It was strange to see Ethan stood on the top deck, stood as casually as though he re every day, but this was no casual visit. It was clear as day that he had come for a reason, it was simply a case of finding out what. He smiled at Jeanette, Cameron and Enoch as they approached him, everyone else was already there, waiting and watching Ethan, wondering what he was about to do. Leo walked over to Jeanette immediately, he looked truly shaken, as though he had seen a ghost, Jeanette gave him a weak smile, she knew he felt the same way she did.

"Don't give me that look Leo, you know I did what I did for the greater good of us all." Ethan said, Leo looked down, refusing to meet Ethan's icy gaze, Jeanette put a hand on his shoulder comfortingly.

"What do you want Ethan?" Cameron asked bravely, no one seemed to be able to speak.

"I want you to join me, join us and fight for a greater nation, we can be great." Ethan smiled, he seemed so generally happy about what he was saying, it almost made it believable.

"We will never go with you." Emma announced, weaving through the crowd so she could face the boy.

"I don't care about you, I care about my friends, my family." Ethan hissed at her, before turning back towards Miss Eagle's peculiars, along with Horace and Enoch, who were stood on one half of the group, whilst the rest of miss Peregrine's peculiars were on the other half. "I can protect you, help you, it doesn't have to be like this." Ethan said, Nathan made a strange sort of sobbing noise, and even Leo was so scared he let out a whimper.

"Ethan we won't go with you, we just want our ymbryne back, we want all the ymbrynes, we just want this to be over." Jeanette spoke up.

"The world is going to burn Jenny, the ymbrynes have ruined our kind, and we need to take back our lives, please come with me, we've been through so much, but we've had it so wrong. The wights will help us, Miss Eagle, she was the true evil. No, we can watch the world burn and then make a new age of peculiars!" Ethan said, Jenny and Cameron went pale, even Nathan seemed to have understood what he meant.

"You're working with her! After all we've been through! Ethan how could you!" Jeanette yelled, there were tears in her eyes.

"Evie would be ashamed of you." Nathan whispered.

"Don't bring her into this!" Ethan hissed, he threw an icy spear at his brother, a shadow batted it away, Stephan was watching Ethan angrily.

"You dare hurt any of them and I will kill you!" He said slowly and precisely, his eyes were all black, the shadows had taken over.

Ethan merely laughed. "schlafe wenig Dämon, schlafe meinen Dämon, es ist nicht deine Zeit, schlaf wenig Dämon, schlafe meinen Dämon, du gehörst zu mir." Stephan's face went slack, he shook his head sluggishly, as though trying to fight something and then collapsed. Aimee appeared out of the shadows, kneeling over her boyfriend's body.

"What have you done to him?" She screamed.

"He'll wake up, if I tell him to. He's mine now." Ethan shrugged.

"He is most certainly not." Jeanette said angrily.

"Oh come on now Jenny, what use would you have for a demon? Especially seeing as you won't come with me." Ethan said, she shook her head.

"He's not just a demon, that does not define him, he is more than that, he's family, just like you used to be." Jeanette answered. "Now let him go."

"We can still be family, I just want you all to be safe, this world isn't safe, I don't want to lose all of you." Ethan said, looking at each of them in turn.

"You should have thought of that before you sided with the enemy." Leo said. Ethan shook his head.

"Leo, we aren't the enemy, we are the salvation of peculiar kind. Come on Jo, you don't like fighting, I know you don't, you won't have to fight if you come with me. We can even bring your other friends, there's room for everyone, as long as you come with me." He looked at each of them again, regarding Miss peregrine's peculiars for the very first time.

"You are the enemy Ethan, that was your choice, and you made it. Now please let Stephan go and leave." Jeanette said.

"before we make you." Emma added, her hands flaming spires of weaponry, she nodded at Jeanette, who smiled back. The peculiars were united.

"Are you really going to fight me?" Ethan laughed, before being hit with a bolt of electricity, curtesy of Josef, Emma threw a ball of fire at him, he dowsed the flames and looked at them all as though they were disappointments. "Very well."

