Chapter 1.

Angelica's POV.

11 hours earlier.

" Angel, wake up!" Called the voice of my best friend Jessica.

My response was to turn over, groan and throw my pillow over my head to block out the noise.

" Angel, come on. You're mother made pancakes. Get up!!" She cried.

I wanted to ignore her, but after what happened last time, I'm not sure that's the best idea.

Last time she ran and dived on my bed, landing on me. Which might I add, hurt.

" Just a few more minutes. " I whined.

" Nope. No can do. It's yours birthday to say and it's already 9:00. If you sleep anymore you'll waste half the day. " says Jessica.

" Sleep is a good cause. Beauty rest." I reply.

She sighs loudly in annoyance. She walks up and rips the pillow away. She then goes over to the window and yanks open the blinds, allowing the blinding sun to spread across the room and into my eyes.

I yell and shield my eyes with my hands. " Get up. You're going to spend the day with me and you're family and then tonight. We're going to a party." She says before going through the shelves of my dresser and yanking out some clothes before tossing them at me.

" Get dressed. Don't make me come back here. I'll bring syrup next time. " she says.

I know that doesn't sound threatening, but it is when she hears it up and dumps it on you.

She turns and walks out the door to my room, closing the door after her. I wait until I hear her footstep disappear before I sit up.

I look around for my pillow. Crap she took it with her. No fair!

I throw the covers off before throwing my feet off the bed and standing up.

I then turn to check out the outfit she grabbed. It was a small yellow shirt, dark jeans and of course my nice tennis shoes. I approve.

I quickly changed before going over to the mirror that sat above my dresser. I grabbed my comb off of it and brushed out my straight dark brown hair that went down a ways passed my shoulders.

I then lean my head back and comb it into a pony tail. Some of my hair is shorted in the front, so it hangs out of the pony tail and down the side of my face. I can pull off this look, so I'm ok with it.

I walk over to my room door and open it before cutting off my room light, which Jessica had turned on. I walk down the hallways into the den.

We have a nice one story house. It's not that big, but after all. It's just my parents and I that live here. It's cosy though.

As I get closer to the kitchen I take a whiff of what's cooking and I can't help the smile that comes across my face.

Pancakes, bacon and I'm hoping mom cooked some eggs as well. I walk into the kitchen to see my hope for eggs was fulfilled.
" Good morning Angelica. Food is just about ready. Take you're seat next to Jessica and I'll make you're food for you." Says my mother.

" You don't have to do that." I tell her.

" Nonsense. It's you're birthday and I want too. Now sit. " says my mother.

I smile and sit next to my best friend at the table. Mom soon brings over two plates stuffed with eggs, bacon and syrup and butter covered pancakes.

We thank her before we start eating. Man I love it when she cooks this food.

Soon my mom sits down with us and we all eat together. The door opens a few minutes later to show my father.

" Hey dad." I greeted.

" There's the birthday girl. Sweet 16 huh. How does it feel?" He asked with a grin.

I grin. " Good so far. Can't complain. " I say.

He laughs and grabs himself some food before sitting down with us.

" We, meaning you're mother and I, have a gift to give you." Says my father.

He sets a small box in front of me. " It's why he left early this morning. He went out of the pack limits to get it. " says my mother.

I take that small box and open it. I can't help the small gasp of wonder that passes my lips at the sight of it.

There in the box sits a necklace, not made of silver of course, that has my initials on it.

I grin again and look at them. " This is beautiful. I love it. Thank you. " I say taking it out.

" Let me help you out if on." Cried Jessica. I laugh and let her.

Once it's on I look down at it. " We're so glad you like it. We thought of it together. " says my mother.

" No no, not like. The proper word for it is love. " I say.

They laugh and grin back. Together the four of us finish eating before Jessica drags me off with her.

Today is a beautiful day. Not to hot, not to cold, not to windy either. It feels great.

I have a very good feeling about today. " Come on. I promised my brother I would take you to see him. He's still got a huge crush on you." Says Jessica.

" You want to check to see if I'm his mate don't you?" I say.

" Maybe, but it's highly unlikely. " says Jessica.

I chuckle. Jessica is the middle child in her family. She has a younger sister and a older brother.

Her older brothers name is Todd. Ever since he saw me when I was ten and came over to Jessica's for the first time, he's had this huge crush on me. He was only two years older.

He hasn't found his mate yet, so now that I can find mind, Jessica wants to see if I'm his mate. It's highly unlikely, because if I was his mate he would have known and told her the second he was able tto find his mate.

He hasn't, which more then likely means I'm not his mate. We walk over to her house and she opens the door.

" We're home!!" She calls.

Laughter was heard throughout the house as her family laughed at that. It gets old after a while because she does it every single time we come to her house.

The two of us walk in closing the door behind us. Footsteps pounding down the steps came before Todd grabbed the bannister and swung himself around to land where I could see him.

We quickly locked eyes. Nothing. Deep inside I'm very relieved. No offense to Todd. I like him, but only as a friend. I don't think I could take being mated to him.

I don't think I'm ready for it anyway. Being mated to someone, I just turned 16, like just a few hours ago. I don't need a mate just yet.

