Writing Competition.
So as a few of you might know, we had a wee writing comp on Facebook, the prize being that you were able to design a character to go into the APK series!!
Unfortunatly, there weren't as many entries as I would have liked but me of ALL PEOPLE can understand that it's hard to put your work out there, and also to find the time to sit down and write something ;)
So for the three entries that were entered, I have decided to put them all up here for everyone to see! Thankyou so much for taking the time to write the book from your perspective! I loved reading these, it was so enjoyable, and I hope that all of you enjoy reading them as well, while you wait for the next chapter xx
Happy Reading,
Love Daisy

A retelling of the 1st Chapter in APK from Obsidians P.O.V
By Jenna Streety
A Stolen Heart
'This is the first chapter of A Pirate’s Kiss, titled ‘A Stolen Kiss’ from the eyes of Obsidian Bones.'
*
She had been fifteen when I’d came for her the first time.
As what was requested of us, we came by night and caused explosions throughout the sea-side town. Our ship's cannons threw their cannonballs through the insides of walls, buildings, and homes alike, regardless of who or what was in their way.
That was one thing that I enjoyed about weaponry. These killing machines that I had at my disposal were none-discriminate to those they hurt. No matter their age, race, gender, or background, they tore through people’s lives like Hellfire and destroyed with a passion I myself had been forced to hide for as many years as I’d been alive.
If I’d been in a cannon ball’s way, it wouldn’t have stopped to question if I was a decent human being. It wouldn’t have weighed the good and the bad I’d done. It wouldn’t have looked at where I had come from and decided to kill me more painfully than what they’d force a saint to endure. If humans and creatures that looked and acted similar to them were like cannon balls, I won’t have been judged as the son of a madman. I would have been judged as equally as anyone else.
If only they were like what tore through that town.
Really, people were just as destructive as any piece of weaponry I could equip to my ship. We only hid our nature under cheap smiles and humorous laughs. It was times like this that I was sometimes glad I wasn’t entirely human myself.
My boots slapped against roof top after roof top as the roofs around me exploded in deep reds and oranges, as fire encased the stone and wood alike. I could have stopped and joined the fighting down below like my more primal side urged for, but I had to keep the mission in mind.
‘Find Circe. Take her quickly. Make sure she doesn’t make a sound.’
Those thoughts swirled in my mind as I slung myself off the final roof and into an alleyway where I hit the ground harder than I expected. I winced and shook it off quickly only to find a blade to my neck.
Some villager had me at sword point.
I smirked at his stupidity as I pushed the sword back so the handle hit him square between the eyes and he went straight into the gutter like a tree falling in the forest. The sword was gripped tightly in my hand as I stabbed it into the stone wall of a large fence that encased the mansion that I had to get into.
‘If a man falls in an alleyway and no one is around to hear, does he make a sound?’
My own snicker filled the air around me as the sound of explosions boomed and screams of all sorts tried to smother my too happy of a sound. I scaled the wall, using the sword as a bit of leverage to help lift me farther up. When I reached the top of the wall, I looked to the highest peak of the home I’d be stealing this fifteen year old girl from.
‘Find Circe. Take her quickly.’ I reminded myself.
But there was no need to find her. I could already see her from the very top of the wall I perched on, my form cast in shadow against the harsh moon and even harsher bursts of fire and light. I hopped down and kept my eyes on her as I moved through the garden that was lit only by the moon. The flames and illuminated pain seemed miles away suddenly as I crept through the underbrush, avoiding guards as they ran past.
As my eyes racked over her and my feet quietly pressed on closer, I could begin to make out details through the night that had begun to close in around her so tightly, it seemed like her angelic form was being strangled by it.
She was truly a sight to behold. Her long blonde hair waved elegantly in the wind and her snow white dress hugged her tightly, as the wind blew it around her. I was certain my eyes had glazed over with her beauty – which, at the moment, was quite inconvenient.
‘Find Circe.’
I scaled the tower the same way I had with the stone wall that encased the garden. When I reached the balcony where she stood, I silently lowered myself into the darkest corner and kept watch as her bright blue eyes gazed out over the fires and listened to the screams of pain that echoed back, even louder with the stone walls bouncing the sound straight to her ears, that had tucked those gorgeous blonde locks out of her pale, flawless face.
Maybe it was the night’s bright moon and the twinkling stars that made her seem so beautiful, for surely no one could have looked like that in the harsh light of day. Had I gotten something in my eye? Perhaps I was only imagining her? Maybe I was dead?
