Voice
"Voice" is essentially the most important creative writing element, because it sets the groundwork for a relatable and credible story.
"Ok, JM, but I can't find "voice" on any main element's list."
Well, no one would.
For our purposes, I've renamed what is primarily categorized as "character" and "theme" and added in a few other components for good measure.
"But what is voice?"
Getting there, peeps. If you look up "voice" in the dictionary, it'll say something ridiculous like 'the sound based out of our voice box.'
In creative writing, "voice" is the expression of personality in your writing, which, in my opinion, includes characters, narrator, word choice, and theme. But there's more to a strong voice than choosing the right words and having a distinct narrator.
Some of you are pulling at your hair already.
Don't panic! I'm going to break it down. Starting with the obvious, characters.
