Prologue

James Sirius Potter was bored. His parents had gone out for a meal with some of their old school friends and most of his cousins had gone to their grandmother's house. James' dad had decided to have Teddy (Harry's godson) look after himself, Albus, Lily and Rose instead. James sighed and looked over to his girlfriend Astra Malfoy who was reading, her blonde hair shielding her face from him. James had thought that having his girlfriend over with her family would mean that he wouldn't be in this situation but here he was, sitting in his bedroom, an arm wrapped around her shoulders, bored out of his mind. James sighed once more and stood up.

"Where are you going?" Astra's sweet voice drifted up from over where she was sitting. James looked over to her, she hadn't looked up from her book but it made him smile slightly to know that she felt when he had left and acknowledged it.

"Just to the bathroom and to then get a snack. Do you want anything?" James answered walking back over to her.

"A muffin" Astra answered shortly. James nodded and kissed her cheek before setting off out of his Gryffindor themed bedroom and downstairs.

As he walked, he went past the living room where the rest of his family sat and he peeked in the room. Teddy was sitting in an armchair on his phone (a muggle device that Harry had got him for his previous birthday) texting, probably his girlfriend James thought. Teddy, Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks son, was twenty-two and had left Hogwarts with top grades and the title of head boy. Currently, he was dating James' cousin Victoire and was training to be an auror like his godfather.

Albus and Scorpius were sitting cross-legged in the middle of the room with a wizard chess board in between them. By the looks of things, Scorpius was winning which was no shock since Albus was hopeless at chess. The two had been best friends since they met on the train in their first year, the friendship had only strengthened when they were both sorted into the same house. Rose Weasley was sitting near them playing with Lily, they were playing a game of exploding snap. Rose was Ron's daughter and the same age as Scorpius and Albus. Every so often, Scorpius and Rose's gazes would meet and they would both flush before turning quickly back to what they were doing, only to meet gazes again after a couple of seconds. It was probably why Lily was winning the game.

James carried on walking to the bathroom and soon came out a couple of minutes later, wandering down to the kitchen. He had just started to walk back up to his bedroom, muffin in hand as well as two glasses of pumpkin juice and a chocolate frog when he saw it. His dad's office was open, just a crack but open nonetheless and it was never open. Due to the fact that Harry was head of the auror's office and often had to bring home dangerous artefacts for further inspection he often kept his office locked up tight both the muggle and the wizard way making it almost impossible for James to ever get in. And here was the perfect opportunity. His dad wasn't home to yell at him for snooping, Teddy was too engrossed in texting Victoire and everyone else was downstairs except Astra who was engrossed in her book. It was perfect, nothing could go wrong!

Quickly, he ran up to his bedroom and placed the glasses and food on his desk, handing the muffin to Astra who took it absentmindedly and then raced back to his dad's office. Cautiously, James took his wand from his back pocket and held it loosely in his hand before opening the office door wider and walking in. Around twenty minutes later, James had found the Marauders Map in his dad's desk drawer and quickly took it; a lot of boring paperwork which his dad hadn't done and a strange shard of a mirror but nothing else of interest to the prankster. And once again, James found himself bored... That was until he caught a glimpse of a gold chain. James was fast to walk closer to it and pull it out for closer inspection. The chain was long and held a strange pendant with an hourglass at the end and two weird circles around it. Finding it cool, James put it around his neck and began to fiddle with it as he walked back downstairs to ask Teddy what it was. James was a curious child much like his father and when he was curious he went to someone who he thought would know the answer to his inquiry.

James had just spun the pendant's circles for the hundredth time when he made it to the living room and walked in. Astra had now vacated into the living room and was eating her muffin while watching the wizard's chess match with rapt attention, occasionally she pointed out a move that Albus could make which the boy did grateful for the help. His girlfriend looked up when she saw him walk into the room and a small smile lit up her face which James returned. James walked straight up to Teddy when he spotted the older male who still hadn't moved off the armchair he was sitting in and texting Victoire.

"Teddy..." James started, still spinning the circles around on the hourglass "what is this?"

Teddy looked up at James' questions and his eyes grew wide "where did you get that?" he asked quickly, his hair turning white in alarm.

"Does it matter? Can you just tell me what it is?" was Teddy's reply. At Teddy's alarm, the other children had walked over to the scene, Rose gaping in shock at the artefact around James' neck and Astra looked a bit surprised while the others looked confused.

"That's a time turner, James give it to Teddy you shouldn't have one," Rose said.

"But it's even cooler now!" James whined.

"James maybe you should give it to Teddy" Astra agreed, moving to take it off her boyfriend.

"But Star it's cool and imagine the number of pranks we could get away with!" James grinned at the prospect and didn't notice until it was too late that Teddy had snatched the time turner from around his neck "hey give it back!"

"No James this is dangerous," Teddy said moving to walk away but James grabbed the chain and pulled the artefact back. It soared through the air before landing with a smash onto the living room floor. Gold smoke filled the air.

"Well look what you've done now James!" Lily shouted, coughing as the gold smoke made its way over to the group.

It was quick and before they could react, the gold smoke had enveloped them and pushed them closer to the broken time turner until they were spinning quickly. They landed with a thump onto a hard surface and looked around them.

"JAMES SIRIUS POTTER WHAT HAVE YOU DONE NOW?!"