Her angel like features suggested the latter option.
But, then, so suddenly it took me off guard, she whispered, “Pirates.”
That single word brought me back to my sick reality with a crashing and crushing force that caused me to lower my head so fast and so quickly that my large hat fell before my eyes. I tightened the fabric to my skull and long dark hair so I was sure it would stay in place.
I quickly, but silently, moved in front of the doorway to her bedroom so I was sure she had nowhere to run once I began to speak.
“Aye, M ’lady that we are.” I replied as if she had spoken to me, even though I knew she hadn’t – though I wished she had.
She, that angel like figure named Circe, nearly flung herself off the balcony when she had gasped, spun, and jumped backwards quickly and fiercely.
I attempted to destroy any form of smile from forming on my lips but a smirk still sprung loose. She seemed to be angered by that response as she pressed a hand to her chest.
Those bright blue eyes began to search my lips and jawline - the parts that she could make out through the cover of my hat - as if she could find the answers to the universe strung in my stumble.
“Like what you see, M ‘lady?” I questioned a bit cockily.
“Tell me what you want.” She demanded, causing me to roll my eyes.
She was pretty – more than pretty – but she wasn’t fun at all.
How disappointing.
“If you are here for jewels, they’re in the top drawer. You can have them, I have no want for such things and I’m sure my father will get me more.”
I laughed fully while she straightened and tried to hide her fear.
“It’s not a matter of what I want, more like whom.” I smiled wickedly. She might not have had a sense of humor but she was entertaining nevertheless.
There was a pause that hung in the air as she collected her thoughts.
“Are you a real pirate?”
What kind of question was that?
I told her I believed I was and asked her why she asked.
“Well, because you don’t look like one.”
As she spoke, I realized she was baiting me and I took it to my full advantage by walking forward when she had finished, until I was standing right before her, towering at my full height in the most intimidating of manners.
“Now, surely, you don’t mean that.” I murmured with a hinting tone as I played with those locks I’d been dying to touch since I’d first seen their light shade from my perch on the wall.
She pulled from my grasp and stepped back. “It doesn’t matter what I mean. What do you want?”
The lass was a stubborn one for sure.
“You can either tell me or take it, or I shall call the guards and have you hanged.” Her voice was hollow.
“Well, you see, I could just take what I want and go, but I’m worried that you might cause a bit of a fuss-“I trailed off, my voice suggestive enough for me not to need to finish my sentence.
The rest happened fast. One moment, I was telling her exactly what I wanted and the next, I was being kneed in my vital regions before she ended up pressed against her doorway with a knife to her throat. That last, confusing part wasn’t what I had planned but it had seemed to work just as well.
Suddenly, she was pleading with me as her bright eyes watered. Crying women – I couldn’t stand them. But, there was something about those tears that made me listen.
“Two years.” She had whimpered. “Please.”
I sighed in frustration before I grumbled deeply in my chest, “Two years.”
She tried to run but I caught her and brought her so close to me we were pressed together so tightly I wasn’t sure if either of us could breathe.
“Don’t think I will forget you, Love.” I smirked like the Devil’s son I really was. “But, in case you forget me, here’s something to remember me by.”
I’d crashed my lips to hers before she could protest. She had stilled perfectly before she melted slightly to me – her lips soft and sweet like the buds of some flower I could never obtain.
“I’ll steal the rest of you later.” I mumbled softly before giving her one last peck. I flung myself out of her room and off the side of the tower, catching myself on the sword I’d stuck into the stone so I wouldn’t hit the ground numerous feet below me.
As I ran back to the ship, I thought of what I’d just done. What had I originally come for again?
‘Circe.’ I reminded myself one last time.
For all of the confusion of the night, one thing was certain.
I had stolen a kiss.
But, she had stolen my heart.

A Scene from Sunken Treasures, starring Circe and Obsidian

The wind blew in their faces like tiny little kisses as they skirted around barrels and ropes, shushing each other.
Circe let out a little giggle at how foolish and young this felt. Sneaking out at night to go for a swim and be by themselves where no one could judge. It was silly; but it was thrilling. Their blood was pumping in their ears as they got to the side of the boat and started stripping out of their clothes. Well, Circe, anyway. Obsidian kept his breaches on.
