Chapter 15: Finding Rey
A/N: This chapter is written from some of the resistance members' point of view. And it was a sudden decision to add this chapter, and because of it I had to make some minor changes in the previous one, you'll see at the end of it. ^^
So maybe it isn't one of the best.

Finn kept pacing the dim-lit room up and down. It was so unlike him, but he couldn't stay in place when he knew Rey was somewhere out there, alone. He went to the window; he was more upset than he wanted to show.
His footsteps echoed off the walls as he stopped in front of the large vastness of green.
"Where are you, Rey?" his voice was filled with concern, that slowly gave in to panic and to quick heartbeats as he gazed at the greenery that reminded him of the girl.
They haven't been able to contact her ever since she had last talked to them, when she had said she was on her quest to the crystal Caverns. And they didn't even know where in the galaxy she was. There were lots of plavets with kiber crystals. And she didn't give a hint about the one she was on.
And she hadn't fooled Finn as she had fooled Poe. He had noticed her temptation to hide things when they have spoken. She didn't say anything except that she was on that quest. Had some stormtroopers been pursuing her? Was she already locked somewhere and couldn't have spoken more?
But all his fears didn't make sense. She had been in the falcon when they had talked, safe in the confines of the ship they only knew so well. Then why wasn't she answering? Why was she keeping things from them?
He grabbed a blaster from his desk, broke out in a loud groan and stormed out of the room, slamming the doors wide open against the walls.
As he bolted into the table quarters, Poe, Rose and Jannah's heads snapped to him as if thunder struck.
"I thought we got rid of Kylo Ren." Poe said, and couldn't hide the sarcasm in his voice.
He was sitting on the edge of one table, one leg bent and the other on the ground, arms crossed.
"Don't you understand?!" Finn almost growled, flailing his arom in the air. "We couldn't get in touch with Rey since then! And I called her three times at least!"
"Hey, calm down, buddy." Poe sat up straight and walked toward him.
But Finn stepped back, as if disgusted by his friend. "Don't tell me to calm down when my best friend is out there, alone!"
Rose came forward and touched Poe's elbow. "Finn's right. It's been some time since we've last heard from Rey."
"I don't know about you, but I'm going to look for her!" Finn said as he packed off, and thrust a finger in Poe's direction.
"Hey." Poe began, his voice even and guarded, yet firm. His eyes flickered from Finn to the blaster in his right hand. "So it's you and a blaster against the Final Order? See, this is why no one lets you make the plans."
"And it seems like I'm the only one who gives a damn about her."
"We're going." Poe said. "Together." then, as if finally realizing a danger, he spoke soflty. "Now drop it."
Finn shot him a glare. "Fine." he grumbled, and set the blaster aside on the nearest chair.
Eyes still on Poe, he felt someone tapping his elbow. He turned his head around to see Rose.
"Come, you need to eat."
"No... Rey..."
And somehow he could remember the old days, when it had only been him and Rose traveling to find that code breaker. When he kept rumbling about how he needed to get to Rey, and Rose would roll her eyes every time he said her name.
Now instead, the girl's dark eyes were filled with concern as she looked up at him, guiding him to the table.
She was not Rey. Yet he couldn't deny the way she looked at him. The way maybe Rey will never do.
"You haven't eaten for two days." Rose jerked him up from his thoughts, and he found himself sitting on the bench, a bowl of soup placed before him. It was true, he had last eaten two mornings ago, when he had last received the call from Rey.
The smell was inviting, and the strokes Rose gave the back of his head were soothing. Yet he couldn't help thinking about Rey. When was the last time she ate? Maybe she's somewhere trapped, starving... And I'm the one enjoying this food, while it should have been her.
And his mind was also clouded by many more concerns. When she had died on Exegol, he had been able to sense her death. But now she had lost her Force. And he couldn't sense her anymore. How could he know whether she was still alive? Whether they were looking for her or just for her shadow?
No, Rey couldn't be dead. She was strong and brave and intelligent... The greatest person Finn had ever known, his first friend. And he wanted to tell her so many things... First, he wanted to apologize properly for their awkward goodbye when she had left the base. He knew that he had kissed her all of a sudden, without preamble. Yet she hadn't enjoyed it, but rather that she didn't know how to flee faster. And he had been hurt... He had always expected it to be different. But she had looked at him as if he would have been a stranger.
