Chapter 2

After the sorting had finished the Prefects walked the students to the dorms. The Slytherin Prefect was a boy named Marcus Flint. He was very interesting looking and as the daughter of two dentists, the first thing Hermione noticed about him was the fact that he had very crooked teeth. Marcus explained that the girls dormitories were on the right and the boys were on the left. Once she had settled into her bed two girls came up to speak with her.

A girl with long blonde hair introduced herself as Daphne Greengrass and a girl with a brown bob introduced herself as Tracy Davis. Hermione was confused as to why they were talking to her since she was a muggleborn. She had read that Slytherin did not usually accept wizards and witches of muggle parentage. She must have asked the question out loud because Tracy and Daphne answered her at the same time.

"Once you're in Slytherin you are considered one of us. We take very good care of our own in this house and you won't get bothered." "Besides" said Daphne, "The mere fact that you got into the house as a muggleborn is amazing enough for everyone to respect you." Hermione smiled at this and went to sleep feeling better about the prospect of being in a house full of snakes.

Hermione awoke the next morning feeling better about her circumstances then she had the previous night. Daphne and Tracy were waiting for her in the common room. "Are you ready to go down to the Great Hall to have breakfast?" Asked Daphne. "We wanted to wait for you so we could go down together as a group. We want to show Hogwarts that even Slytherins can be nice to their own." Said Tracy. Hermione was touched at this gesture of friendship and thinking back over her childhood, she believed these were the only true friends she had ever had.

Thankfully, the dungeons were close to the great hall and they got to breakfast quickly so that they could eat before going to their first class of the day. It was Transfiguration with the Gryffindors and Hermione expected it to be very interesting. The three girls finished their breakfast, grabbed their bags and headed off towards their first class of their time at Hogwarts.
