Chapter 59

It had been a few days since Ezra, Fawn, Kanan and Ahsoka had been to the Jedi Temple on Lothal. After talking to rebel command about the trip to Malacore, the crew had settled for a while. The Ghost was resting on the outskirts of Gerral. Ahsoka had left for a mission a few hours before.
Ezra and Fawn sat side by side outside the Ghost, mediating with their dragons beside them.

"Fawn?" Ezra asked.

"Yeah?"

"Why did you send those fourteen dragons to Malacore in the first place?"

Fawn sighed and opened her eyes.

"It was to collect knowledge about the Sith. Legend says the Dark Side is strong there. I sent the dragons there to see if the rumours were true. Those fourteen dragons were my strongest and most powerful ones I had."

Fawn exhaled.

"The three that returned were all scarred and mentally affected. They're still not the same. They told me they'd seen their friends had been taken by something or someone. But I refused to let any dragon go to search for the eleven of them. I didn't want to lose anyone else."

Ezra absent mindedly rested a hand on Whiplash's back, eyelids rising. He opened his mouth to ask a question but closed it.

"Yes?" Fawn inquired, lifting an eyebrow.

Ezra realised she'd seen him about to speak and he hesitated before replying.

"S-Since we're going to Malacore, I can assume we're taking the dragons?" He asked.

"Yes. Why?" Fawn said.

"What are we gonna do if they end up like the dragons you'd sent there?"

Fawn also rested a hand on her dragon's back. Hurricane purred softly and looked over at his rider.

"I prefer not to think about it" she admitted.

"But I know that no matter what happens to any of us, we'll go through it together. Bridgers Pact, remember?"

Ezra smiled slightly and nodded. A few months ago, the two siblings had made a pact while star gazing.

Ezra and Fawn sat on top of the Ghost, gazing up at the stars.

"Fawn" Ezra said.

"Yeah?"

"Remember when we faced down the Inquisitors a few weeks ago and you almost died?"

"I do recall."

"What if you did? I don't know what I'd do without you. I was there. I should've protected you."

"Hey, it wasn't your fault. I know if you could've done something, you would've. The Fifth Brother had you occupied. Besides, I survived didn't I?"

"Yeah, but still..."

"Ezra, you've gotta trust that I can take care of myself. I've looked after myself this long haven't I?"

Ezra looked at his sister, eyes concerned.

"Hey, lose the worried expression you sad sock. Protection and care are two things that we need to have between us at all times. If you're losing your faith in me, there must be something seriously wrong with you" Fawn said with a slight chuckle.

"We should make a pact" Ezra said.

"A pact? About what?"

"A pact that we'll take care of one another as well as watch each others backs. We could call it; 'The Bridgers Pact'. What do you think?"

"I think it's perfect" Fawn smiled holding up her left arm.

Ezra connected his right forearm to Fawn's and grinned.

"So we agree?" He asked.

"Yup" Fawn slung an arm around her brother's shoulders and pulled him into a side hug.

"I'm glad to have a sister like you" Ezra exhaled.

"I'm really fortunate to have a brother like you" Fawn smiled.

"Fawn!"

The Gray Jedi and her brother looked round to see Sabine standing on the ramp of the Ghost.

"What's up Sabine?" Fawn called.

"We just got an urgent transmission from Kabera, you need to hear it" the Mandalorin said.

Sharing a glance, the two Bridger siblings stood and followed the girl into the Ghost. They entered the common room where everyone everyone else was waiting.

"Good timing" Hera said, pressing the button on the Dejark table.

An image of Lux appeared in the hologram. His face was full of terror while fires roared from behind him.

"This is Lux to Ghost. Kabera is under attack! There's too many Imperials! We need reinforcements! Please! We need help! Our dragons are being overwhelmed with...!"

The hologram went into static before disappearing. Fawn stared at the table, eyes wide and quite still. The dragons all seemed equally shocked, Hurricane was trembling slightly.

"Kabera was attacked?" Fawn whispered shakily.

Ezra looked over at Whiplash who was taking short breaths.

"Hurricane" Fawn said.

"Get my saddle, I'm grabbing my gear."

The two were off almost instantly. Fawn ran down the corrider while Hurricane sped to the storage cupboards where the saddles were kept. Ezra quickly stood up and went after his sister. He followed Fawn to her cabin where she searched frantically.

"Fawn listen to me, I've been in your position before. Wanting to go to your home planet when something happens. When I had a vision of mum and dad in Imperial prison, I wanted to leave for Lothal straight away. But I needed a plan, thing is, Kabera could be in an Imperial blockade right now" Ezra said.

"The Empire wouldn't do that, that's not their style" Fawn said as she opened compartments and checked her closet.

"Fawn, what you're planning is crazy. You heard Lux, the dragons are being overwhelmed by something. If we go to attack, the Empire might be there with the weapon they're using against the dragons."

"I don't care, Kabera is my home and I need to get back to it. Argh!" Fawn yelled in frustration punching the wall.

"Where are my kriffing lightsabers?"

"I know you want to go back to Kabera" Hera said, walking into the cabin.

"But that dosen't mean you have to go alone."

Hera tossed Fawn her two green lightsabers which the Gray Jedi caught swiftly. She looked at them before lifting her gaze to everyone else who'd joined her.

"We're going together, Kabera is just as important to us as it is to you" Hera told the girl.

Fawn smiled at them then saw Hurricane standing beside the other dragons, saddle in his teeth.

"Let's go then" she said.

"Kabera needs our help."
