sweety! How are you?" He asked me.
I shrugged, "Fine, I guess, but who's this?" I gestured towards the female sitting at the table.
He looked at her then at me. The women also seemed to be at a lost for words.
"She's a friend from work." He finally managed to say. "This is Chloe, Chloe, meet my daughter, Miya."
Chloe nodded towards me, "Pleasure to meet you, your father told me so much about you!"
I gave a short smile, then turned back to dad, "Dad, I'm not little anymore!" I said coldly, tears threatening to escape, "I think I know whats going on, why is it so hard to say that you like each other!" I walked away without another word.
Went I got to my room, I closed the door carefully. I'm glad it's already dark. I layed down on my bed, and let the tears go.
It sucks that I can't afford a cell phone. I would have called Mo and told her everything, but then again, she doesn't have one either.
In these parts, you need to be rich to afford a cell phone, much less, service.
Tomorrows Sunday, I'll see Mo at church.
With that in mind, I fell into a dreamless sleep.