I see disappointment in his eyes as he realizes were not mates too. " Awe, well that's disappointing. I'm still not going to give up trying to get you to like me. " he says.

" Try all you want. I'm still going to say. I only like you as a friend Todd. " I say.

He smirks. " For now. " he states. I roll my eyes. He never gives up. He then gasped. " Oh oh here. I got you this. "

He walks up and takes something out of his pocket. It's a bracelet. Small and with little round pictures of Jessica and her family, my family, himself and me.

I smile. " It's amazing thank you."

" Yay, I know you'd like it. Can I help you out it on?" He looks hopeful.

I hold my wrist out. " Sure, go ahead. " I say.

He grins and the grin lights up his entire face. He clips it around my small wrist. " Wow, " I say, moving my wrist around to admire it. " a bracelet that actually fits. "

Jessica and Todd laugh. " Jessica told me what size I needed to get. " says Todd

I grin at them. " This birthday is shaping up to be a great birthday indeed. " I say.

I hang around with them until it's time for lunch. We grab a blanket and go into their back yard.

While Todd and I spread out the blanket, Jessica runs inside to grab food for us to eat. She comes back outside with her younger sister.

Once they set the food down. Her sister hands me a home made card. I grin. Her sisters only seven years old.

" Thank you. " I say.

" Read it." She cried.

I do. She had drawn a picture of a guy standing next to me holding my hand. Thankfully this guy didn't look like Todd.

He looked much different with blonde hair. I smile at it. It says, Wish you the best of luck finding you're mate, and happy birthday. I look at her and grin. " It's wonderful. Thank you. " I say.

She squeals in joy and hugs me. She then runs inside to eat with her mother. Her father was gone at the pack house.

We spread out the food and start eating. We eat lunch before laying back for about a hour or two. Watching the clouds roll by, laughing about old memories or what we think the clouds look like.

It's close to 3:00. Five is when Jessica wants to start getting ready for the party, which starts at 8:00.

Jessica and I have a job at a very busy restaurant just outside of the pack limits. It's a well known restaurant for werewolves, humans, and occasionally vampires.

I know it's a bit weird that they serves blood to vampires, but it's gets them money and the vampires can eat human food every now and then. They also do it so the human won't get suspicious.

I don't mind vampires really. I mean, as long as they aren't posing a threat to me or any other werewolves, their ok to me. Plus we have a peace treaty with them.

This restaurant hosts weekly Saturday night parties that start at 8:00 and last until about three or four in the morning. They close the restaurant on Sunday's.

That's for clean up and a couple other important things. Jessica and I get up after a few more minutes. We say bye to Todd before going to a great dress shop some of our pack members have in a little town in the middle of the pack.

We walk in and start looking around. Jessica refuses to let me wear any of my old dresses.

She says. " It's you're 16th birthday, I am not having my best friend walk around in old dresses. We're getting you a new one. "

I don't bother arguing with her. We walk around. I look at all the dresses I like. I hold up a red one, a purple on and a turquoise one. She says no to each.

" We're never going to find the perfect one." I say.

" Don't speak to soon Angel. " she calls me Angel for short.

I look at where she's pointing and see one we both like. It's a beautiful blue dress. Not light blue, more of a dark blue, but not dark like navy blue.

It would be a little higher then my knees, but not to high. It has nice straps and does not go to low around the neck. Which is fine by me.

We grab the dress. " This ones amazing. " I say.

" And lookie." She calls. I look and she's holding a matching pair of heels, that thankfully aren't too high. I grin.

We buy this outfit and quickly make our way back to her house. I go to her bathroom and change into it after taking a quick shower. She then does the same as I dry my hair in her room. By now it's 6:30.

She said they would have food there, which I knew they would because I have been to a few parties there before.

She soon comes in and helps me with my make up and manages to use a curling iron and curl my normally straight hair.

She takes a few strands in both front sides of my hair and pulls them back. The curls making it look amazing.

Once were both funny dressed we look at ourselves in the mirror. She's wearing a purple one that's a tad higher then mind and shoes to match. Her hair is almost like mine.

I had helped her with her make up. We then go down stairs. Todd's eyes almost looked like they were going to pop out given how much they were bulging  as he saw me.

I laughed. We were complimented by her family before we went to her car and she drove us to my house.

My parents were so happy to see us and they loved our outfits. I was wearing the bracelet and the necklace because they also match with the outfit.

" You two look so beautiful." Cried my mother.

" I have to agree on that. " says my father.

" Now don't stay out too late." My mother tells us.

" We won't. " I say.

" Oh and Angelica. Don't forget, if any guy won't quit bothering you or is making you feel uncomfortable, just kick him where it hurts and he will most likely leave you alone. " says my father.

" No worries dad. I'll remember.  " I say.

" Stay safe. " he says.

" We will." We yell back, getting back into Jessica's car and driving off to the restaurant. It's now 7:45. We took a while to get ready.

This should be fun. I'm excited. I look at Jessica and she turns the radio on. The speakers start playing Taylor Swifts song Bad Blood and together the two of us start singing it word for word.

This party should be good. I have a really good feeling about tonight.
