Chapter 32: We Don't Have a Choice
Nathan's POV:
I slowly opened my eyes. At first, all I saw was light. But as my sight adjusted I realized I was in a room with a huge chandelier above my head. Recalling what had happened before, I quickly lifted my head and breathed in heavily. For a second I thought I was dead. I looked around the gigantic room I was in. I saw that I was in a bed wearing a white robe with Eve sleeping next to me. There were many big and luxurious items, most you would only see in a castle or palace. There were two giant windows with curtains of silk leading out to a balcony. I got up and went to one of them. The sun was extremely bright causing me to have a hard time seeing where I was, but my sight soon adjusted again. I saw clouds, lots of them. There were also floating islands with buildings and statues on them. They looked like they were from Rome. One of the statues I noticed looked like Palutena. That's when I realized...
Me: "I'm in Palutena's temple."
???: "You sure are."
The voice startled me. I quickly turned around and saw Palutena standing in the window.
Me: "P-P Lady Palutena!" I bowed. "I-It's an Honor to meet you."
Palutena: "I appreciate your politeness but It's ok if you just call me Palutena."
Me: "Ok. H-How long have I been out? And what time is it?"
Palutena: "Not that long. It's only been about two hours since the sun rose." I was about to ask her where everyone else was but she interrupted me. "You know, what you did on the airship was dangerous. You're lucky to be alive."
Me: "You heard about that?" She nodded. "I know, but I had to get the stone back somehow. Wait, where is it anyways?"
Palutena: "Don't worry, Maia has it." She walked inside towards the bed. I followed. She put a hand on Eve who was just waking up. "You know, you've got a lot of gut for a kid."
Me: "It's called: Being brave. You can get far in life with it." Eve jumped off of the bed and came to me. I knelled down and petted her. I could see she was happy to see me.
Palutena: "True, but sometimes bravery can lead to defeat. You don't want to get carried away when you're in the middle of a battle."
Me: "I know." Just then, I heard the sound of metal clashing along with a grunt. "What was that?"
Palutena: "The others probably started a battle, as usual." I was about to speak but once again she interrupted me. "You can probably find Jacob and Maia down there watching them."
Me: "Thanks, I guess." She then started to leave the room. "Wait!" She stopped and looked at me. "Where are my clothes?"
Palutena: She pointed to a wardrobe. "They were wet so I got you a fresh pair. They're in there." And with that, she left.
I walked to the wardrobe and opened it up. There was a pair of white shoes, grey jeans, a white t-shirt, and a red hoodie with a picture of a burning Smash Ball on the back of it. The thought of wearing it made me smile. I put it on without hesitation. It fit perfectly.
Jacob's POV:
We all watched as Pit, Samus (zero suit), Roy, and Toon Link fought. It was just like watching a normal game of Super Smash Bros.
Maia: "Well look who finally decided to wake up."
I looked at Maia and then in the direction she was facing. I could see Nathan walking towards us with Eve by his side. I greeted him with a smile as I raised my hand.
Me: "Good to see you're awake, man."
Nathan: "I'm glad to see I'm alive. Do you have my bracelet?"
Maia pulled it out of her pocket and tossed it at Nathan.
Midna: "I've gotta say, I've never seen anyone as brave as you before."
Nathan: "I'm sure there are some people out there that are way braver than me."
Midna: "Are you kidding? No one would risk their lives like that the way you did."
Nathan: "Speaking of that, how did I survive?"
Me: "Spyro here saved you."
I moved revealing the Purple dragon everyone knows and loves as Spyro. Sparks was floating above his head. I could tell Nathan was surprised because he didn't say anything for a while.
Nathan: "S-Sp-Spyro? You're the one who saved me?"
Spyro: "I sure did."
Sparks: "You should have seen him. He swooped in and grabbed you just before you hit the ground."
Nathan: "Well then, I believe I owe you my thanks, Spyro."
Spyro: "Don't mention it. I'm just glad I could help."
We continued to chat until Pit, Samus, Roy, and Toon Link finished fighting. We then went into Palutena's Temple where Maia told us where we were gonna go. I was a bit surprised to hear where we were going.
Maia's POV:
Jacob: "We're going to Inkopolis?"
Me: "We've decided that the only way you're going to survive this world is if you get trained to be brawlers. That way you'll be able to defend yourselves in case danger ever comes around."
Nathan: "She has a point. They can't save our buts 24/7."
Jacob: "I know, it's just the thought of fighting such powerful foes..."
Nathan: "Jacob, don't worry. If one of us falls the other can just pick us back up." A short silence echoed through the room. It was soon interrupted by Eve who barked at Nathan. He seemed to understand what she said somehow. "If Eve wants to train up to protect us, then I'm with her. I don't see why they should have all the fun."
Jacob: "Hmm. Alright, I'll do it."
Me: "Then it's settled. Toon Link will take you to Inkopolis."
Nathan: "Wait, what about you."
Me: "I can't be your personal bodyguard forever. I've got more important things to do with my time. Plus, my arm cannon was destroyed with the airship so I have to get a new one."
Nathan: "Oh, right, sure."
So with all of that out of the way we got Nathan and Jacob ready for their trip to Inkopolis. We decided to let them take Jet and IV just in case something did happen along the way. When they were all ready they boarded the spirit train and were off on their way. I watched until the train was out of sight then told Midna to teleport us to Peach's Castle to talk to the council. On the way there, Maia started talking to me about Nathan.
Me: "So, what about him?"
Midna: "Well, not to say anything too dramatic but, do you like him?"
Me: "W-What? What are you saying?"
Midna: "Oh come on, you know what I'm talking about. There's got to be something about him that you like."
Me: "For your information, I don't have a crush on him. And, to further that, there's nothing about him that I like."
Midna: "How about how brave he was when he went up against Bowser Jr?"
I paused. True, he was brave but bravery could also lead to defeat. We soon arrived at the doorstep of Peach's Castle. I started to walk in.
Me: "Just because someone is brave doesn't mean I like them."
Midna: "What about Alex?"
I paused once more. I didn't know what to say or do.
Me: "Let's just drop the subject." She moved in front of me and patted my head.
Midna: "Don't worry, you can tell me your feelings some other time."
I was a little annoyed but I shrugged it off like it was nothing. We then entered the castle.
