Chapter 29: Torturous
Warning: Gruesome scene ahead! You can skip the part when Seungeun said he wanted to torture the man.
.....
The two siblings and Seungeun separated their ways to go back to their own apartment. He decided to check up on Lanze, who was living next to him and hadn't make any sound since he moved in.
The whole floor of the apartment was bought on the first day Seungeun and Seyoon arrived in the neighbourhood, and afterwards, the other rooms were left unoccupied. I want to live somewhere quiet, Seungeun said at the time and Seyoon agreed, although his face look pained from the waste of money.
Seungeun knocked on the door twice and heard hurried footsteps coming to his direction immediately. The other side seemed to fumble the knob, seemingly unused to it before the door finally opened.
"Sire?" Lanze's red eyes lit up. "Do we have work to do?"
"No, there's none. I just want to see how you are doing."
Walking into the living room, Seungeun could see how empty it was, with no furnitures or a single carpet, except a bundle of clothes in one of the corner. There were still dusts collecting on the marble floors. It was too empty and he felt like he was missing out something.
Hearing no response from his sire, Lanze felt his cheeks burning hot as he moved to stand in front of him, trying to block the spot his sire was staring at. Because he lived in the slum, he didn't know how to live properly like a normal human- although he wasn't one to begin with.
Seungeun pressed his forehead as realisation settled in. "I should've known better."
He remembered that he got the key from the landlord and then briefly introduced each room to Lanze. This is the bedroom, sleep here. That's a bathroom for you to clean yourself and the kitchen is for you to cook anything you want to eat.
Lanze was a monster that never stepped foot into human's world so there could be some difference in terms of the way they lived.
"I'm sorry." Lanze bowed down his head pitifully.
"It's not your fault... I was the one who brought you here. Let's clean everything first."
And so, wearing an apron and cleaning gloves, the two boys scrubbed the floor, took out the trashes, wiped the counters...
Seungeun taught Lanze the function of the things inside the apartment. After that, he used his own phone to order furnitures and other things. He pointed at one picture and said to Lanze, the black box that showed screen was called a television and he either could entertain himself or watch the news in human world.
"What did you buy with the money?"
"I haven't used them, sire."
"Then what did you eat for the past few days?"
Lanze looked away with a red face, feeling too embarrassed to answer.
"How old are you, Lanze?"
"I'm around 200 years old..."
Seungeun raised his eyebrows in confusion. The gate was automatically summoned by the system and usually lasted for seven days before dungeon break occured, where the monsters could escape into the human world.
"So you've been living in the slums for 200 years?"
"No, I've only been living in the slums for few days. Before that... I lived in..." Lanze tried to search for his memories but only blankness came up.
"As expected." Seungeun muttered. 'Regardless of their background, all they know is to kill humans.' But he already removed the murderous intent from Lanze.
"You haven't walked out either right? Let's find something to eat."
The afternoon was spent by going out shopping the necessary things for a new tenant. Lanze calmly looked at the people walking passed them, a child bumped him accidentally and he only gave a blank face as a response. The bright and colourful lights in the mall made him furrowed his eyebrows throughout the time and now he looked like a bad-tempered person.
By his side, Seungeun pointed and explained one shop after another like a tour guide. He already said that Lanze could buy anything he wanted, but because Lanze didn't have much preference and was fine with almost everything, he let his sire chose for him.
They arrived in the luxury restaurant on the fourth floor and were greeted half-heartedly by the waiter, who openly looked at them from head to toe, trying to judge their wealth simply from the brands of their clothing. As if finding out that the customers he was going to serve wasn't rich in any way, the corner of his lips turned downward slightly. It went unnoticed by Lanze but his sire was oblivious as he continued to talk about the rating of the restaurant.
The waiter still escorted them politely.
"Sir, are you ready to order?"
"I heard that the French cuisine here are good. The restaurant even got a high praise by Gordon. So choose whatever you want, Lanze."
Lanze looked at the menu with foreign handwritings. He didn't understand a single thing.
Seungeun realised that he hadn't make a program for Lanze to understand human language and coughed lightly.
