Epilogue
I was nervous, no doubt about that. What if they didn't want me to be their idol any more? What if they hated me now?
"Rae, you're up," the stage manager yelped out before turning back to the stage.
I looked over to Joseph, looking for comfort before I felt a hand holding mine. I looked down and then to the body who it belonged to. Joseph smiled at me and I smiled back.
"You've got this, Rae."
I nodded and on to the stage we went. It was a surprise at how many people were there as I looked out into the audience. Hundreds of people came here to see me, not because I was going to perform, but because I was going to explain everything.
I waved at everyone, sat on the chair that was in the middle of the stage and took a deep breath. My hands began to move in all different directions when I heard Joseph translating for me.
"Hello, my beautiful fans. Thank you so much for coming out to see me today. I know that you guys have been through a lot lately but I want to tell you the truth about everything that has happened.
"As some of you may know, my manager, Richard Morrison, had been doing drugs for a while. As a result, it turned him into a violent person. He kidnapped me and my friend Grace. Along with an accomplice, he managed to sever my vocal chords. As some people know, my mother was the accomplice." There were gasps all around. "And now I can't sing or speak. My whole life, I have dedicated to my singing and my fans and now that that's gone, I only have one thing. My family. You guys are my family and I want to thank you for the support and love you have shown me. You truly are the best fans in the world."
I wiped away a tear and was on my way off the stage when I heard Joseph's voice again, "We aren't done yet, Raebae. There's something your fans want to do."
I looked at him in confusion before music hit my ears. It was the beginning of one of my songs.
Listen a little closer,
Hear our voices now
Take me in the wind,
And hold me in the mountain.
The thing that made me cry the most wasn't the lyrics, it was that every single person in the arena was singing it. Including Joseph.
His voice carried louder since he was using the mic, which made it funny, because in case you didn't know, Joseph can't sing to save his life.
I looked out at the crowd and clapped my hands together, listening to them. I looked in the front row and smiled as I saw Tanny, Roman, Raina, Reece, Rose and Ryder. Grace stood backstage clapping her hands off beat, but she was clapping..
This was all I want. Forever. To hear people sing my songs. To being together families and friends. Enemies and lovers.
Music is what shakes the soul down and makes it shiver. It tells your heart what to do when you can't figure it out.
Its why I love music so much. It's why I wanted to be a singer, so I could change someone's life.
But as I stood on this stage I realized, it wasn't me who was changing them, it was them who was changing me.
As the last chords of the song played, everyone in the arena lifted a sign that said 'We Love You Raegan!'
And then they yelled, "You are our idol forever!"
And my life was complete. I was changed by my fans. And they were changed by me.
