Picnic in the Woods
-Jackie's POV-
"Christina! Where are we going?" I laughed, trying vainly to see through the solid blindfold as she tugged me along. "You'll see!" She trilled, squeezing my hand. Holding tight, I allowed her to lead me forward. "Almost there." She promised, not slowing down. I could feel soft grass tickling my ankles, and smell fresh air, so I assumed that we were going to a park. Too busy trying to investigate with my other senses, I didn't realize Christina had slowed to a stop, and ending up accidentally slamming into her! I tumbled down, landing on something soft-ish. "Oof!" I didn't move, for fear of hurting her further, and suddenly I felt hands un-tying the knot behind my head. When the blindfold slid off, I became aware that I was practically nose-to-nose with my girlfriend.
"Oh, Christina, I'm so sorry, I didn't realize you'd stopped--" She cut me off by pressing her lips to mine. I relaxed into the kiss, feeling her hands run through my hair as I laid my hand on her cheek. When we pulled away, she smiled teasingly, "You just never shut up, do you, Jackie?" I rolled my eyes and got to my feet, extending my hand to help her up. She took it, only to pull me down for another kiss. I laughed softly as I pulled her to her feet, gazing, mesmerized, into her clear green eyes. They sparkled with laughter and love, and I felt as if I was drowning in their depths.
"C'mon." She prompted gently, slipping her hand into mine. "The surprise is up here." I smiled and pecked her cheek. "You're the best." She giggled and tugged me forward. "I know." Was her cheeky answer, a grin curving her lips. I laughed and began to run, letting go of her hand. "Race ya!" I challenged. "You don't even know where we're going!" She called, and I slowed down a bit as her logic sunk in, waiting for her to catch up. "Lead the way!" I invited. She winked at me as she passed, and I grinned at the challenge. Speeding up, I raced after her darting figure as she wove through the trees. "Catch me if you can!" She called over her shoulder, with a teasing flick of her tail. I poured on more speed, enjoying the feeling of the wind whipping my clothes and hair back.
Soon I spotted a clearing, with a flicker of something red and white on the ground. But I had lost sight of Christina, and I slowed to a stop as I scanned the area for a sign of her. Suddenly I felt hands grab my shoulders, and Christina whispered from behind me, "Gotcha." I turned around to see her hanging upside-down on a branch by her sandy-colored tail, smirking at me. I rolled my eyes and grinned as she started swinging back and forth. "Of course I had to pick a monkey fauna." I teased, flicking her nose. She sniffed and turned up her nose, which looked so odd with her position that I couldn't help but start laughing. "Keep laughing, Kitten." She threatened, and pulled the large bow in my hair apart, revealing my chocolatey-brown cat ears.
She began to swing, forward and back, as I stuck out my tongue at her, enjoying the fresh breeze on my ears after having them covered for so long. The next time she swung forward, I leaned in and pecked her on the lips, smiling when she deepened the kiss. When we pulled away, she sighed and petted my ears gently. "Guess it's my fault for picking a cat fauna." She smiled when I purred, and held out her arms imploringly. "Piggyback ride?" I turned around, feeling her arms wind around my neck and her legs around my waist as she settled on my back. As I walked to the center of the clearing, where a picnic basket was sitting on a red and white checked blanket, Christina continued to pet my ears. I almost couldn't walk straight, it was so distracting, and when she gave them a little scratch I couldn't help the mewl that slipped through my lips.
She giggled and kissed my cheek, then slid off my back, dancing around me to plop down on the blanket. "Do you like it?" She asked, hope clear in her voice as she indicated the little clearing and the picnic. "Nope." I popped the 'p' as I sat down. I saw disappointment in her gaze as I pulled her into my lap. "I love it." I whispered in her ear, nuzzling her neck as her tail wrapped itself around my arm. She sighed in relief and flicked me on the nose. "Such a tricky meanie." "I know." I replied, quoting her response from earlier. She rolled her eyes and reached for the basket. It was just a little too far away, though, so she tightened her hold on my arm and leaned farther, managing to hook a finger under the handle.
"You know you could've just reached with your tail instead." I reminded her as she slid off my lap to sit next to me. She began to unpack the basket, laying the items out across the blanket.
