Alternate Epilogue
I let the cover fall away as the little monster took them away.
"Get up, mommy. It's time for my first day of school!" She wrapped her tiny arms around my shoulders and shook me. "Come on, daddy already made breakfast!"
I groaned silently as I placed a hand on her forehead. She giggled as I poked her nose.
"What are you doing, mommy?"
Looking for the snooze button, I signed still very much asleep.
"I'm a kid, mommy. Not a 'larm clock." She giggled and I felt as she grabbed my shoulders again. This time I turned over, pulling her with me.
Her giggles intensified as I tickled her tiny stomach and sighed in contentment.
I opened my eyes and saw her smiling up at me. I placed my fingers on her chest, my hand spelling out 'I love you'.
"I love you too, mommy. Now, let's go! Daddy made waffles."
I smiled and removed the blanket from my legs.
I'll beat you there, munchkin.
"Not if I beat you!"
Little Alayna ran out the door, me trailing behind her. I caught up the little demon and picked her up, kissing her cheek multiple times.
"Ew, mommy! Gross!"
I coukd hear the sounds of someone moving in the kitchen and pushed the door open with the hand that wasn't holding Alayna. Joseph stood there in a t-shirt and jeans, slaving over a hot waffle iron.
He glanced up and smiled at me. I gave him a quick kiss on his cheek, before stealing the plate in front of him.
"Hey, that's mine!"
You snooze you lose.
"Last time I checked, Rae," he said, pulling the plate away from me, "you were the one snoozing."
I stuck my tongue out at him and watched him smile that genuine smirk I have always loved. He leaned over and gave me a kiss before I heard a plate slide in my direction.
I looked up to see that Alayna had given me her plate.
Oh, honey. Eat your food, you need your energy for school today.
" But, mommy. If you don't eat, Manny won't get big and then he won't come out of you."
I silently laughed at the sweet five year old. Manny will be fine, honey. Daddy made me food, I was just messing with him.
Her face held shock. "Oh, ok."
Joseph laughed at his little girl before turning he stare upon my very big stomach. "You think he's almost ready to come out?"
Well if I had to look at your face, I would stay in as long as possible.
I winked at him and I could hear him chuckle.
I can't believe this is what my life became. A world with my family and me. A wonderful husband, a beautiful daughter, and an unborn son destined for great things. Life is good and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Including my voice.
