Chapter Six

Frank's POV

He knew right off the bat what Reyna wanted to see him for. The past two days Reyna had been stressing and fussing over the sudden either that was ravaging the Roman camp. Frank also knew that a Senate meeting would be knocking on their door soon enough. Reyna had explained to Frank and Hazel what little information she had on Camp Half-Blood. Frank had thought it might have just been a situation concerning them but the next day he woke up to an eight inch blanket of snow. It had come during the night and the entire campus seemed unable to function. Walking was almost impossible let alone organizing training sessions.

Reyna had arrived at his door step looking angry as ever, though her look lost its effect, seeing as how her nose was bright red along with her cheeks. Frank had willingly turned into an elephant and allowed some if the Vulcan campers to attach covers to his tusks. In all Frank became a giant grey snow plow. It had taken quite some time but he eventually managed to clear a majority of the important streets. Reyna had taken to shamelessly shoveling snow out of pathways while Hazel swallowed up large chucks of it with the ground. Despite street access now in full function it was like everyone's brains had fallen out.

So today after going on a second snow plowing adventure Frank was shuffling down the street with Hazel tucked under his arm. He handled the cold better than she did and he could feel her shivering next to him.

"I wonder how everyone back at CHB is handling this." Hazel spoke between her chattering teeth.

"I don't know if they have it this bad." Frank tried to sound certain but he really couldn't. This entire situation was confusing him, he could only imagine what his friends were up to.

Arriving at Reyna's quarters Frank knocked hesitantly on the door. He was afraid of bad news, but at this point he wouldn't be surprised if he got any. A few seconds later the door opened revealing a side of Rehab he hadn't really seen before. She had dark circles under her eyes, her hair was in its usual braid but was rather messy, if was almost like she hadn't slept in a few days. Frank could see Hazel shooting him a look.

"Hey." Frank said smiling as Reyna stepped back to let them in. It was strange, Frank had never been inside Reyna's Praetor quarters before. It was the same as his but hers had a less home like feeling to it. There weren't a lot of decorations, then again Franks wasn't exactly a house full of paintings and ornaments.

Reyna led them to a table, it was small and had only two chairs but Reyna offered the other to Hazel. Frank assumed there were only two because Jason was the only person that visited Reyna before the war, and more recently Hylla had visited. Otherwise there wasn't the need for an extra chair for a person who wasn't going to ever appear. An awkward air filled the room at the situation, Reyna being perceptive noticed early on.

"I would have held the meeting somewhere else, but I figured it would be better if the entire campus didn't see me....like this." She explained wearily.

"It's fine." Hazel reassured smiling kindly.

"Yeah, besides it's nice to not worry about other people interrupting." It was a true statement on Franks part. Other times when a meeting was held there had always been interruptions and they would have to reschedule it for the same thing to happen yet again. Reyna nodded and for the first time in days produced some sort of a smile.

"Well, you obviously know that we have had some weather issues as of recently." Reyna sighed glancing out the window at the white world surrounding the camp. "And we've never had snow before."

"Do you think this has something to do with what's going on with Camp Half-Blood?" Hazel asked getting to the point rather fast. By the way the two girls were studying each other ,it was clear Frank was missing some sort of social cue or body language.

"If it doesn't then this has been the strangest coincidence I've ever seen." Reyna nodded. "You've probably felt the tension in the air lately. This matter isn't going to stay quiet much longer. apparently some of the campers have gotten snippets of info from their friends at Camp Half-Blood."

"Which means it's only a matter of time before the Senate gets involved." Frank grumbled. If there was anything he disliked about camp Jupiter it was the Senate meetings. Sure the Senate was a good thing to have but recently a large group of not-very-smart-people had been elected. How, Frank had no idea.

"Exactly, and we don't have any information to give them. So whatever they decide no matter how idiotic it is will have to be passed." Reyna noted half heartedly.

"Because we don't have information to overrule their decision." Hazel finished tapping her fingers on the table in thought.

"Which brings me to our last resort. I wasn't going to bother them when they have problems of their own, but they may be able to sway the council." Reyna brushed a piece of hair behind her ear before crossing her arms. "I think that if we want what's best for both camps we inform Annabeth and Percy of the Senate meeting and invite them to join us. The others can come to, I'm open to any help right now."

"What if they can't come?" Hazel asked worriedly.

"Then I will post pone the meeting and go to them. You are welcome to join me if you want." Reyna offered, a glimmer of hope sparking in her eyes.

"I'm okay with whatever you decide as long as we don't have to go through the Senate meeting." Frank offered up with little thought. Besides I've missed them, he added in his head. With it settled Hazel and Frank left quickly allowing Reyna to settle the final prices of the matter in place. Hazel slipped her hand into Frank's he fingers were very cold.