The waiter looked at the boy with black hair and displeased face, thinking that they were shocked by the price. 'These youngsters... why did they even come when they can't even afford it?'
"I'll take this." Seungeun chose few dishes without looking at the price.
The waiter took noted and then left.
"What's wrong, Lanze? If there's anything you need, you should tell me." He smiled brightly as he propped his elbows on the table and intertwined his fingers together
"I'm fine, sire." Lanze looked out at the window on his left, the blue sky was turning orange.
The human world was peaceful, they lived in harmony with each other, unlike the dungeon, where monsters immediately entered a blood bath once an argument broke out.
He turned back to stare at the person sitting across him. His sire was playing with his phone, maybe chatting with someone, as he had explained the other function earlier.
"Sire... do you have a name?"
"Of course I do. My name is Han Seungeun."
Lanze smiled slightly as he repeated the name inside his heart.
"But we have Korean honorifics here so..." he paused. "Never mind." Seungeun didn't want to call Lanze 'hyung'.
Soon the foods arrived on their table and they began eating comfortably. When they went to pay on the cashier, Seungeun pulled out a black credit card from his wallet and the waiter, who was serving them earlier, looked at it with bulging eyes.
'Kids with rich parents always have it easy.'
"Do you like the cuisine?"
"Mm, it tastes delicious, sire." Lanze looked at Seungeun with hopeful eyes. "Can we go there again?"
"Yep. You can go there or order takeout if you want. Just check their website. Here, let me teach you."
Lanze pursed his lips in displease as he listened attentively.
.....
Meanwhile, at the same night, the Korean Hunter Association's chairman, Go Guhee, an S-rank hunter, invited Jinwoo to join their association. Jinwoo didn't even think twice to reject him, mainly because of the recent case involving his 'younger brother'.
The next morning, Jinwoo joined Hunters guild's mining team to earn income while waiting for the re-evaluation result to come out.
Seungeun wasn't interested in that so he sent Lanze to supervise Jinwoo and spend the time by tidying his brother's belongings.
Seyoon's phone, which was left on the bed when they hastily left to run away from the S-rank hunter, vibrated. It was notifying the owner that it's battery was low. A woman's name also appeared on the notification bar, she was asking for the receiver to tell her his safety. Her messages were sent several days ago.
'Was he seeing out someone?' Seungeun straightened his lips as he turned off the phone and placed it on the mirrored desk.
He wore a black hoodie and adjusted a black cap to cover his hair. He opened up a portal and entered it. The surrounding changed from the simple bedroom to an unfamiliar living room of someone else's house.
A man on his late thirties was sitting on the sofa, watching the action movies on the high quality television. Hearing the soft footsteps, he turned his head to look and saw a baseball bat nearing his neck.
Crack.
"Ugh..."
The man fell to the floor, groaning in agony. The baseball bat was imbued with paralysing spell so the victim couldn't move.
"W... who are you? What are you doing in my house?!" Sensing that he couldn't move his body beside his neck, he gritted his teeth in anger, his face turning red. "What do you want from me?! Is it money!? I'll send it right now!"
A person wearing sneakers approached him calmly. The intruder squatted down, one hand holding a bat, an innocent smile was on his face.
"I don't need money. I have plenty of that."
The man's face twisted in anger as fear slowly crept in. There was a chance for him to get freed if the attacker only wanted money. "Then what is it? I'll give you whatever you want if you let me go."
"Do you remember the S-rank hunter that you worked with?" Seungeun drawled, as if he was genuinely curious about his own question. "How much money did he give you?"
"You..." The man glowered as realisation sank in. The intruder's face resembled the picture Hwang Dongsu showed him when he asked about his brother's killer. "You are the killer! Don't think that you can get away with this! The association won't let you go!"
Seungeun laughed lightly and innocently, his shoulders visibly trembling. "The association?"
"I won't tell you on them if you release me right now."
"I'm not stupid."
"Motherfucker! Do you really think that the chairman won't come after you if you kill his worker?!"
"He didn't do anything about my brother..."