Circe pushed Obsidian over the edge of the boat when he leaned over to watch the water. She slapped a hand over her mouth to stifle a loud laugh at his face. She would pay for that later. She took a deep breath of fresh air before jumping in after him.
Air bubbles erupted around her, as her legs began their natural tingle. She looked down and smiled softly at her tail, giving it a little flick before swimming up to the surface. Looking around, she found no sign of Obsidian and started to panic a little. It had been minutes since she pushed him over.
She gave a startled squeak as she felt arms wrap around her middle. He gave a chuckle before saying in his rich voice, "Shhh, love. We don't want to be caught."
Butterflies busted out of their cage inside her stomach, tickling it so much it made her feel slightly dizzy. His scent filled her lungs, and she breathed it in like it was her last breath.
"We won't be caught. Everyone sleeps like the dead. I really didn't expect the Air people to sleep like that."
He shifted as he put his palms against the boat, under her arms so he effortlessly kept her afloat. His eyes darkened a bit as he stayed there looking at her. She choked on a breath, she knew what that look meant.
Wanting to tease him, like he did to her, she slipped under the water and swam past him, gently brushing her hand against his upper thigh as she went.
She swam a little ways out before popping her head back above water. She looked up at the moon as she threaded her fingers through her hair. Who knew, that Circe would be out in the middle of the ocean at the middle of the night with none other than Obsidian Bones; a pirate. And completely in love with him, although he didn't know that part yet.
She turned to find him not far behind her, lazing out on his back and looking up at the night. She bit her lip as an idea formed in her head. Leaning far enough back the tip of her tail came out of the water, she flung it back down to make a wave of water splash up onto him. She couldn't stifle the laugh that came bubbling past her lips as he righted himself and started sputtering.
She did gulp the rest down, as he gave her a dark look before swimming after her quickly. She panicked, turning around to swim off but he had already got too close and gripped her hips, pulling her back against him.
"That was bad, love. That's two things you will pay for." He said with a hint of a laugh in his tone.
Next thing she knew he had dunked her under the water. Not as effective as she got him, but it was still payback nonetheless. She came back up and pushed her hair out of her face, her body vibrating from Obsidians quiet laughter.
She turned to stare at him, she had not seen him so care-free before. His eyes bright with slight wrinkles from the smile on his face. He looked younger, a little boyish even. Her heart swelled with even more love and she had to take a deep breath not to cry for the little boy that didn't get this playfulness.
She swam close, wrapping her arms around his neck as she nuzzled his jawline with her nose.
"Take me to bed. I need you..." She breathed.
She needed to love him the only way she knew he would allow. He may never find out she loved him, and that's fine with her. She will suck it up and take what she could. He gave no promises of forever and a happily ever after and she needed to accept that. Then why did her heart hurt this bad?
She pushed the thought away as they swam back to the boat, getting on it and drying off. He leaned against her bare back and whispered, his lips brushing the shell of her ear, "You have some incidents to pay for, darlin'."
And she payed, all that she had the rest of the night with light touches, deep kisses, and she thought she remembered some scratching.

”And don’t ya be comin’ back ’ere!”
The man came flying out through the door and landed hard on the wet ground. The wooden door slamming shut behind him.
“Thank you, Tim. You be sure I give ye that bonus later. Now run home, the rest I can fix meself.”
“Thank you then Ms Lacinda. And you should take a break from that husban’ o yours. You startin’ to sound more an’ more like ’im.”
She made to strike at the brown head with her hand before shooing him out the same way the other man had gone.
“Get going you big oaf! Before I forget that bonus of ‘urs.” But it was all in good nature, the smile on her face was genuine and full of affection.
As she closed and locked the door after Tim had walked out she turned to study the dim room.
It had been a long time since she had first come here as an orphan and one of the only two survivors of the attack on her fathers ship. Then she had been little more than a child, now she was a grown woman. The woman in charge of keeping ‘The Drunken Sailor’ afloat after Leo’s father had passed.
She smiled as she remembered meeting the others; Circe, Nathaniel, Cobalt even Obsidian. How they turned her world around! But now they were all grown up and all on their on paths, living their own lives.
She was here. Living with her children, and her husband when he decided to stay home from the sea.
‘Tomorrow.’ She thought blissfully.
“Come on everyone! Sam, Richie start getting the chairs up on the tables! Angie, where are ya, you little troublemaker?”
“’ere mommy!”
