Chaoter 14 - Lessons
When we reached belles house we were greeted by her cat named Albert. He was her familiar she told me as we got through the door. Her parents weren't often in the house so she tended to have it to herself. I'm not going to lie when she used her magic it was beyond impressive and I wasn't used to it that's for sure. I watched in aww as she did her thing and pulled out the right books with her mind.
"Wow" I said and sat down at the couch in the reading room as she called it
"I know right, but hey you'll get used to it" she said
"So what books we got?" I asked
"Here we got the basics on Shadowhunter's, the hunter code, what species are out there, hidden places within the shadow world, languages in the shadow world, History of the shadow world" she said while handing me six books
"Six books damn and their thick too" I said
"Well start reading girly we need to be as prepared as possible" she said
"Prepared for what exactly?" I asked
"Well, anything and everything really" she said
"oh, and you need to start with telling me from the beginning when this all came back out" she added
"So a few months ago like three tops, Well, technically I felt this all start when I was twelve and they first put me into training" I said
"Okay, so when you felt it or when you do can you describe what exactly you feel?" she asked
"Pure rage, it starts small, but then builds and sometimes I can't stop what I say or do next, but that's not all it's like something trying to escape from me, and I get this feeling when I'm around certain people, Jax told me that it's my instincts telling me there is possible danger near" I said
"Okay and you mentioned the aura seeing thing right?" she asked
"Yeah Jax said not many people can do it, that he's only heard of two people before me ever being able to do it and they aren't even relatives of mine" I said
"Here I got it, this book says stuff about that very thing" she said while handing me the book
I took the book and started reading the page she was pointing towards when she handed me the book.
"The Herondale family line, particularly the females had Faerie blood in them which gave them the ability to distinguish between who was supernatural and who wasn't, Rosemary Herondale was the last known female of the line able to see auras around the supernatural beings" I read
"But that doesn't make sense as to how you have it?" Annabelle said
"I'm not the expert here, let's just keep reading" I said
"The Herondale line stopped when Rosemary went missing or disappeared out of nowhere and was never found again, it isn't known if she had children or not, but if she had and it were a girl then she too would have the Herondale ability" I read
"These Herondale people in the shadow world seem really high up in the popularity chain" Anna said
"Apparently Rosemary was part of the lost line of Herondale's coming from Tobias Herondale" I said
"What does it say on Tobias?" she asked
"Tobias was born into the Herondale family, after his older brother. The Herondales being infamous among their kind as heroes, or traitors, and brash and passionate people, Tobias was said to be different from the family and had been struggling to fit in and find his place among the Shadowhunter's even as a child. He did not have a love for Shadowhunting. However, because his father was a hard man and his mother a bit of a hysteric (according to), Tobias never fully considered the thought of leaving to try to live the life he might want and followed his parents as they raised him. Eventually, Tobias married, a match that surprised everyone as they were seemingly opposites. Nonetheless, the pair loved each other deeply, and, in at least this aspect, Tobias loved like a Herondale." I read
"Wow harsh I guess, but there isn't much more on Rosemary is there?" she asked
"Not much, some believe she had a child, but it's only legend really" I said
"What else do you think is important from that book?" she asked
"In 1828, Tobias was sent among a group of five Shadowhunter's to deal with a small cabal of wreaking havoc at Bavaria, Germany. Being the loyal soldier he was, Tobias went, even though he had not wanted to leave his ill and pregnant wife. The story that was passed down through generations of Shadowhunter's was that Tobias, being the youngest and least experienced in the group, fled during an attack by the summoned by the warlocks and left the others with him to die. They claimed that Tobias was frightened and distracted by the thought of his ill and pregnant wife at home. The four remaining Shadowhunter's allegedly suffered immensely; three were slaughtered by the demon—one disemboweled, one burned alive, one doused with acidic blood that dissolved him into dust—while the fourth, though disfigured by demonic burns, was returned by the warlocks as a warning to the Shadowhunter's. The truth, however, was that, in the Bavarian woods, Tobias encountered a warlock who knew his greatest fear and used it against him. The warlock gave him visions of a possible future (one that only came to pass because Tobias was unable to resist the warlock's deceit), of his wife and child in danger, particularly of Eva dying and being tortured. Thinking Eva was in terrible danger, worsened by the mental images the warlock kept hurling at him, Tobias's mind broke and he ran. Even though had known that Tobias went mad, they still considered his life forfeit for abandoning his post in battle, considered an actual crime and treason by the Clave, more so than the crime did to him. Since Tobias never returned, the Clave claimed Eva 's life in exchange for his. Eventually, Catarina found him wandering mad in the forest, not even knowing his own name, but was unable to save him. Catarina, however, was able to save his and Eva's child. She raised him, and the grew up in the world and originated what would be considered "a lost Herondale line"
"Wow, seems Tobias had it rough back then" she said