"Don't compare you brother with me. He is such a worthless piece of shit." The man laughed maniacally, oblivious that the youth's face was turning darker. "Did he really think I would help someone who was chased by an S-rank hunter?! Only an idiot would do that! He was planning for the two of you to lay low before escaping to Japan." He laughed again, amused by the fool he had deceived. "You want to know the money Hwang Dongsu gave me huh? It's 2 million won! Your brother's life is only worth 2 million won! My car is more expensive than him- Aaaah!!"
Seungeun stepped on the man's head, provoked by his words.
"Hwang Dongsu is dead. Do you want to know who killed him? It was me."
"You're lying. Stop thinking that you can scare me bastard!"
"You wish. I have been pretending to be weak but..." He pressed down his foot harder and the man clenched his teeth. "Some people really like to court death."
"Fuck you." The man spat angrily. "You're just a weak D-rank hunter. You'll regret this."
"Shh... a dead man shouldn't talk." Seungeun's tone became lower and quieter. "Enough chit chat. Why don't we start now?"
"Start with what?"
It was his turn to smile malevolently.
The man felt chill crawling down his spine. Sungeun dragged him by his hair and forced him to sit on the wooden chair. He tied his limbs with a long rope he brought with him.
"Let's start with your feet."
He pulled out two black gloves and wore them and then pulled out a chainsaw from the system's inventory.
The man's eyes widened in horror. "Let me go!!!" His face contorted in fear as the rumbling chainsaw neared his ankle. "Help!!! Help me! Someone help me!"
"Scream for me."
"Aaaaaaahh!!!!!"
The red blood splattered on the carpet and the torturer's porcelain skin. Seungeun put the foot on the coffee table in front of the man, who was sweating and panting from the stimulation.
"Aaahhh!"
"You have so many energy to scream. Well, that's good. Hwang Dongsu didn't get to taste the pain because he died early." He looked at the foot solemnly. "Shall we continue?"
He turned on the chainsaw again, causing the man to flinch hard.
"I'm sorry... I'm sorry... Please let me go..."
"We're only getting started and you're already giving up. Didn't you say that you are better than my brother? He didn't even beg for mercy when Hwang Dongsu broke his arms and legs."
"No... please..." Tears were streaming down the man's cheeks as he shook his head. He could finally move but the rope was bounding him too tightly and couldn't get untied no matter how hard he struggled.
"We don't have time to rest."
"Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!"
Seungeun placed the other foot on the table.
"Look at your own feet."
The man wasn't listening as he chanted pleas of help with a despairing look on his face. Seeing that the man wasn't responding, Seungeun forced a health potion down the man's throat as the later to struggle to vomit it back. The man felt his energy returning back and his blood stopped flowing.
"Now your hands."
Scream of terror continued in the house but the bystander that passed it couldn't hear them and wouldn't have imagined that a torturous scene happening inside.
"Ah, don't worry about dying early. I have plenty of health potion here."
Seungeun smiled proudly at the masterpiece in front of him.
"Kill me." The man looked at him dead in the eyes, his rationality on the verge of collapsing. "Kill me already..."
"Come on now... We are barely starting. Aren't you enjoying it too? You were screaming so hard just now."
Seungeun didn't mind that he heard no response. He turned on the radio and a classical music played in the background. He pulled out another material from the system.
"This is hydrochloric acid." He held a bottle of colourless liquid in front of the man's eyes, and the man only felt his gut twisting uncomfortably. Seungeun poured it on the man's wounds and he shrieked so loud that he lost his voice. "Scream louder!"
A sadistic laugh escaped his lips, his eyes curving into crescent moon.
"There are still many things left here. Look at this boiling oil, tongue shredder, hammer... How do you think should I use this spiky baton?"
A wedge of the afternoon sunlight was coming through the window, and he could see a pool of blood and chunks of meat on the carpet.
The man on the chair didn't make any noise.
Seungeun removed the sound barrier and entered the portal to wash himself in his own apartment. He dried his hair while humming, seemingly in a good mood.
Someone knocked on the front door. "Sire, do you want to eat? I bought a take out."
Seungeun happily joined Lanze to eat dinner.
