My name is Hinako Tamashii, age eleven. I was living a pretty normal life, until the day I almost died.
She was a victim......of gravity. After her small body descended from the alleviated level she was at, the cool floorboards at the end of the stairs greeted her. Her forest green eyes paled, as she felt something pleasantly warm commence to pool behind her head. Her fingers and toes tingled, feeling the warmth slowly being deprived from her body.
She heard a gasping scream -a calling of her name- with two pairs of footsteps approaching her with great haste.
The last thing the eleven year old girl could recall was a her mother telling her it was going to be alright with hot tears forming in her ocean blue eyes and a maid hurriedly speaking into the phone.
She closed her eyes feeling her soul adift, memories flashing before her.
But there was something wrong about these memories.
They weren't her's.
°°°°
A variety of butterfly balloons all with same the printed shouted 'get better!' or something of the like decorated the hospital room with teddy-bears of similar shapes to match the floating objects that contained helium.
Her gaze lingered out of the window to witness a beautiful butterfly flapping it's wings, making circles in the air.
As quickly as an image of a brunette woman appeared before her, it vanished.
Hinako gripped the plush pink blanket sprinkled with red and orange butterflies that covered her body. "Hey mommy, what year is it?"
"Hmm?" Karin happily voiced, arranging flowers in a vase. "That question again Hina?" She softly chuckled then answered.
'I know the year, but... I just wanted to make sure.' Hinako thought then inquired, "why do I like butterflies?"
"Honestly, I don't know Hina. You had always liked them since you were a baby." The mother possessing wavy honey brown hair replied.
Hinako closed her eyes, 'it explains some of my likes, my dislikes , obsession with butterflies, and my fear, these memories of a woman named Sasaki Chouka from the Heian Period. My past life.'
"Hina!~ Daddy bought you a big present!~" The business man, Kenosuke Tamashii entered the room, placing a kiss on his wife's cheek before carrying the gift over to his daughter and doing the same with her.
Sitting upright, Hinako removed the lid off of the decorative box.
A single tear. It slowly trickled down her cheek from her left eye. Instinctively and gently running her hand a cross the smooth wooden surface, she felt her very soul ache.
It was a Goban.
Her previous self before the accident wouldn't had known what the wooden structure was.
But she did now.
Chouka. Herself in the past life had played Go. Not only that.... Chouka Sasaki, she had been a prodigy.
"What's wrong Hina!! Isn't this what you asked daddy to buy you!! I know it took me two days to get you it but it even came from the Heian Period like you asked!!" Kenosuke had always become flustered when his wife and daughter sobbed.
Karin softly smiled, looking down at her daughter. Placing a hand on her head, the mother said, "Hinako."
"Thank you daddy!" Hina gave her word of thanks.
"Anything for my little butterfly!" He gently embraced her, pulling away Kenosuke fished several books out of the red bag he had. "I even called a professional player on what beginner's books should best suit you. He won several titles. And of course if you, don't get the hang of it, daddy can hire you a teacher."
"Daddy, can we play, please?" Hinako cutely asked.
Immediately, Kenosuke took of his cellphone from his pocket. "Deputy CEO, I'll leave all of today's appointments to you."
Karin giggled, 'Ken, our daughter has you wrapped around her little finger.'
"So which colour do you want to play as, Hina?" Kenosuke queried, removing the Go's game set from the present box.
Being a CEO of several multinational businesses, it was not unusual that he had learned to play go to appease and entertain business partners and potential ones who played the game.
Feeling the urging of what colour she should chose, her pale pink lips parted and she spoke, "white."
°°°°
Kenosuke sat there bombshell, analyzing the black and white stones that laid upon the goban.
"What's wrong, honey?" Karin who had left when the two had started playing Go had just returned with lunch boxes she had prepared.
Kenosuke and Hinako Tamashii had played three games of Go.
For the first time, she didn't play like a beginner like she was suppose to, not requiring the usage of the Go books her father had purchased for her. She did pose as a thorn in Kenosuke's side, but eventually he had won with the experience he had gained through winning several amateur Go competitions.
Then the second time Hinako had rivaled her father, leading them into a draw.
Finally, the last game the young girl had claimed victory, utterly crushing her father, the evidence still left on the board, proof of her doing so.
Kenosuke knew, he knew everything what his daughter was taught under his strict guidelines, and Go hadn't been one of them.
Was his child some kind of prodigy?
"Hinako." He called.
Then the door of the hospital room slid open with a bang, a charm hitting the black haired father's face.
Karin sighed, holding the bridge of her nose. "Dad."
"Hello there my Karin, Hinako. Grandpapa just came to replace the protective charms in your room." The monk stated as he did so. "No evil spirits are going to touch my precious granddaughter." He mumbled.
Kenosuke's right eye twitched as he removed the paper from his face, crushing it. 'This old monk. He definitely did that on purpose.'
"Oi little rich boy, what do you think you're balling up! Did you know how much spiritual power I placed in that charm as I made it!" Genshin bellowed.
Karin sighed, 'these two never get along.'
"Sorry that I don't know anything about these old monk." Striking a basketball player pose, he threw compressed charm into the garbage bin.
"Ahh! Karin! Karin!" He jabbed his finger in the direction of his son-in-law, "divorce this man immediately!! You and Hinako come live with me at the shrine."
"What's up with you, you old monk, always trying to take my wife and daughter away from me?"
"Pssh! What do you mean wife and daughter, little rich boy? Karin is my daughter with Hinako being my grandchild!"
The usual banter between the business man and priest began once again.
Karin trotted over to her daughter holding the bentos in front of her. "Do you want to go outside to eat?"
Hinako nodded, following her mother out of the room, leaving the quarreling males who hadn't distinguished the females departure.
°°°°
With his praying coming to a close, Genshin took a seat at his granddaughter's bedside.
Ten minutes had traveled by since Karin had dragged her husband out of Hinako's hospital room, ordering him to go back to work.
"Grandpapa, do you believe in reincarnation?"
Genshin's blue eyes widened then they narrowed, a solemn air coating him. 'Hinako... she...'