And it was Poe who snapped him up from his thoughts and made him realize that his spoon was hanging in the air, three inches away from his mouth as he gazed somewhere in the void.
"Maybe she had messed up BB-8 and now she's afraid to see us." he rolled his eyes.
"And would you rather let her die for a fucking Droid!?" Poe's comment gave Finn back the anger that fueled their heated argument.
He shrugged and shook his head dismissively. "I never said that, my friend."
"Could you guys stop bickering?" Rose's patience was clearly wearing thin.
"Sure, I didn't start it." Poe rose his hands up above his head, as if in surrender.
"Well," Rose said as she slammed her hand against the table. "I'm going to prepare our new ship. Just check everything before we take off." and she turned to Finn one more time before she left. "And you finish that food. You're gonna need strength if you're to find Rey."
Finn took some more spoonfuls, yet when the room was cleared, he stormed off to his quarters as well, leaving the bowl only half emptied. He would do his best. He would go and find Rey, no matter how much it took.
When he was out in the clearing where the shop awaited for them, he met his other three travel comrades.
"Ready to go, pal?" Poe asked him as he joined the group. "Just a bit to make some announcements." and he turned to the crowd before telling Finn he had explained those people anything they needed to know about Rey's dissappearance.
"While both Finn and I will be away, I need someone else to take my place as General." and his eyes moved to a dark-blonde haired girl that stood in the front line. "Kaydel. I need you to watch over the Resistance's activity. And I trust you'll make a great leader."
She nodded her head in response.
"And I also need you to inform me regarding the news you get about the Final Order. And if there's some unwanted surprise coming from them..." and his face seemed to grow darker. "then tell me right away and, of course, flee as quickly as possible."
And Finn had to admid that there was much more order in Leia's time than it was now. But she was old, had a lot of experience. While they were young, just got their jobs a few weeks ago.
"Let us know when you find Rey." Kaydel said.
"Sure thing."
"Now go." yet her voice held concern. "But please, please be careful. Because we don't know what's out there yet. And an enemy that hides in the shadows is far worse than a great one we can see."
"We'll be." Poe smiled reassuringly.
Rose went on and hugged Kaydel. "We'll be right back." she said.
They climbed up the rampart and off they took, the few members of the resistance left behind becoming a smaller and smaller spot.
"Where to, now?" asked Finn from the co-pilot's seat.
"Know any planets with Kiber Crystals?" Poe returned the question to the three of them.
"There are too many." Jannah said. "It will take us a lifetime to search all of them.
But Rose seemed to have come to a conclusion. "Poe, BB-8!"
He tilted his head to her, not taking his eyes from the dark void ahead. "Yeah, what of him?"
She sighed in disbelief. "Don't you realize? He was with Rey! He was on the same planed with her!"
"Aah!"
"Finaly!"
"Yeah, I could locate my droid, I know." then, he turned to Finn. "Grab the holopad from my pocket. Now."
Finn reached down and fumbled through the many things his friend got there. And after a long search his hand clasped around a square surface.
"Now turn it on." said Poe, eyes still focused on the black surface ahead, spotted with stars and planets.
"I know what to do, Poe!"
"Yeah, sure." he rolled his eyes.
"Come on guys, there's no time to lose!" Rose snapped and snatched the holopad from Finn's hand.
She pressed it, and the image of a vastness of green with great rocks here and there came into view. A smile crossed her lips as she realized it was seen from a round socket and could hear the long beeps of BB-8.
"BB-8!" Poe almost yelled in amazement. "It's me, Poe. Your lifelong friend!"
A beep came from the droid in response.
"Where are you?" Finn asked.
Another beep, but it was shortly drowned by Finn's yell of triumph.
"On Lothal! She's on Lothal!"
Deftly, he inserted the coordinates, and the hologram of a map appeared in front of them, against the glass.
"Thanks." Poe mumbled as they headed into hyperspace.