The battle began, and it was a disorganised mess, peculiarities were flying everywhere, but after two hours of fighting, Ethan had won, he had frozen everyone but Leo, Jeanette and Stephan, who still lay unconscious. Jeanette looked at Cameron's frozen form, the boy still seemed to be able to see, he was not fully frozen, rather just encased in ice. She nodded at him, he blinked twice to show he understood.

"Ethan, what do you wish to accomplish?" Jeanette asked.

"you don't understand the power you have allowed me to hold. In a few words I could kill him, or get him to kill you." He smiled evilly. "But I won't, I don't want to harm you, I just want you to come with me, and be safe."

"Let him go Ethan, none of this is his fault, please, just wake him up, unfreeze the others and go." Leo said with a sigh.

"I will let him go, if that will convince you I'm not the bad guy." Ethan sighed. Jeanette glanced at Cameron, but the ice that had trapped him was empty. She wanted to smile, but that would have given the game away. She just nodded an answer to his statement.

"erwache meinen Dämon, ich befreie dich. erwache meinen Dämon, du bist frei." Ethan said, at once Stephan stirred, he was pale and he looked perplexed.

"what? What happened?" He mumbled. "Where's Aimee."

Before anyone could answer his question, a small hole appeared in the air behind Ethan, who didn't notice, and Cameron walked through it, brandishing a pan. Once the hole closed, Cameron hit his cousin hard on the head, causing the boy to collapse and the ice to melt. Leo looked like he was about to cry.

"I know you're here." Ethan said, he was sat in a small cell in the deepest depths of the ship, and he knew exactly who was watching him. He smiled. "Leo, come on."

Tentatively, Leo walked out of the shadows, his eyes meeting Ethan's.

"Are we alone?" Ethan asked, Leo paused for a moment, and nodded. Ethan smiled again. "Good."

Leo didn't say a word, his eyes trained on the floor.

"You're my guard aren't you, how ironic." A smile played on Ethan's lips. "They put me here on purpose, ice won't break this metal. I bet that was Jenny's idea, or was it you?" Again Leo didn't answer, but his silence was all Ethan needed to hear. "Oh Leo, you'll never really belong, will you? Your father didn't want you, they're using you, your only real place is with me."

Leo shook his head, his eyes filled with tears that threatened to fall and show Ethan how upset he was. "Why? Why are you doing this?" He muttered his question.

"I wasn't going to leave you." Ethan answered, Leo looked up, his eyes meeting Ethan's, tears silently falling down his cheeks. "Don't cry Leo." His tone was soft. Leo silently wiped his eyes on the sleeve of his jumper. "Leo?"

"What?" Leo mumbled.

"Come here." Ethan said, Leo shook his head. "Please? Just open the door, and sit with me?"

"No, Ethan this isn't okay, you can't do this, I can't do this." Leo muttered.

"Please Leo, Please." Ethan begged, he could see Leo's resolve wavering. "I just want your company."

"You have my company." Leo pointed out.

"Leo, please." Ethan said, watching Leo's resolve breakdown in front of him, he had always been a persuasive person.

"If you promise you won't escape?" Leo's hand hovered over the keys in his pocket.

"I wouldn't do that to you." Ethan said in a sincere tone. Leo nodded and took the keys from his pocket, opening the cell and walking inside. Ethan smiled at the boy as he timidly sat beside him. "Don't cry Leo." He said, there were still tears on Leo's face from earlier. Ethan gently wrapped his arms around the boy holding him close, he ran a hand through the boy's hair gently, before looking at the boy sadly. "I am so sorry my love." He whispered, causing Leo to frown and look up at him.

"Ethan, what are you-?" But he never finished his sentence and ice started making its way up his back. "Ethan stop, please, stop!" Leo whispered, his lips turning blue, his spine and legs completely frozen, his eyes beginning to close. "Ethan."

"I'm sorry, I'll find you again." Ethan whispered back at the boy, who was now completely frozen in his arms. He brushed Leo's dark hair away from his frosted forehead and planted a kiss there, before carrying the boy's body outside the cell and gently laying him on the ground. "I'm sorry Leo." With that he left.