"You have to admit it is kind of beautiful." She smiled her eyes glittering along with the snow.

"Yeah, besides we've never had a winter like this before!" Frank exclaimed jumping on the excitement band wagon with Hazel. "We might as well enjoy it!"

With a mischievous look Hazel scooped up a fistful of snow and hurled it at an unsuspecting Frank. The pieces of snow stung sharply with cold but he couldn't keep from laughing. Bending over he scooped up a large clump of snow and returned fire. Hazel squealed ducking the hurtling ice bomb. Soon other campers had taken notice of the commotion. Frank scooped Hazel up and tossed her over his shoulder before slipping and landing in a snow pile. Hazel laughed curling up in a ball and clutched her stomach. Frank blushes profusely. Other campers had taken to throwing snowballs and soon an entire snow war had erupted. Hazel and Frank remained seated watching as their friends laughed and squealed chucking ice balls at each other. Hazel leaned forward pressing her frozen lips against Franks still blushing cheek. "I know it's under bad for instances but I'm excited to see the others."

Frank nodded at Hazel's words. "Yeah, it's been a while. I actually miss Leo's jokes."

"Really?" Hazel raised an eyebrow and Frank nodded earnestly declaring that he was being one hundred percent honest. Frank sat with Hazel for a long time the two of them enjoying the moment.

* * *

It was dinner time, Frank and Hazel were chatting excitedly with each other. A moment or two later Reyna appeared at their table seeming a little better than before, then again Reyna was known for hiding emotions. Unlike the previous dinner they spent together Reyna actually ate.

"Any news?" Hazel asked curiously. Reyna shook her head swallowing a bite of food.

"No, I was unable to contact them. I think the weather is interfering with the ability to Iris Message." Frank couldn't help but feel a twinge of disappointment. "However as I stated earlier I'll visit if I have to."

"Well, just be careful in this weather, I'm not sure if it's affecting the outside world as well." Frank warned. Reyna smiled rolling her eyes and taking another bite from her plate.

"Frank you do realize that you have quite the tendency to worry?" Reyna noted. Hazel giggled but tried to hide it.

"I don't do I?" Frank asked worriedly.

"Maybe a little." Hazel reassured him that it wasn't a big deal but Frank wasn't so sure.

"Wow, I forgot how packed this place was!" Frank jumped spinning around to see none other than Nico.

"Nico!" All three of them exclaimed in unison. Frank in surprise, Hazel in excitement, and Reyna in an endearing way, like she was used to his jump scares.

"Oh, sorry." He said awkwardly. "May I sit?"

"Of course!" Hazel exclaimed scooting over so Nico would have some space. As Nico sat down he placeed a quick kiss on the top of Hazel's head.

"So, what brings you here?" Frank asked having recovered from his shock. Nico's face morphed from mild amusement into a grim mask. He leaned forward on his elbows. Immediately Frank knew this wasn't good, it meant that low whispers would be involved.

"I've got bad news. As much as I like to visit this time I've specifically been asked to." Reyna's brow lowered creating a look of intense concentration. "Camp is having problems. The creek is frozen through, now the lake is. The ice is spreading like a wild fire. Percy and Leo are losing there minds trying to keep it at bay. The tension is only getting worse. I've been asked to check in and see how things are going here."

"Not good. We've had severe snow storms the past few days." Reyna sighed. Nico nodded solemnly. "Tension is rising here as well, it won't be long before a Senate meeting is held."

"That's not good." Nico grumbled.

"The weather has interfered with any means of communication with your camp. I was wondering if you and the others would like to join the Senate meeting. That way everything is out in the open. It could help discuss the speculations and rumors." Reyna offered. Nico tapped his chin contemplating the proposal.

"I'll see what they think, if we can leave camp alone for a day. Say, when is the meeting?" Nico asked glancing around the room. No one had realized what was going on.

"I'll inform everyone when you leave. It'll be held tomorrow if you get back to me. If not you can expect a visit soon." Nico nodded getting to his feet and rushing a quick good bye before anyone could notice him. In an instant he was gone having dissolved into shadow. Frank glanced at Reyna receiving an agreeing nod. Getting to his feet he cleared his throat. Immediately all conversation died in the room.

"Attention! Tomorrow a Senate meeting will be held! The time will be decided tomorrow morning! Be prepared for the meeting unless we have reason to postpone it. I'm sorry it's on such short notice but with recent events Reyna and I have de ided things need to be discussed!" A few grumbles echoed from the group but fro the most part people were in agreement or completely indifferent. With it settled Reyna smiled kindly at Frank and Hazel before turning and disappearing into the crowd. Frank studied the spot where Nico had dissapeared. He couldn't help but wonder what news the demigod would bring.