In a matter of hours, they were soaring over a vastness of sand, here and there spotted with grass, exactly as BB-8 had said and shown them. In the distance could be seen the tops of some mountains and the green forests at their bases.
"The caves are up there somewhere." Rose pointed at the mountains behind as she walked to the window.
"But maybe she's left. Maybe she got lost in this desert." Poe countered.
"She's from Jakku, she would never get lost in a desert." Finn said, and a melancholy mingled with pride overwhelmed him. Melancholy, because of the memory of their first meeting, that avhing happiness he had felt when he had found a true friend, someone, who just like him, was looking for a home. And pride, because he knew those little details about Rey's life. It was like knowing her from somewhere in her childhood.
"But let's find the droid first. He must knew more about this planet than a any of us does." Jannah said.
"True."
And Poe made to land. The ship hit the ground swiftly, dust rising off in thin clouds around them.
When the shuttle rose up, Finn bolted outside. His heavy steps left tracks in the thin sheen of sand that covered the cracked earth, and he stopped a few feet away from the others as they walked behind him.
"Rey!" he yelled, and his breath became shallow and heavy, both from the heat and from the emotion that was tied in his stomach like a knot.
He had come here hoping he would meet eyes with her. And he was a fool. They knew where she was, but she could be anywhere on this planet. And whether she was still in the mountains, or in the desert, that, they couldn't know.
His eyes turned around to his friends, despair in them.
"We know where she is. Yet I never said it would be easy to find her." Poe voiced his thoughts.
Right when Finn was ready to yell her name again across the barren land, and to the forests and the mountains, Rose urged him to stop right away.
"Shh." She hissed sharply, and prickled her ears. "Listen."
Silence. There was nothing, except for the warm morning wind that sighed from the east.
But then he could make something in the distance. Something he knew well, a familiar sound.
He turned in that direction and put his hand above his eyes, to shield them from the burning sun, running toward the sound. But his steps were drowning it, so he had to stop again to hear something.
A low beep in the distance.
His mouth spread into a grin as he bolted down the hill.
"Finn!" Poe shouted after him.
"It's BB-8!" he threw over his shoulder.
And in the next moment, all of them seemed to have heard the faint beeps, for they ran after their friend.
Glimpsing the round Droid that rolled in the sand, Finn sprinted and fell down on his knees as soon as he reached it, wrapping his arms around the metal figure. BB-8 let out a contemptuous sound as Finn let his head fall heavy with relief against the droid's hard one.
"Thank you for finding us, thank you!" he whispered with closed eyes. But then, as the others reached him, he drew back.
"BB-8!" Poe said and threw himself down to hug his robot friend. "Thanks the Force you're alive!"
"Alive?!" Rose mused. "A Droid? Seriously?"
"Yes, alive." Poe snapped, annoyed.
But Finn was the one who remembered their mission. He was the one who would do anything to reach Rey.
"Tell me; do you know where she is? Please tell me you do."
BB-8 nodded an agreement and rolled in a circle before drawing to a halt in the middle of the four of them, raising even more clouds of dust in the air.
"Achoo!"
BB-8 must have known that Poe had a terrible allergy at dust. Yet he didn't seem to mind putting it straight in his face.
"Beebee-ate!" he groaned.
But the droid drew back a bit, untouched by his master's complaints. And an image that could barely be seen was projected against the bright blue sky through the small round eye.
And what Finn saw there made his heart catch in his throat.
"Please tell me this isn't true..." he whispered to no one and to everyone.
~Thanks for reading! ~
A/N: If you know how I could write BB-8 sounds, please tell me. ^^
If it was unclear, BB-8 had caught a glimpse of Rey sitting on the brim of the lake as the soldiers came to take her into their building to be tried. Then he ran off as he was seen and pursued. This was the little thing I changed. If you have already read ch 15 before I corrected it, check the part when Rey is sitting near the lake.
And again, something related to game of thrones, I like to compare Rey and Finn's relationships to that of Daenerys and Jorah Mormont. Like, both Finn and Jorah are great friends of the two girls, yet both of them got friendzoned, and like Dany, Rey chooses another one. And I made that reference that both Rey and Finn were looking for a home when they first met, while both Dany and Jorah's greatest wish was to go home.