Out from the doorway leading to the kitchen comes a small brown haired little thing. In her arms are, one mop, bigger than herself and a little brush that she holds tight in her left hand.
“I brought ‘em so I could help.” She states determinately, her green eyes daring her mother to refuse.
“You want to help then do ya?” After a nod she continues. “A’right, start brushing by the door. We ain’t gonna have that much until after noon so, that should be ‘nough.”
Angie quickly gets working, glad to be allowed to stay up. She wouldn’t have been able to sleep anyway and this way she won’t get yelled at by her mum. Just as she runs off two identical figures become visible in the dim light.
“There you are! What have you been up to?” She stands and eyes her mischievous boys with narrowed eyes.
Knowing she won’t get more of an answer than the smirks on their faces she quickly sends them to work.
“Go on, get all the chairs up on them tables. We have to get done quickly, tomorrow’s a special day.”
Reminded of what is to happen the next day, the two boys quickly get to work lifting all the heavy chair up and out of the way for their mother mopping the floor.
She walks at a fast pace holding Angies hand tightly as the girl strains to run after her older brothers. All the while keeping a careful eye on them as they run ahead. Their blonde heads, shining like gold in the sunlight, were so much easier to keep track of than if she was to let go of Angelicas hand, and try to find her little spitfire, amongst all the brown of the street. Suddenly she notices that she only has eyes on one of the twins.
“Samuel, where is your brother?!”
Her boy stops and turns to look at her with the same sparkly blue eyes as their father’s.
“He’s right in front mum, he saw Bill and is running to ‘im!”
He doesn’t wait a second after uttering the words, before storming after his twin towards the dock, where the crew was just getting ashore.
“Come on, mommy! We’re a-going to miss ‘em!” The resilient six-year-old keeps pulling on her hand to get her to walk faster.
“Oh you think so?”
She scoops the little girl up in her arms and hitches her skirt as she starts running for the docks, not caring how it looks, secretly just as excited and nervous as the children to see if everyone made it back safe.
‘At least I know William is alright.’
“Yaay mommy! Run!” Angie shouts in joy, her green eyes glistening with excitement and a few locks of her brown hair flying in the wind.
A few of the men from the ship shout their greetings as she runs past, recognizing her from the bar or previous voyages. But only one of them stops her.
“Cobalt!”
“Hey there, little Lacy.” He says with his always so cheerful grin. “Don’t worry, I’m not gonna keep you. I will stop by the pub later. They are down by the left side of the dock. I’d hurry, seems the twins are making up for lost time.” With a mischievous in his eyes that reminds her very much for her own twins and laughter in his voice he sends her off.
“Be sure to come by tomorrow or tonight!” She shouts as she takes of towards the left, Angie still on her hip urging her on.
“There mommy! I can see ‘em!” She shouts even more excited and happy now having spotted the ones we have been waiting for, pointing straight ahead.
Sure enough as she follows the little finger she sees a smiling man standing with one twin around his neck, his blonde curly hair like her own windblown from the months at sea. The other twin is busy telling a story to the man standing with his back towards the two coming down the dock.
Their daughter doesn’t waste a second.
“Daddy!!” She screams as loud as any ship whistle and takes of running as though shot out of a canon from her mothers arms. The man turns to them and she finds herself transfixed.
Because the first thing his sparkly beautiful blue eyes seek out is not the six year old girl hurling herself towards him at an impossible speed.
No, what they first find are her own green eyes. As they stare at each other Angie reaches her father and throws herself around his legs. She briefly notices how he reaches down and pulls Angie up to hug her tightly to his chest.
“Leo.” The name no more than a breath of relief as she runs towards him the same way their daughter just had. He quickly puts Angie down by her brothers and catches her as he has done so many times before in his arms.
“Lace.” He sighs into her ear holding her tightly around the waist. Her own grip around his neck tightens as she feels tears burning behind her eyes and start running down her cheeks. Feeling the moisture on his wife’s cheek he pulls back slightly.
“Now Lacy, none of that.” He proceeds with gently wiping away the tears with his thumbs.
“Yes, lots of that. Because you’re finally home, both of you, so now kiss me so I can welcome my son back as well.”
He chuckles lightly.
“Yes ma’am.” And he does exactly as she had said, and for just a moment she forgets their four children watching.
Three of which stands pretty horrified by their parents display. For that short blissful moment it just the two of them, but not for anything would she ever want to be without them, their, her and Leo’s ragamuffins.
